About Ally Bacon

My name is Ally and I live at Old Trecastle Barn, near to the lodge, with my two lovely children. We absolutely love living here, it's so peaceful but with easy access to many areas of outstanding beauty and of interest. As a family, there is never a dull moment. Children and the young at heart can enjoy canoeing, mountain biking/cycling, balloon flights and visit the many attractions in close proximity. (We refer to Old Trecastle & Lodge as a "constant holiday experience!" ).

Why Ally Bacon chose Monmouth

Old Trecastle & Lodge is situated on a Motte and Bailey, dating back some 900 years. The aspect is picturesque, with wonderful wild life, such as local geese & ducks, rabbits on the lawn (if your early enough) and a few owls to spot at dusk. There is a local vine yard, safe bike rides and outstanding views of the black mountains, and so much more. The location offers a choice of great restaurants, a busy market town and immediate links to Raglan Castle, Abergavenny, Crickhowell, Breacon Beacons & Hay-on-Wye. In the opposite direction, you can drop into Monmouth town, Symonds Yat, Ross-on-Wye and Hereford, to name but a few areas of interest.

Lovely, spacious and welcoming.

  • 5 of 5

We rested well at Trecastle Lodge in Ally's care. The welcome goodies and the DvD rental list were much appreciated, especially by our boys! We enjoyed badminton and volleyball on the sunny evenings. We were able to easily travel to climb the hills around Abergavenny and to revisit well known places in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean. Ally also very kindly carefully posted home a 3D model we had made and then left behind! Thank you!

Lovely property in a wonderfully peaceful location.

The owner, Ally and her family were extremely helpful and welcoming.

All we could need in the house and a great welcome pack.

We had a great week, despite mixed weather.

A superb place to have a restful break in beautiful surroundings.

Perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from a week long stay at Trecastle Lodge. What a lovely place! The lodge is the perfect place to get away from it all, set in beautiful peaceful surroundings yet still within easy reach of pretty villages and towns if you wish to explore.

We arrived to a lovely welcome hamper of eggs, milk, pastries amongst other things and a store cupboard with some essentials like herbs and spices, oil, sugar, teabags etc - which was really thoughtful. The rest of the kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed as we didn't eat out at all. The lodge itself is immaculate, decorated beautifully and spacious. It has lots of little extras not mentioned like loads of books and games , lots of DVD's and a radio in the kitchen.

The outside space is huge and fantastic for just chilling out in the sunny garden or playing games on the other lawn . I should also mention that there are tennis rackets and balls, badminton racquets , a football and a basketball net.

Ally was lovely, really friendly and helpful and we hope to see her again soon as we will definitely be returning. Fantastic! Thank you for a fab holiday!

Beautiful, peaceful week away in wonderful countryside

  • 4 of 5

This was a lovely place to stay in the most peaceful setting. House was great with lovely gardens, and good sized accommodation for the 4 of us plus dogs.

So much to do in the surrounding area - it was a great base to explore the countryside around.

Welcoming host, delightful setting and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

We were greeted with a lovely tray of local food and drink which included the largest eggs we have ever seen! Ally, the owner is most helpful and along with her children attended to our every need. We arrived looking for a real break and by the end of the week were feeling so much more relaxed. Part of the reason for that was also the beautiful setting among the Welsh hills with lovely views all around which we discovered walking along the lanes. Although it was only a few minutes to the A40, ideal for exploring that area of Wales the property was in a quiet location surrounded by lovely countryside. We would certainly recommend this accommodation as it is comfortable, spotlessly clean and spacious. Thank you Ally and helpers for a lovely week.
