About this property

Charming village house with terrace close to Canal du Midi and beaches

Don't just think of France, think of the warm & friendly South !

Pouzols-Minervois in the Aude region is a friendly & pretty village, accessible to the Mediterranean but not so close as to suffer excessive summer tourism. This is a working village, famous for its wonderful wines (the various Domaines and the Cave Cooperative), its fine olives, and rural honey. Real France.

With so much unfenced agriculture, the countryside is extensively available to pedestrians and bikers, on all sides of the village one walks immediately into the rural scenery. Close by is the long distance pathway the Grand Randonnée 77 which links into the vast labyrinth of major paths which criss-cross France, and even head into Santiago de Compostela.

This village and its castle was destroyed in the Cathar conflict of 1210 (apart from the ancient church) and then rebuilt on an adjacent & protective hilltop, incorporating old stone from the original village. It is in the circulade style so much used in the 100 Years War, narrow winding streets, and the D-grade road linking Béziers to Carcassonne passes nearby but not through the village.

Ryanair offer flights into Carcassonne, Béziers, Perpignan, Montpellier and Gerona (the Spanish border is 90 minutes away) and Flybe provide services too, as do Easy Jet (including Gatwick). This gives scope for incoming flights from a whole multitude of UK well as TGV to narbonne

Narbonne is the nearest major town, and is interesting. It was the capital of Roman Gaul, and also the first place outside Italy where the Romans grew grapes. Through its very centre runs the old Via Domitia, linking Rome to this region
Maison de Grandmere is a delightfully converted village house in Pouzols, village where the clock chimes are all that disturb the peace. It is surrounded by vineyards and some lovely walks and yet the Med and other attractions are not too far away. The house will sleep 6: 1 double bedroom (that also has a small child's bed) and a double mezzanine bedroom .The living room also has a day bed that converts into a double bed.
You enter the house from the narrow village street into the living dining room with the kitchen at the end. There is an open working fireplace, with logs provided in the winter. There is a large sofa, dining table, and chairs. The kitchen is well equipped witha 4 ring stove , dishwasher fridge, and microwave with convection oven
The village is close to Lac Joaures at Homps where all watersports and swimming and restaurants can be found

Ryanair route Bristol -Beziers: Maison de Grandmere is about 30 minutes from Beziers -Vias airport making it a convenient place to stay at any time of the year but is very good value for a short break.

This is the land of the Cathars and ancient castles, the region is steeped in history. The area is covered in vineyards and is a beautiful area for walking and sightseeing. The Canal du Midi is only 5 mins away. The small roads are excellent with remarkably little traffic. There is also good fishing in the rivers nearby especially at Bize. The lake at Homps [10 mins away] has sailing and swimming very good Cave selling excellent local wine .The area has numerous canal side Bistros and restaurants .There is an excellent bar / shop around the corner from the house which also has tables and chairs in the local square .Numerous vans call to sell fruit vegetables and meat and the supermarket is10 minutes away. The whole area has markets every day of the week selling fresh local produce.

Charming Village House - Perfect Description
We have just spent twelve days in this delightful home from home property, full of charm and character. There is so much attention to detail in the property and all the amenities you could possibly want. Pouzols Minervois itself is also a charming village, it is very quite and perfect to come back to after a busy day exploring the surrounding area, a car is necessary. There are many beautiful villages in close proximity all take around ten minutes by car, Homps, Bize Minervois, Le Somail, and Olonzac to name a few. Slightly further afield you have Minerve, a medieval village set above a gorge, a must to visit, and not forgetting the cities of Narbonne and Carcassonne. If you are looking for a beach Grussian, Narbonne Plage, and Leucate are all under an hours drive. Pouzols Minervois is in a beautiful area of France, which is full of vineyards and plenty of Cave-Co-operatives where you can simply the local wine and the weather is glorious. We cannot recommend the area and this Charming Village House enough and will definitely be back.

Very sweet little house on three floors with everything you need for a comfy stay
Unfortunately the WiFi packed up and we did need that for the next two weeks of our stay. So we had to find somewhere else for the next two weeks. Bernie gave us our money back immediately.

Fortnight in Pouzols
We had a really lovely stay in this property. It was really well equipped. Having a dish washer and washing machine. The decor was really lovely a total credit to the owner. It was incredibly hot in the mid 30’s. We probably wouldn’t visit June or July again. Would definitely return to the house in a cooler month.

Lovely village retreat
Just returned from a very relaxing week in this property. Beautiful French village. Very quiet, yet very close to so many great places to visit. The Canal du Midi is very near with lots of villages, places to eat and lots of lovely walks. We particularly enjoyed sitting by the canal and lake at Homps, very relaxing. As well as the canal the coast is not far away. We visited Gruissan which has lovely beaches and small marina with plenty of great restaurants to eat at. Narbonne is close by with its historic centre and canal too. We spent a day at Carcassone, another delightful place to visit. We also visited Abbaye De Fontfroide which is near Narbone. The house is well equipped and very clean. Downstairs is very cool which was great to return to in the heat of the week we were there. The sun terrace on the roof was very pleasant in the evenings. We ate up here most nights enjoying watching the swallows ducking and diving around the rooftops of the village. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of a large town, yet there is loads to do near by. Certainly will return for another visit.

A Fantastic Holiday, A Fantastic House!
After being on holiday in the South of France for 10+ years, I can safely say that this House is one of the best places that I have ever stayed at! The entire Village that the property is situated is really makes you feel like being in the Medieval Times again! It is great that there is a Post Office, Town Hall and a Bread Shop right on your doorstep. I highly recommend a visit along the Canal Du Midi, a trip to the Medieval Town Carcassone and a half an hour drive to the stunning, blue-flagged Beaches. Many people think that the South Of France is all about Beaches but in the hills, there are many fascinating activities and destinations nearby, such as Bize Minevois, the Pond Du Gard Bridge, Pezenas , Beziers, canoeing down the Herault and Pony Trekking. We visited all of these places and we can say that we thoroughly enjoyed the amazing experiences and the fantastic fun we had as a family! The inside of the house made us feel really at home, we loved the decorations/furnishings and the UK Satellite TV! This House has been the most spacious and enjoyable living accommodations for our family of 4 Holiday's in a very long! Overall, I would LOVE to recommend this house for Quiet Couples and Active families as the Village gives you a sense of pure relaxation/comfort but there is also fun and exciting Holiday activities very nearby.
