Overview

About the property

Beautiful 2 Bed & 2 Bath Garden Cottage- Newly furnished to a very high standard

Garden Cottage forms part of a beautiful detached 200 year old grade II listed farmhouse, situated in the tiny hidden hamlet of Little Habton, Malton, North Yorkshire. Our cottage makes an ideal base to explore from; just 10 minutes from the historic market towns of Malton, Pickering, Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley and a stones throw away from Castle Howard.

Overlooking beautiful gardens, and with views of the North Yorkshire Moors, Garden Cottage has been furnished to a high standard with 2 en suite bedrooms, spacious sitting room with a log burner for those cozy winter nights in, and an elegant shaker kitchen with granite worktops and all the mod cons. There's an enclosed garden with garden furniture for those lovely summer evenings, and alfresco dining... In fact it’s quite a sun trap.

There are numerous walks and cycling trails, which can be found in the surrounding area of the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and close by are several renowned country pubs, including The Black Swan at Olstead and The Star, Harome, both of which have Michelin Stars. There is also an abundance of excellent traditional pubs in the area where visitors can sample real ales and generous Yorkshire hospitality.

Castle Howard is just 5 miles away, a magnificent 18th century historic house (film and TV location for Brideshead & more) with art collections, concerts, and a range of interesting events, woodland and riverside walks, a restaurant and farm shop. The ancient city of York (40 minutes) is easily accessible and here visitors can wander along the cobbled streets, admire the ancient architecture, walk along the city walls and cruise along the River Ouse. Visit the beautiful Minster, the National Railway Museum and the Viking Centre or just enjoy al fresco dining by the riverside and watch the world go by. It is also home to an exciting racecourse at the Knavesmire. Visit abbey ruins at Kirkham Priory and Rievaulx, and National Trust houses at Beningbrough and Nunnington Hall or explore the quaint market towns of Malton, Easingwold, Pickering and Helmsley. The North Yorkshire Moors including the Steam Railway, The Dales and the traditional coastal towns of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey are all within an hour’s drive. There’s also good public transport on hand.

We welcome children aged 5 years and over.

About Lucy Haxton

James and I live next door to Garden Cottage, with our 2 dogs Molly and Bumble. James is a property developer and i work in property rentals.

Lucy Haxton purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Lucy Haxton chose Malton

We fell in love with Habton House as soon as we saw it, it's a beautiful property in a very peaceful secluded location, yet it's not too far from civilisation! We moved here in 2009 and we renovated the house initially as a 3 bedroom B&B and latterly as a 2 bed holiday cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

Lovely countryside, peace and quiet, a very homely comfortable cottage with everything you could wish for (we hope!!).

Absolutely stunning

  • 5 of 5

What an absolutely lovely stay me and my family had. The cottage is situated in beautiful surroundings and we were able to take a walk and pick apples, pears and plums from the trees. It was so quiet which makes a change from our home in Saltburn. Upon arrival we were met by Bumble the dog, who was gorgeous, and Lucy had provided a lovely welcome basket with fresh eggs, milk, homemade marmalade, bread and fresh coffee - a very lovely thought. So close to Eden Camp and Flamingoland, as well as other attractions. We would absolutely stay here again, in fact I would live here! Thanks so much for a wonderful break.

Beautiful property in idyllic situation

  • 5 of 5

Would recommend this to anyone, really relaxing break. Property renovated beautifully , with high spec features, although maintaining cosy cottage feel.

Recommend bring your bikes- a little off the main road and especially if you wish a pint. But equally centrally placed if you want to visit north York's towns and villages

Idyllic spot in the beautiful countryside

  • 5 of 5

The owners have done this property to a very high standard with attention to detail and all your needs are catered for. We spent a long weekend in the property with friends and will certainly be returning. My only criticism is that there aren't really any walks from the property but that said everything else was perfect including the weather!

A happy week in a lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

Habton House Garden Cottage is a lovely place with everything that we needed for a very happy week. The location is quiet and peaceful although close to all the local attractions. The cottage itself is very well appointed, nothing missing that we could think of. It is certainly a place to visit again, and again.

Nice Cottage, warm and well equipped

  • 4 of 5

As seasoned property renters in the UK and overseas, this is one of the most comfortable and best equipped cottage we have stayed in. Apart from the central heating system there was a welcoming wood burner which is ideal for our cold winter months.

The bedrooms were light and airy with good quality furniture and comfortable beds. The bathrooms well equipped with super showers and plenty of hot water.

We are not great restaurant or pub visitors and like to cook, we found the kitchen well equipped and once we mastered the induction hob we were fine😀?.

Lucy was on hand if there were any queries and the welcome basket was a nice touch, the bread was delicious and I highly recommend Thomas the Baker.

If you are a fan of dishwashers, there is one in the cottage but good old washing up traditional style is more us and we would have preferred a freezer over a dishwasher as there is only a small freezer section within the fridge.

Overall a lovely stay despite the weather and we will definitely visit again.
