Casa Rio Sierpe is located on the northern edge of the Osa Peninsula along the banks of the Sierpe River, approximately 35* minutes by boat from the quaint town of Sierpe, which is considered the gate way to Osa. Casa Rio Sierpe is located among 2,500 acres of private reserve & adjoins the Térraba-Sierpe National Wetlands in the Osa Peninsula. This area is one of the most remote, most spectacular & wildest regions in the country home to 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity and dubbed by National Geographic as “the most biologically intense place on earth”. The house is located in the heart of true primary and secondary rain forest, a plethora of wild life is to be found many of which are endangered or threatened. There are breathtaking post card views from the house and direct ocean access where you will find extremely private, pristine beaches all only 15* min away by boat , we truly have it all!
Are you looking to discover the magic of Costa Rica's rain forests, wildlife and pristine beaches? Are you planning your honey moon or looking to rekindle your romance? Are you an avid fisherman? Our newly built, 2,200 ft2 home is the perfect combination of modern and rustic styles blending Pacific Rim architecture. This gives the home an elegant sophistication that is very unique and certainly very Costarican. Carefully nestled in the rain forest atop a high ridge line * at 300 feet above sea level gives an almost 180 degree view of the surrounding rain forest, the Diquis river valley and three distinct mountain ranges in the distance. The climate is fresh with a mix of cool Pacific mountain and ocean air that circulates throughout the house and grounds. The yearly daily average temperature at the house is 85 deg & the evenings are normally a pleasant 69-73 making it perfect for sleeping!
Given the remote location of the home, we are 100% off the gird and solely relying on solar energy as the sole provider of our power. Having said that, we have made every effort to assure that our guest will be as comfortable as possible making sure that you never feel as though you are roughing it! We rely on 9 large ceiling fans and the design and the location of the house to keep our guest cool. All rooms in this luxury home are fully screened allowing sun light and cool breezes to fill the interior but keeping the unwanted guest out. The amenities of the home include two bedrooms with two attached full bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, inside dining room, living room with queen size futon and 800 ft2 of covered deck. The first bedroom features a queen size bed, large armoire and a 180 degree view of the rain forest, surrounding tropical landscape and river valley below. The second bedroom features a king size bed, bathroom and private balcony overlooking the valley. The large kitchen is fully equipped with top of the line appliances including a side by side refrigerator/freezer, 6 burner gas stove with oven, reverse osmosis purified water and of course a blender! Also, don’t worry about doing those dishes, you’re on vacation, our staff will take care of those as well! All of this is sure to sooth any culinary indulgence that a guest may have! The living room opens directly onto the 680 ft2, covered back terrace complete with ceiling fans, double hammock, lounge & rocking chairs, Weber BBQ and a large dining room table. This is the perfect spot for your daily relaxation, enjoying breathtaking views & meeting many of our local neighbors as well. Almost on any given day expect to see resident Scarlet macaws, parrots, Toucans, noisy parakeets, hummingbirds, squirrels, Howler monkeys, white face Capuchin monkeys, frogs, butterflies and at night Kinkajous. And if you are very fortunate you may even see the endangered Spider monkey, Ant eaters, Tayras, Sloths, wild cat's, Peccary pigs and the White nosed Coatis.
Not only is Casa Rio Sierpe’s location poised for optimal wildlife observation it is also a perfect home base for a variety of activities from land to sea that are sure to keep even the most active vacationer busy. Most of these tours are given at no additional charge to our guest with their paid rental. When you come and visit us, included is a full time guide and housekeeper whose sole job is to make your vacation the most memorable, stress free, work free as possible any way that they can. They will give you private guided tours, carry your grocery bags, take you river fishing, clean the house, find fresh fruit, do your dishes and even get you a fresh coconut to drink at the beach. We have over 10 miles of hiking trails along with several kayaking trails that our resident onsite guide will personally guide you on, day or night, along the way pointing out hard to see wildlife that you would normally miss and introducing you to interesting flora and fauna. If you would like to go on a night tour, no problem, if you want to go to a rain forest waterfall, no problem, how about getting you some wild cilantro from the forest for that fresh Ceviche you’re going to make, they can do that to. Would you like to explore the Sierpe River and her tributaries by Kayak? Kayaks are on site for our guests to use at any time. And lastly, how can a vacation along one of the world’s most beautiful river’s be truly memorable without being able to experience the natural beauty and wonders of that river without having access to a boat? Included in your rental fee we will provide you with unlimited use of a 20’ boat for use on the river and a captain to drive it, you’re only responsible for the gas that you use! Simply sit back, relax let the captain do the driving and embark on a one of countless river adventures from a lazy sunset float with cocktail in hand to bird watching and of course river fishing. How does fresh snapper sound for dinner? Also have I mentioned that we have one of the most amazing, private and secluded beaches in the area and only a 15 min boat ride away? So how about a barefoot adventure on a pristine secluded beach?

