We spent one week here over the Easter Holidays. Two families with children. The house was clean, spacious and works well with children. Its a shame there are not more photos of the upstairs layout and the upstairs bedrooms as they really are very beautiful, really modern, very clean and huge. Lots of outdoor space, front and back with a tree swing. It was unfortunate for us the weather was so bad as we couldnt really utilise the space but with good weather it would be lovely to sit out. Lots of food in the cupboards and the owners very kindly left us wine and easter eggs which was very thoughtful. Great wifi throughout the house, large TV and corner sofa and chairs to fit a lot of people! Dining area and a separate dining space in the kitchen which was handy if the children were eating seperatley or just for more space. Heating, wood fire, etc. One of the bedrooms is downstairs and the other 3 upstairs. The house is in the edge of the village, approx 3 mins walk to village to many shops, bakery etc. Playground just outside down the road is very safe and handy. Would also be perfect for pet owners as its all totally enclosed so no worry about dogs etc running out. It was approx 45 mins drive to Calais and 30 mins drive to nice beaches, etc. A great base for a trip to France!

We are coming back!

  • 5 of 5

A lovely spot in a friendly French town. Lot's on the doorstep, Le Touquet, Azincourt (Agincourt), and the lovely market town of Hesdin just down the road. The countryside in this part of France is just beautiful and surrounding Fruges are plenty of walks in the Seven Valleys.

The house suited us down to the ground, fantastic garden for our Golden Retriever Max who absolutely loved it. Inside it was very cosy on some very cold nights, the wood burner was lit every night. The central heating worked well and just in case there are electric heater back ups!

We were working whilst here and the internet is very important. We got 8Mbs download which was fine and we could stream TV as well. The connection was very reliable and we had no problem whilst we were here.

The Kitchen is a good size with good oven.microwave, coffee machine etc.Plenty of pots and pans and cutlery, only downside was no dishwasher, which was not a problem. There was not anything that we needed that we could not find.

Whilst staying the Fridge/Freezer broke, within 24 hours Pete was on site with a brand new one. :) It's good to know that someone is there if things don't go to plan and are put right quickly.

Pete is a lovely guy and we really recommend this property particularly if you have a pet.

We are back in April 2018 :)

Lovely character property, warm, personalised welcome from the owner.

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was spacious and homely. Excellent sized bedrooms. The downstairs bedroom did lack storage facilities such as wardrobe, chest of drawers or dressing table etc.

The wood burner was fantastic and we enjoyed our evenings, toasty warm in the open plan lounge diner.

Downstairs showerroom was a good size but watch your head! I'm over 6ft and lost count of how many times I hit my head on the light fitting in the entrance way! Upstairs showerroom well fitted in but tricky if you're very tall.

Decent sized kitchen, but limited worktop space. Dishwasher would be real bonus. Not always easy to do, I'm a plumber, I know!!

We loved the house, it had a very 'lived in' and homely feel to it and the owner was more than helpful and left plenty of information on the town and it's facilities. The pizza restaurant on the one-way loop out was superb (free 'old school' games machine!!).

Rue des Digues very quiet road but it was Xmas week.

Owner's Response: Dear Ian, Thank you for you kind review and feed back. I did purchase a wardrobe for the downstairs bedroom which was due to be delivered in time. Alas that was not to be. I am working on a dishwasher, As you mentioned it’s awkward but not impossible. I might have to put up a warning sigh for you tall people. Rue Des Digues is always quiet as the main rd the other side of the school takes the traffic, only local traffic uses my rd, Regards Pete

Great holiday home

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house and a bonus for us it was pet friendly.

It felt very homely and comfortable. The house has all you need for a holiday.

Everywhere was clean and tidy.

The town is good with a supermarket and a bakers in walking distance.

Dog - and people - Friendly Property

  • 5 of 5

Willow Tree House is a great place to stay on several counts: (1) It is comfortable (cosy-comfy, rather than chilly-chic), easy to clean, has everything one needs; (2) the garden is totally dog-proof with plenty of lawned areas, space to run and play, as well as secure off-street parking; (3) Fruges (small town/large village) has more than enough for day-to-day needs, including butcher, bakers, chemists, cafes, bars (some English newspapers), restaurants, weekly market, supermarkets, vets, ATMs, Post Office etc; (4) it is on the doorstep of several historically interesting sites eg Azincourt is three miles north, and the main Western Front is under an hour's easy drive.

My husband and I spent a week there with our two dogs, and would happily have spent far longer. Peter has stocked the property with plenty of reading matter (mainly Great War), as well as tourist literature, maps etc. Additional tourism information may be obtained at Hesdin (a delightful town 11 miles away), where the Tourism Office fronts a free - and interesting - exhibition about the history of the town. We didn't stray far from Fruges - we didn't need to. Towards the end of our stay, a local vet a short walk from Willow Tree House dealt efficiently - and for good value - with our Pet Passport requirements. It didn't take long to clean and tidy on the morning of our departure [NB We didn't use the first floor accommodation - there was ample on the ground floor], and we left agreeing that it was a perfect base for the area ... and for people with dogs!

Do consider this as a rental property

  • 4 of 5

The house was spacious, comfortable and very well equipped for all our self catering needs. It had been well thought through, as a rental property, and suited our group of 5 adults very well. There was good, clear, helpful communication from the owner at all stages of the booking- reassurance even that our late arrival would not be a problem when we were forced to arrive three days late, due to car problems, and on arrival, we had a welcome handwritten, personal message and food pack, which was gratefully appreciated. There were plentiful maps and information leaflets too. Watching the London athletics on the English television was great. The upstairs themed bedrooms were airy and it was quiet at night; as reflected in the house name. We used the extra bedroom downstairs as a suitcase storage area/ dressing room, as the wooden stairs were spiral and we thought would have been difficult to manoeuvre with a heavy suitcase. The long garden lent itself well to relaxation and outside games- once again provided. The slight dip coming into the drive needed a lit bit of care for the car, but did improve as weight was removed. We would recommend this as a good base for visiting Azincourt, the nearby beaches and doing river sports.
