SOUTH WING APARTMENT (sleeps max 5) renovated to a very high standard

South Wing apartment sleeps 4 (or 5 with a portable bed) and contains 2 bedrooms: a large great looking lounge/principal bedroom with old exposed oak beams, kingsize bed, 42' flat screen TV +DVD player, antique flemish chandeliers, antique fireplace, siting zone, authentic windows with the old original shutters and stunning views; second bedroom is a separate twin bedroom (possible children's room). There is a stylish family bathroom (shower) and fully equipped private kitchen. Guests can experience life in the Grade II listed Hall, enjoy fabulous views from all bedrooms, use the Tennis court, Croquet lawn, Barbecue, large Victorian style conservatory with a table for 12 people, garden tables for outdoor breakfasts / dinners, Sunbathing area with deck chairs and cocktail table, a hammock near the Parterre and the main lawn, the Secret Arabian garden with benches under a lime tree canopy etc. If you have a larger party Swafield Hall can accommodate up to 12guest (please ask the owners)

Swafield Hall offers self-catering accommodation in a truly outstanding rural setting, within tranquil gardens and parkland, very close to the sea. Guests can stay in beautifully restored private apartments, experience life in the Grade II listed Hall, discover its historical interiors, enjoy great views from the windows of the apartments and explore stunning gardens, a tennis court, a croquet lawn, a large Victorian conservatory with barbecue area. Swafield Hall estate is ideally located near the North Norfolk coast, close to the coastal resort of Mundesley with its wonderful sandy beach (5 min drive), but far enough from the noise of the popular sea resort. Swafield Hall is equidistant between two main tourist attractions in North Norfolk: Cromer (8 miles) and the Broads (8 miles). Sheringham is 13 miles. National Trust treasures Felbrigg Hall and Blickling Hall are both just in 10 miles from Swafield Hall.

The house is mentioned in "The Buildings of England" by Nicolaus Pevsner and Bill Wilson and has an impressive brick and flint Tudor North facade and beautiful lime washed Georgian South elevation. Local legend reports that Admiral Horatio Nelson stayed in the house. He visited the local area many times and attended Paston Grammar School, North Walsham, until he was 12 years old. North Walsham is 2 miles from Swafield.

Choose between two beautifully restored self catering apartments, with many period features including exposed beams, an open fireplace, antique chandeliers and original window shutters.

To access your apartment you pass through the historical interiors of Swafield Hall including the impressive 17 metre long vaulted Ground Floor Hallway, with marble flooring and Georgian yellow walls, and beautiful 18th century main staircase.The secluded top floor location allows you to enjoy stunning views from all your windows.

At Swafield Hall guests can enjoy all beautiful gardens, use the tennis court, croquet lawn, barbecue, tables at the parterre for outdoor breakfasts / dinners, seating area in the large wooden Victorian style conservatory, outdoor sunbathing area with deck chairs and cocktail table, shaded relaxation area with a hammock near the parterre and the main lawn, relaxation area in the Arabian Secret garden with a lime tree canopy and two benches etc.

The Butterfly reserve, Paston Way and Dilham to North Walsham canal (Norfolk’s only artificial, locked sailing canal) are 5 minutes walk from the Hall and ideal for leisurely walks or bicycle rides.

The nearest villages are Swafield (1 mile) with the award winning local butcher Tavern Tasty Meats, Trunch (1.7 miles) with an excellent pub 'The Crown Inn' and famous classical concerts in Trunch Church during the summer season, and the Market Town of North Walsham (2 miles) containing several restaurants and the local Waitrose.

For your stay at Swafield Hall you can choose the East Wing or the South Wing, each with private kitchen & bathroom. The South Wing apartment sleeps 4 (plus the possibility of an additional person on a portable bed). For larger parties the South Wing can be rented together with Nelson’s suite (+2), and/or with the East Wing (+2) providing accommodation for up to 9 guests. The South Wing apartment contains a principal bedroom/ lounge with kingsize bed & large flat screen TV, antique flemish chandeliers, antique fireplace, authentic windows with the original shutters and stunning views, spacious kitchen, bathroom (shower) and a twin bedroom.

The East Wing sleeps 2 (plus the possibility to place a baby cot with can be provided) and contains a bedroom with kingsize bed, flat screen TV, large victorian style bathroom (both rooms with antique chandeliers) and kitchen.

In February 2017 we've finished Nelson’s Suite renovation. This is a luxurious 250 square feet private room, situated on the first floor of Swafield Hall. Nelson’s Suite retains its original features like antique plaster, bay windows, servants bell mechanisms, servants door and C18th enfilade doors.

The suite can be rented for special occasions as an additional bedroom to accommodate larger parties of guests. It sleeps 2 and contains a large lounge/bedroom with exposed oak beams, kingsize bed, 42″ flat screen TV, polished wood floors, crystal chandelier, antique furniture, bay sash windows and stunning views over the parterre and main lawn. It has its own en-suite with Victorian style shower and original fireplace. The house has ample parking in the tudor courtyard. Guests' bicycles can be securely stored overnight.

