About Patricia

David is a retired Dental Surgeon who teaches at the University Dental Hospital. Patricia is a Professor in the Sociology of Education. We have three grown-up children and have recently been delighted with the arrival of three young grandchildren. The family has lived in the same large old house that we renovated since 1983 situated in a country village that nestles beneath the beautiful Cotswold hills between Bristol and Gloucester about 100 miles to the West of London. We are keen gardeners and have brought the love of gardening that we developed in Gloucestershire to our home in Menorca which is named after Patricia's Mother who enabled us to buy it and would have loved it.

Patricia purchased this villa in 1996

Why Patricia chose Mahón

Our family first came to Menorca when we rented a holiday villa in the S'Albufera Natural Park. Little did we know that we would fall in love with an island that had so much to offer and a location that is truly unique. The Natural Park, formerly farm land, has been allowed to revert to a wild state in which all kinds of trees and wild-flowers grow in profusion, providing homes for a range of wild-life including tortoises and nightingales as well as birds of prey. The large lake that forms the centre-piece of the Park is home to a host of sea birds and migratory species who stop off in Menorca on their way from Africa to Northern Europe. Only a few houses have been built within the Park so that within this very special setting we found a villa that offered total seclusion and peace - a real 'get away from it all' yet one from which you can see for miles in every direction. Each year that goes by we get to love more and more our scenic coastal walks on the Cami de Cavalls that circles the island, the huge variety of safe sandy beaches and the endless attractions of the historic city of Mahon which offers a range of thriving shops, markets and restaurants, it's narrow winding streets with their whitewashed houses and wrought-iron balconies provide a vivid reminder of the island's chequered colonial past. And as we discovered the 'real' Menorca, we look forward each year to the annual fiestas from July to Septmber when every village has its particular celebration and jaleo of 'dancing' horses.

What makes this villa unique

As you approach Casa Margarita along its secluded drive, you can tell you are coming to somewhere special. Ahead of you are views of the whitewashed cottages of the little fishing village of Es Grau, of the waves casting spray over the rocks and a yacht or two anchored in the tranquil waters of the bay; to right and left, olive and pistachio bushes, pine trees and wild fennel stretch in all directions until you reach the bougainvillea-clad frontage of the villa with the its swimming pool welcoming you invitingly. As you collapse into the comfy chairs of the shady terrace, you begin to tune into the sounds of silence - the songs of birds in the neighbouring trees and the wind whispering through the bushes. Climb the stairs to the roof terrace to see across the island to its highest point, Monte Toro and a stunning view of the lake, only a short walk away. Around the villa the garden abounds with flowering oleander, lantana and geraniums which you can enjoy as you stroll around or lounge on one of the shady terraces.

Only a few minutes drive away, the safe sandy beach of Es Grau awaits you with its beach-side cafes and restaurant and pedals, canoes and catamarans for hire. A short walk over the cliff brings you to a series of further, almost deserted sandy beaches for family picnics, snorkelling or a welcome siesta.

Excellent villa, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

It was a brilliant week, thank you Patricia.

Only minor annoyance was not receiving the directions to the premises until the last minute, after various frenzied efforts to make contact!

Exceptional location, wonderful villa with fantastic pool and amazing views of the surrounding area

  • 5 of 5

Wow, where to start with this gem of a villa! Firstly all communications with Patricia have been great, from initial booking and answering questions on the villa / area before we arrived. We are a family of 4 and wanted a very chilled out relaxing week and we certainly had that from the moment we arrived. If you're looking for similar, look no further than this property. The pool is a great size and the grounds / gardens are a credit to the owners. There's several different terraces / eating areas to chose from so we had tapas with a different view each night. The BBQ terrace has the best view of any BBQ I've ever seen and you won't find better! We spent every night watching the sunsets from there over the nature park towards Mount Toro. The bedrooms are all a good size and the kitchen is very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. We met the tortoise a few times in the garden and there were plenty of lizards to watch during our stay. Although we hired a car (which you'd need for the supermarket shop etc) we just didn't want to leave this wonderful home so stayed put all week and had plenty of fun in the pool. The most relaxed holiday we've ever had and in the most amazing location. If you're looking for the perfect villa in a great, secluded location, this is the one. We'll definitely be returning!

We enjoyed an wonderfull vacation with our daughters and their boyfriends in your beautiful house and on this quiet and beautiful Island. The whole day and night we heared the singing of an Nightingale ( so we said to each other: a day-and Nightingale) We love birds and we saw a lot of them. We used your fire-place for a BBQ. During sunset with a magnificent view.

We can recommand your place to those you love quietness and beauty.

Fabulous villa

  • 4 of 5

We were let down at the last minute with accommodation and luckily for us this villa was available. The owners were very helpful and answered any questions we had. We were delighted with this villa. The housekeeper cleaned to a very high standard. The outside area was stunning and our children loved the pool. I would recommend this villa and would love to return in the future.

Casa Margerita amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

After being let down at the last minute we found Casa Margerita just outside Es Grau in the Natural Park Area . It has breath taking panaramic views from the roof top terrace. An idealic location to spend a wonderful time with my family and my grandaughter just has to say thankyou as she learnt to dive in the fabulous pool. We would like to return it was so lovely and just felt like home, many thanks to the housekeeper who at the last moment lent us a cot for my grandson. The villa is beautiful and we would highly recommend it.

The villa is situated in a teh S'Albufera Natural Park which has an interesting Visitor Centre. The Park covers a large area and is very rural with just a few houses. There is a large lake that attracts many different bird species especially during migrations.