Fabulous house & views, very well looked after by Rubén and Adrianna. Well worth the hill to it.
We stayed here for 4 nights. We enjoyed every minute. We did a trip to Cano Island and were well looked after by guide Ceasar and Steve, lucky enough to see humpbacks and babies, lots of dolphins, a sea turtle and a beach alive with hermit crabs and some great snorkelling. We enjoyed the horse trip into the forest, attempted some fishing and kayaked in the mangroves in the rain, which was great. There is a bit of a hill to climb to get to the house but it is well worth it for the views and the spectacular stream of monkeys birds and butterfly's going by. Highly recommended if you love nature.

Fantastic!
I had the pleasure of meeting Mark and Lisley and although I didn't stay at their beautiful house, as I was staying locally, I was very lucky to enjoy their hospitality over the festive period. I went on the boat trips and the horse riding treks with my partner and 15 year old daughter which were unforgettable. Their warmth, generosity and commitment to making sure their guests receive the best possible experience was inspirational.

A magical remote jungle stay
If you are looking for a genuine Costa Rica experience, this is it! The house is perched in the jungle, with screens for walls, so the sounds of the jungle surround you at night, yet keep out unwanted creatures. Howler monkeys and toucans hang out in the trees right off the deck, that is comfortably equipped with rocking chairs, a sofa sectional, and huge table that we ate at every night. There are surprisingly very few mosquitoes, testimony to the rare opportunity to spend a few days in a balanced ecosystem. Adventures in the boat with Ruben are so special, our favorites were looking for animals in the mangroves, visiting fruit island, and swims at the beach just down the river. We have 3 school age kids, and this is our second trip to Costa Rica, and our instinct was to over-program with a trip to Corcovada. However, exploring the river and surrounding area were truly more rewarding. Dolly cooked for us every night, delicious and authentic meals, just like all the reviews say. What I didn't realize is that Simone, an English speaking tour guide based out of Sierpe, also helps with logistics. Our travel plans leaving Sierpe were completely derailed with a broken ferry dock and bridge, and she quickly helped us find a new solution to our next destination. Our only negative is personal- we didn't think through what living off the grid means, but within a day we adjusted, and were totally rewarded with a trip that we will never forget.

Rainforest adventure
The home was centrally located on Rio Sierpe. We saw or heard monkeys nearly every day. Its a beautiful tree house high on a ridge. The master bedroom with master bath on the second level with a great view. The main level was an open floor plan with 4 sliding doors to the back deck where we had dinner and relaxed each evening. There is no AC but plenty of ceilings fans. There is a second bedroom on the main floor as well as a 2-3 additional sleeper couches in the living room. A second full bath on the main floor. The kitchen is well stocked. What made it even more special was meeting the people who helped make your stay even better- Ruben and his family, Dolly, and Simone

