About the property

Wonderful holiday home which sleeps up to 11. Located on the outskirts of the village of Plaka in the Apokoronas area west of Chania.

Spacious living accommodation over 2 floors. Delightfully landscaped property with flowers, trees, shrubs, and lawn. Fantastic pool and terrace areas including a large pergola-covered outdoor kitchen with dining table and lounge. Beautiful views to the sea, Souda Bay, the White Mountains and the Akrotiri peninsula.

Ground floor: Entrance/hall, three bedrooms, conservatory with access to the front garden, bathroom, staircase to the first floor.

First floor: Living room with dining area and open kitchen, bathroom, sea facing terrace, access to the pool area, staircase to the mezzanine and roof terrace.

Outdoors: The property’s gem! On the same level as the first floor, there is a large pool area with a pergola-covered outdoor kitchen with dining table and lounge. This pool area also has an outdoor bathroom, and a lawn. The pool can be heated at a supplement during low season. In the garden, right below the pool area is a lovely niche where the Jacuzzi and a (second) outdoor shower is located. The Jacuzzi can be used at a supplement of Euro 300 per week. Next to the main (indoor) kitchen is a second pergola-covered dining area, and on the roof terrace which has lovely views to the sea, yet another pergola-covered dining area and sun loungers.

There is private parking on the property for 2+ cars.

Plaka / Almyrida and the area of Apokoronas.

Almyrida (sometimes spelled Almirida) is a small village with about 1000 permanent inhabitants in the Apokoronas area, located in the bay of Souda some 25 km west of Chania. The village looks out over the sea and the Akrotiri peninsula.

Traditionally a fishing village, Almyrida is today a small seaside resort extending approximately 2 kilometers along the coast. There are two sandy beaches fully organized with sun-beds and umbrellas, and a lifeguard, and a third beach with pebbles just before the village. The beaches of Almyrida are awarded the Blue Flag every year, ensuring that the sea is clean and that the beach provides the necessary safety features and customer service facilities. The sea has crystal clear shallow waters making it ideal for families with small children.

In front of the beach there is a cute islet called Karga. In Almyrida, you can also find the remains of an early Christian basilica from the 5th century with mosaics and some fallen down pillars.

Along the beach are a good selection of tavernas offering a wide range of cuisine, (many of them serving fresh fish) whilst enjoying breathtaking views across the beach and Souda bay. The sunsets in this part of Crete are spectacular as the sun falls across Souda Bay.

Almyrida also has a good choice of coffee shops, bars, gift shops, bakeries, and 2 small supermarkets. Supermarkets with more choice of vegetables, fruit and fresh meat are in the nearby village of Plaka and Kalyves.

Almyrida is also the crossroad to the sea-side larger village of Kalyves and the picturesque village of Plaka situated right above Almyrida. A short drive (15 to 20 minutes) brings you to a completely different world of large trees and olive groves, villages with historic stone buildings dating from the Venetian and Turkish times and interesting old small churches such as in the lovely villages Vamos, Gavalohori, and Kefalas. A hidden gem in the same area is the amazingly beautiful cove of Ombros Gialos with its crystal clear turquoise waters.

Compared to some of the other districts of Chania, the area of the Apokoronas (where the Almyrida is situated) still makes a pretty unspoiled impression, with its hills of olive groves, lush nature, old traditional mountain villages and good roads with limited traffic.

You can use Almyrida as a base to explore the picturesque Apokoronas area on foot or by car, and the old beautiful Venetian town of Chania when you plan your holiday in this area.

Almyrida is the ideal place in Crete for people who want to enjoy the sea in peace and quiet, far from the noise of the major tourist resorts.
