Quaint cottage in central location for everything the Peaks have to offer

Please note our changeover days are Friday and Tuesday with a minimum 3 night stay, meaning your booking can start or end on those days.

Originally owned by the Duke of Devonshire, Hope Cottage is set in the peaceful, delightful village of Great Longstone at the heart of the Peak District National Park. This 18th century corner cottage features a cosy mix of beams, wooden floors, planked latch doors and original stone fireplaces. Well modernised and tastefully restored, it offers the perfect haven for relaxation after a day of walking, activities or sight seeing.

Bakewell, with its bustling cattle market, beautiful shops, local produce and world renowned Bakewell puddings is within 3 miles, as is the Chatsworth Estate with its famous stately home, gardens, restaurants and shops. The picturesque Monsal Dale is approximately 1 mile from the village.

Activities in the area include walking, mountain biking, golf, fishing, gliding, horse riding and many more. The village boasts several pubs serving excellent food within walking distance, making the cottage a perfect holiday retreat or romantic bolthole.

Please note that this is strictly a non-smoking property. In order to ensure the comfort and enjoyment for all of our guests, smoking is not permitted anywhere within the cottage. Unfortunately, due to previous problems caused by excessive smoking, we now must enforce this rule by retaining the damage deposit where there is evidence of indoor smoking due to the extended cleaning time required to air and refresh the property in time for our next guests.

The property was perfect in every aspect. Location, character, presentation, practicality. We arrived in the village to be greeted by a covering of snow and the village Christmas tree illuminated in the foreground...you couldn't have planned it better ! The property was perfect and we used it as a base for our walking holiday until man flu took its toll and we spent more time inside the property than initially planned but nevertheless we still loved our stay. The online pictures do the property justice, but the little things that you cant see ( quality bedding and comfortable bed, power shower, bath, instant heat from the electric fire etc etc) add to the experience. Highly recommended

Excellent location

The cottage was lovely and well equipped. It was very homely and situated in an ideal location. There were two pubs within walking distance- The White Lion (excellent for food-very pleasant) - 100 m away and another pub - The Crispin - 150 m away.

It was about a mile away from the Monsal Trail which was a brilliant walk or cycle route and Bakewell was a beautiful town a ten minute drive.

Also close were lots of National Trust walks. A perfect place to explore the Peak District. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful cottage cost and warm and also a great location for cyclng and walking .

We had a lovely stay here at hope cottage.The cottage was clean cosy and very well equiped.

The surrounding area is beautiful and we would definatley recommend the great longstone walk and the monsil trail.

The village has a local shop which is useful for bread milk cheese and lots more.We walked to the the local farm and also bought local eggs and mince.

The pubs are in walkimg distance and serve food and allow muddy boots and muddy dogs which we took advantage of !!

We would love to return to hope cottage and also think our family that live in chesterfield are keen to also!

The owners left us a beautiful card and bottle of bucks fiz which was very sweet.

Peaceful, cozy, great location

A quirky, beautiful stone cottage, just a few minutes walk from the Monsal Trail, this has been the perfect base for a peaceful long weekend away. Spotlessly clean and with everything you’d expect to have in stock, we’ve loved our time here. There are two great pubs in the village and the Packhorse in Little Longstone is well worth the extra few minutes walk, too. Highly recommended.