Five-star adventure!
I'm honestly having a bit of trouble putting the magic of Casa Rio Sierpe into words. The home itself is beautifully-designed and comfortable, and it's tucked into a gorgeous, remote setting. I loved sitting on the expansive deck with my binoculars watching toucans and other tropical birds fly from tree to tree. There is no AC in this home, but the ceiling fans allowed us to sleep comfortably and the screens let in the symphony of sounds that come from the surrounding jungle. The walk up the driveway is quite a hike in itself (so don't ignore Mark's caution about needing to be in decent physical shape to stay here), but the exertion is worth it! The house itself, however, is only a small fraction of the magic that comes with booking this property. Mark was a friendly and fast communicator. Rayna, the travel planner who works with this property, helped us book transportation and tours in advance of our stay. Simone, the nearby English-speaking concierge, was available to help us plan each day of our to our fullest. Ruben, the on-site guide, took us on many wonderful adventures (visiting the fruit farm and kayaking in the mangroves were favorites). Adriana made sure the house was sparkling each day and helped us with our laundry. Last but not least, we paid for Dolly's dinners each day, and they were an absolutely delicious way to wrap up each day of adventure. While the Casa itself is incredible, it's the people involved with this trip that really made this trip magical!

I was born and raised on the west Coast of Florida surrounded by water sports. 'Boat' was my first word (did not make my mom happy)...At the age of 10 we moved to a horse farm in Kentucky where we raised and trained saddle-bred horses. I briefly attended college and then served my country in the United States Marine Corp. I have always had a passion for the outdoors adventure and a love for all wild life, even the really mean ones! I am an avid sailor, hiker, surfer and fisherman. I have had many passions and loves in my life including our two cats but my greatest passion and love is my Cuban American wife. We have been married for almost 10 years! My wife was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. She attended college there and a little over 11 years ago she won a visa to move to the United States. She then moved to Long Beach, California where we met. Like myself, she shares a passion for traveling, outdoor activities, water sports & wild life. She is a good dancer and cook and she's a bit crazy when it comes to collecting sea shells, sand dollars and pretty rocks, she can never have enough! She also enjoys sharing her knowledge with others, specially kids. Her dream is to one day move to Costa Rica and teach English to the kids and adults at the local rural school. We currently live in California on our sailboat. I'm a Yacht Broker and my wife is an executive assistant to the CEO of a large company. We started building this home in 2011 and its been a long challenging build with many ups and downs but if it was easy then everyone would do it!

Why they chose this property

My wife and I had plans to sail around the world on our sailboat for 4 years in 2008 but the slow down in the economy changed our plans. We both knew that we wanted a dream home outside of the USA but we weren't sure where. We met another sailor and bought a piece of property from him in Guanacaste, we bought sight unseen in a country that we had never been to, you have to have a little faith sometimes in your fellow man. We fell in love with Costa Rica and we loved Guanacaste enough that we built a small home. But we soon realized that Gunacaste was lacking for us, it was beautiful but not magical enough to build our forever dream home and there were not enough animals either!!!! We wanted to experience the true remoteness and wilderness of the Costa Rican rain forest the way it all used to be in all of her splendor. At the same time we wanted to be close to modern convenience and fellow people. So we wanted to be secluded in the purest form of nature but not isolated and we wanted to be close to the ocean as well. We soon realized that what we were looking for may no longer exist, it was going to be a difficult search. We found this little piece of paradise by accident, one trip down the river, one look at the view of the rain forest and the mountains, one experience with endangered Spider monkeys swinging over head (I still think the seller trained those monkeys somehow) and we were hooked! And our story continues...

What makes this property unique

We are located on the Rio Sierpe among 2500 acres of rain forest reserve in the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica. Casa Rio Sierpe specializes in catering to only one set of guest at a time ensuring intimacy while providing resort amenities all in the comfort of a luxury home. Also included in your visit is a private guide and boat who will take you on many of the included adventure tours.
