Montpellier experience
Quite a unique rustic style property with the feeling of being in the French countryside whilst in the middle of a large city. Well equipped with a lot of thoughtful touches (e.g some very useful mosquito repellent!) . Very nice gardens and pool although it was a little late in the year for us to try it out. Very friendly and helpful host.

Crowded, noisy and mean.
We were sold a break which would be “away from it all” & “romantic”, probably sharing the property only with Benedicte & her husband. Instead we arrived to find a permanent sitting tenant. B’s daughter, her husband, their 2 toddlers. A son & someone else. At other times, other house guests too. It emerged that the family would be with us for almost all the 3 weeks we stayed. Seldom did they leave the premises. The family is charming. But as a result of the crowding, we seldom got any peace. From children running around above our heads, or playing just outside our sitting room window with an adult, or coming into our room, or making us feel discouraged from using the pool, or running around the little garden outside our bedroom. Instead of relaxing, we would wonder when the next distraction would happen. The “private garden” is in fact not so. It was used frequently as a path to the tool shed & wine store. The lovely children, & charming but smelly swimming dog, can’t be blamed for their curiosity, & it’s human nature for adults to peep in through the net curtains to check if we’re in, as they pass. But again, this means there is no privacy, even to change out of your clothes in the bedroom area. There were other interruptions. The water failed 3 times. The third time for most of the day - despite being promised that they would stop supplying us with water from the well, which was drying up. The sand in the well water stopped the toilet from working & washing machine. We were amazed that B wanted to save money on using mains water, when we had paid her so much to stay with her for 3 weeks - a real stretch for us, meant to be a big treat. Another interruption was the electrical work. We were left to clean up the masonry dust after it. Why not leave? In a word: hope. And knowing that it would have been almost impossible & expensive to find an alternative at peak season. If we’d wanted to stay in a busy hotel, we would have. We paid over 5 months before - if at any time we’d been told “my family's coming” we would have happily cancelled our booking. The main criticism we have is that B misled us, in 3 conversations, into believing that she was sorry, and would compensate us a little. We’re journalists of 45 years experience, and we don’t make up things like that. B seemed genuinely sympathetic about our unhappy experience. We realise that this was just an act. B said she was sad, but wasn’t, please take anything she might now say with caution.

Lovely!
The location is exactly as described. Montpellier is a fast developing city and this is a beautiful oasis on the outside edges. Benedicte and Bernard are a charming couple who made us feel very welcome and there was nothing we could have wished for that was not provided for us. We had hired a car which we used for day trips to Carcassonne, Aigues-Mortes (my favourite) Arles, La Grande Motte etc...but the tram links into Montpellier old town are superb and cheap and we used this several times. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance but a vast selection in the old town too. It is altogether a fantastic location to go just about anywhere in the region. The nearest beach, Palavas les Flots was just 15 minutes by car and very well worth while visiting with it's beautiful lengthy sandy beaches but be prepared for laying on the sand as sunbeds are 15 Euros per person per day.... we soon adjusted! A fantastic choice for us as a couple, we could not have wanted more and our hosts were just lovely. Anka the dog was a close companion at the apartment too...ps she likes sausages!!

Delightful
I would recommend anyone to stay here, the owners are very friendly and helpful and the accommodation was lovely. The pool was huge, but the weather wan't too good in April so we did't venture in! Lots of good restaurants within a few minutes walk all set around a large lake complete with swans, ducks and beavers. Must mention Ancka, their lovely dog who kept us company. We will certainly go back.

It's like being in the countryside, with Montpellier on the doorstep.
We had a wonderful time at Benedicte's studio. It was just as described in the listing. An excellent studio apartment for us - suitable for one or two adults. The studio is part of the single house on the property but provides privacy and direct access to the exterior. Benedicte, the host and owner, was extremely helpful to us ........ on arrival, during our stay and at departure. In fact, she could not have been more helpful. The apartment was clean, well furnished, well appointed with cooking accessories and with basic staples provided. A dedicated WIFI router serves the studio. There is a an extensive selection of bars and restaurants within 12 minutes walking distance in the development of Port Marianne. We particularly enjoyed Trinque Foucasse, La Factory and Mia (Michelin one *) at Port Marianne. In Montpellier we can recommend La Diligence. Across the bridge over the Vez river (same area as the restaurants) there is convenient shopping - Carrefour, Monoprix and an artisan bakery We used the efficient tram system. Three lines were within 10 minutes walk providing the ability to be in the apartment without a vehicle. Two of the tram lines serve the downtown, with the other one routing to the sea (we did not take this journey so recommend researching the transit system). We took many day trips during our stay. Port du Gard and Nimes, Uzes, Saint Remy de Provence and Les Baux de Provence, Arles, Carcassonne and AIgues Mortes. At Arles visit the museum with the Roman collection ....... and check on whether the Van Gogh Foundation is open (closed for refurbishment during our visit). At Les Baux we recommend the multi-media presentation in the underground limestone quarry - outstanding (http://www.lesbauxdeprovence.com/fr). We also recommend researching market days before you stay; and look up the listings of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Access to the toll roads was easy and the journey times were generally just around an hour each way - with Carcassonne a little more. We thoroughly recommend Benedicte's apartment and would encourage any potential visitors to commit early!
