About this property

Cedarcroft Cottage Reeth, set in two acres of garden, river, ponds, amazing vie

We let our cottages from Friday to Friday on a weekly basis . Reeth may be busy, walk 300 metres and find the peace of Wraycroft Cottages. A pet free, child free site. Cedarcroft is one of three linked self catering cottages set in two acre gardens with private river bank and outstanding views. We offer the best of both worlds, clean, comfy, warm, well maintained, very well equipped cottages close to amenities but in an area of peace and tranquility. Inspected annually by VisitEngland we are awarded 4* and 100% for cleanliness.
Living on the site we are here to meet you on arrival. We only accept bookings from mature responsible adults who will respect the quietness of the site. We have mainly regular visitors who book because of this reason. The cottage is linked to Beechcroft and Cedarcroft. The huge garden and river is shared by all including our family although each cottage has its own patio overlooking the garden and hills beyond. As we have no means of contacting you before the booking is confirmed we do ask that you only reserve a holiday if you would feel happy with these restrictions. We are strictly no pets or children under 10 years of age.

This is a quiet site with many returning visitors. A family business established in 1965 we live on the two acre site alongside our three terraced holiday cottages.

Visitors appreciate the quietness and the feeling of being 'away from it all' , sitting by the river or overlooking the ponds and garden. We ask that new visitors come to share the fanastic views and ambience of the place. It really is out of the ordinary.

The cottages are well maintained and we score 100% for cleanliness each year awarded by Visit England. Folks say they want for nothing and that the kitchens are better equipped than there own. Visitors are expected to leave the cottages as they are found and treat them with respect and care.

No pets have ever been in the properties so we can offer holidays to people with allergies. Children must be ten or over, lots of space outside to run around but not inside!

Payment, the deposit is none refundable and the balance is due 60 days before arrival. In case of unavoidable cancellation we make every effort to relet the property but this is not always possible.

Home from Home
Discovered this little gem of a cottage several years ago and have returned every year since for stunning walks in this beautiful Dale. The location is great within a couple of minute's walk of the village shops and pubs and with lovely views over the valley and hillsides. The cottage is very comfortable and homely with a small outside patio overlooking the garden which is beautifully laid out and maintained - a lovely lawn stretching all the way down to the banks of the Swale.

About the host

The Hodgson family has lived in the Dale for generations. Walter was born in the village and only left to be in the navy during World War II. Ray however is an incomer. She left Lancashire, where she was born, to go to Dartford college of Physical Education and then taught in various places including Australia. We established Wraycroft Cottages in the 1960's, and are still enthusiastically continuing (except perhaps on change over days !) With our son Dave and family now living next door we are able to share the load. Dave also Reeth born, left to go to music college, travelled and worked abroad but then in 2003 returned to the village with his family. He was well able to step into a major cottage

Why they chose this property

A stunning field on Back Lane Reeth, we used to walk past and say 'one day we will live on this field". The dream came true. Buying the land in 1970 we started building our bungalow to accommodate us and Ray's parents. We built it stone by stone living first in he garage.
In 1980 we decided to build the Croft Cottages alongside us and sell off our other holiday properties. Such a special location why not share it. We offer an oasis of calm where visitors can enjoy spectacular views, access to the River Swale, ponds, trees, wildlife whilst staying in 4 star accommodation which achieves 100% cleanliness by Visit England. We have three terraced self-catering cottages, each sleeping up to 2 mature adults. . The cottages are kept warm through out the year.

There are open fires, wi-fi access, private parking

For the active there is a basketball hoop on the original tennis court. A substantial full sized badminton net can be erected on the grass or hard court. A swim in the river or a run up and down the garden for the hardy.

Others may elect to sit by the river or on one of the well placed benches or use a net to pond dip. Just let the world go by.

We offer a friendly welcome, advice if requested, privacy if not.

The fact that we have such a high percentage of returning visitors is our highest recommendation. One couple have come for over 40 years and many have been returning for between ten to twenty years.

There are so many holiday cottages available nowadays it must be difficult for new visitors to decide which one to select.

We like you to ring so you can hear our enthusiam and answer any questions you may have.

Choose us and we are sure you will not be disappointed.

What makes this property unique

We love the properties because of the location and because we physically built everything on the site with our own 'four hands' . They are truly part of the family. It has been a labour of love and we are so pleased to be able to share the place with like minded visitors.
The garden is loved by many and it makes all the hours spent working there very worth while
