About Lindsay Arnell

Rose Cottage is owned by husband and wife Steve and Lindsay who live in the neighbouring county of Staffordshire. We have always loved visiting and walking in the Peak District.

We have another holiday cottage in the Peak District and take enormous pride in offering high quality holiday accommodation to our guests. Unless unavoidable, we always welcome you personally to the cottage and we are on hand to offer advice on the local area and to respond to any events needing immediate attention.

As dog owners ourselves, we don't believe that you should have to compromise on the quality and comfort of your accommodation in order to bring your dog with you on holiday.

We look forward to welcoming you to Rose Cottage.

Lindsay Arnell purchased this cottage in 2016

Why Lindsay Arnell chose Biggin

From our own experience as guests staying in cottages and latterly as holiday cottage owners, we knew exactly what we wanted for our second holiday cottage.

Our criteria was simple but surprisingly difficult to find.

The cottage had to:

- be in the National Park

- be within walking distance of a good "foodie" pub or restaurant

- have its own private garden for our guests to enjoy

- and have its own parking so that you don't have to spend your precious holiday time hunting for a space for your car.

We are proud to offer all this at Rose Cottage and we think it's the perfect place for you to unwind and relax.

What makes this cottage unique

Rose Cottage is conveniently located in the quiet village of Biggin yet only a short distance from the amenities of Hartington, Ashbourne and Buxton.

Biggin is perfectly located to explore the Dove and Manifold valleys, the Tissington and High Peak Trails and the renowned National Trust Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty of Dovedale.

Within 300 yards of Rose Cottage is the village pub The Waterloo Inn serving excellent lunch and evening food and a wide selection of real ales, ciders, lagers and wines. Also within 300 yards of Rose Cottage is the 17th Century country house hotel of Biggin Hall offering lunches, afternoon teas and evening dining.

Notes:
Rose Cottage is approximately 150 years old and is a traditional limestone property typical of the Peak District National Park. Given the age of the property, we like to pre-advise guests of some of its characteristics. Some of the doorways and windows are quite low and the stairs are relatively narrow and steep. There is a handrail on the stairs and we advise guests to please take care when carrying bags up and down to the bedroom.

Beautiful cottage in idyllic scenery

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Rose cottage. The cottage is clean, cosy and comfortable. We were greeted on arrival by Lindsay, who kindly put the kettle on and made a pot of tea. Lindsay also gave us some good knowledge of where to go which was very helpful especially as our old boy (dog) would not have been able to manage some of the more strenuous activities. The welcome package was a lovely gesture, the cookies and wine especially!

Rose cottage is ideally situated for visiting areas of the Peak District, we managed to squeeze in Dovedale, Bakewell, Ashbourne, Hulme End, Hartington, Matlock and a few more places during our weekend break.

We personally have to thank Lindsay for accommodating our parrot as well. We don't like to leave him behind, however it is not always easy to find accommodation who will accept our small feathered friend.

The facilities in the cottage are great, a home from home experience. We can not fault the cottage, we loved it so much we have put it on our list of places to revisit.

We had a great stay in Biggin at this cottage which was well equipped with everything you need to stay in a self catering cottage. We even had snow on our last morning which our dog Tilly had never seen before.Plenty of walks to be done locally with the Tissington trail in the village. lots of good pubs with a great selection of menus for everyone.

Very comfortable with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our three days immensely. Tissington Trail 400 yards away, great for walking either direction. 6 miles north to the Royal Oak, very good. Local pub Waterloo Inn 200 yds., also excellent, both dog friendly.

Very friendly welcome from Lindsay. Excellent welcome pack. Beautifully furnished, with lovely pieces of arts and crafts. Kitchen very well equipped. Lovely walks in the area, and good food at the local pub. However would not be suitable for people with motability problems, as the staircase is very steep.

Owner's Response: Thank you Julia for your lovely feedback. I am really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Rose Cottage. You are quite right that the staircase is steep and we do endeavour to make this clear in the facilities description of the property details so that guests are aware before they book. Hope to welcome you back again in the future.

Beautiful Cottage making a Relaxing Break

  • 5 of 5

Rose Cottage is Beautiful and the perfect size for a couple and a dog.

Situated in a perfect area, making it easy to get anywhere in the peaks, if by car or foot. We spent days out visiting villages and walking and spent cosy evenings in front of the fire relaxing. Just what is needed on a mini break away. We were greeted by the owner Lyndsay on our arrival which made it all that bit more special. We have rented plenty of property's over time have and never been greeted by the owner. We Loved it here and will be back. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wanted to visit this area. Perfect!!

The charming rural village of Biggin is situated perfectly for exploring the Dove and Manifold valleys within the Peak District National Park. The village was founded in the 13th century and is a scattered stone-built village with a church, a lovely pub serving good food and Biggin Hall Restaurant. Biggin is close to a national nature reserve, the wonderful National Trust owned Dovedale and the Tissington Trail, with excellent access for all for walking and cycling. The well known village of Hartington is close by, offering a good selection of shops and amenities, including the award famous Hartington Cheese and Wine Company producing and selling a wide range of delicious cheeses. The whole area is a paradise for walking, cycling and horse riding. The famous spa town of Buxton with its fabulous opera house has an array of shops and bars and is just a 20 minute drive away, while the antique searcher’s paradise of Ashbourne is also an easy drive away in the opposite direction. Visit Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, or take a trip to Alton Towers for a fun-filled day out. Biggin is perfectly placed for exploring the whole Peak District.