About Boris Konoshenko

Previously Chief Editor and Managing Director of the most read daily newspaper in Moscow (Russia), Boris got two higher education, first as a radio physicists and second as a theatre director. At the perestroika time he chose to work in the new born independent media business and achieved commercial success. Boris likes theatre and classical music, handicrafts, restoration and decorating, he is an avid gardener and Harley enthusiast.

In 2014 Boris quit his job in media business, which became too dependent politically, moved from Moscow to London and started looking for a restoration project.

"When we visited Norfolk and saw Swafield Hall for the first time the house definitely wasn’t in its best condition. It had been on the property market for a long time and nobody had lived there for 3 years. The roof was leaking, walls were cracked, some windows, doors and wooden constructions were rotten… It was crying out for TLC. But it was a beautiful, outstanding house with more than 4 centuries of history, great interiors and marvellous gardens. We said “definitely not” but returned here once, returned again, and finally decided to buy Swafield Hall, renovate it and restore it to its previous glory.

The renovation started in May 2015, and the work on Swafield Hall is now complete.

Why Boris Konoshenko chose North Walsham

Swafield Hall is very close the North Norfolk coast, 2.8 miles walk/drive to Mundesley with its wonderful sandy beach. Nearby you can find some of the finest beaches the UK has to offer (Cromer 8 miles, Sheringham 13 miles) and the famous Norfolk Broads (8 miles). National Trust gardens and estates Felbrigg Hall and Blickling Hall are both situated just in 10 miles from Swafield Hall.

Local legend is that Horatio Nelson stayed in the house. He visited this area many times and even attended Paston Grammar School, North Walsham, until he was 12 years old. North Walsham is 2 miles from Swafield.

The picturesque old railway track of the northern section of the Norfolk and Suffolk Joint Railway is 5 minutes walk from Swafield Hall. It is now a public walkway (a part of the Paston Way footpath) and a nature and Butterfly reserve full of of wild flowers, scrub and undisturbed grassy banks, which make it an ideal habitat for butterflies. Nineteen different species have been recorded. The railway was constructed in the 19th and 20th centuries, though unfortunately the section that linked Swafield to North Walsham was closed in 1964.

Swafield Hall estate is surrounded by beautiful fields, from the west windows you can see a stunning view to 15th-century church of St Nicholas at Swafield (0.8 mile), from north windows – a view to 14th-century church of St Botolph in Trunch (1.2 miles).

Fantastic accommodation in a beautiful location!

My family and I stayed in the South Wing apartment for 5 days and had an absolutely lovely holiday. Swafield Hall is truly charming, we enjoyed all the facilities, tennis, BBQ, beautiful gardens and a very well equipped and spacious apartment. Tim and Boris were very friendly and welcoming and we wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Beautiful hall close to the coast

We had a great weekend in Swafield Hall. The hall is beautifully restored with a fantastic garden. The apartment was very spacious and very nicely decorated. On Sunday morning Tim took half an hour to show us around the garden which we enjoyed very much. Highly recommend.

A beautiful, comfortable historic property in idyllic surroundings

We stayed in the South Wing of this amazing house, which was on the top floor, with lovely views across the extensive grounds. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, everything was immaculate and fresh.. The house is very old and fascinating, and has been renovated with great care by its charming owners. There are large grounds which guests are welcome to use and we were made to feel very much at home. A good location too, close to the coast and within easy reach of Norwich. Overall a very enjoyable stay, we couldn't have asked for more.

Beautifully restored property

We really enjoyed our stay at Swafield Hall. The property has been beautifully restored by the owners and it is very convenient for exploring Norfolk. The apartment was perfect for a family and our kids loved running around the huge garden.

Can't wait to return to Swafield Hall

Had a wonderful few days in an apartment in Swafield Hall. The apartment is beautiful, with thought given to all aspects of the design and furnishings, everything is spotlessly clean, with a brilliant shower, comfy beds, large sofas, TV if needed, plus all we needed in the kitchen. Lovely to stroll in the large garden, and we enjoyed our chats with Boris and Tim. We ate in local pubs, visited some of the more tourist destinations such as Holkham Beach, and Blakeney area; had a long walk on the quiet beach in nearby Mundersley and visited nearby Holt. We just hope to return very very soon. Swafield Hall is a gem.

Beautiful quiet setting

We enjoyed our 4 night stay in August in the South Wing of Swafield Hall. Boris and Tim were excellent hosts. The apartment was a good size and done out to a high standard. We enjoyed strolling around the garden and watching the sun set from our window in the apartment. Beds were comfy and the shower room was excellent . I would thoroughly recommend this property . Thank you.
