About this property

Beautiful, Sunny 1880s Miner's Cabin 1 Block from Leadville's Main Street

Beautifully remodeled and sunshine-filled 800 s.f. miner's cabin. 1 block from Harrison Ave (main street) with 3 comfy beds (1 queen, 1 full, 1 twin trundle) and 1 large bathroom. Spacious living room with vaulted ceiling and mountain views. All furniture and the bathroom fixtures are current -- you won't find any of the lumpy couches or mattresses that are often a little-too-charming hallmark of some older vacation homes. And the radiant heat under the beautiful wood floors warm the place right up in colder months. The eat-in kitchen is stocked with all you'd need to make a great meal. Sun streams in from the south and west-facing windows and makes the front porch a great spot for morning coffee or evening drinks almost any time of year. Only one block from the finish of the LT100 and two blocks from the 12-mile Mineral Belt Trail -- paved for biking in summer and groomed for XC skiing in winter. This little house is perfect for a getaway to the mountains for a family, group of friends, or couples.

We want our guests to know exactly what they're getting (a wonderfully updated, comfortable, and relaxing getaway), so although these things are noted elsewhere in this property description, we wanted to repeat here a few full disclosures re: things folks tend to ask about:
CHECK-IN/OUT: Check-in is at 4pm and check-out is at 11am. Earlier/later may be possible but you'll have to check with us just beforehand.
DOG GUESTS: We will consider one extremely well behaved dog guest who will not be left unattended/uncrated in the home. Be sure to include the pet in the reservation request and send us your pitch about why s/he will be the best guest ever. There is a $50 pet fee per stay.
WIFI/CABLE/TV: The house is equipped with wifi but not cable. No televisions are included. We like to keep it low tech and peaceful for us and our guests.
PARKING: Parking is on the street within the City of Leadville. Like any city parking, it can be a little competitive at times, particularly in the winter. Nonetheless, guests usually can get a spot in front of or alongside the home.
LONGER STAYS: We offer a 5% discount for weekly stays, and 10% for monthly stays.
EXTRA GUEST FEES AND PRICE NEGOTIATION: For each guest over two guests, there is a $25/night extra guest fee. We are unable to negotiate on the price, but we do 2-for-1 on kids under 18 and we waive the extra guest fee for children aged 3 and under.
SMOKING: No smoking of tobacco, weed, or anything else is permitted in the house or on the property, including the back patio, the front deck, or the yard. Evidence of smoking is grounds for losing the damage deposit.
WOOD STOVE: For potential damage, extra required cleaning, and insurance reasons, we're sorry but the wood stove is not available for use by guests.

Great stay
Stayed here for a week as we skied some of Lake and Summit County. Great location, very clean, and lots of kitchen supplies vs other rental places I’ve stayed. We accidentally got over charged by $30 and owner took care of it. Will probably try to stay here again.

So Cozy and Great Location!
This spot is just so, so cozy with a historic feel and great proximity to shops and restaurants. The beds were comfy with lots of extra blankets around and a really well equipped kitchen. We just loved our stay here and will be trying to book this spot every time we come to ski at Cooper!

We are two professionals--1 college educator and one international wildlife conservation planner, into outdoor sports, well traveled, and parents of 2 amazing kiddos, 1 enthusiastic dog, and one indifferent cat. We split our time between the Front Range and Leadville, taking every opportunity to bike, run, hike, backpack, cross country ski, etc. We'd be happy to give you the scoop on where to get out to play. We also can point you in the right direction for coffee, brews, and restaurants.

In our wanderings across the country and around the world, we have stayed everywhere from 5-star hotels to huts made of cow dung, so we know what it's like to be guests and appreciate all of the wonderful things it has to offer!

Why they chose this property

We bought this house out of a genuine love for Leadville and its great community, fascinating history, and beautiful surrounds. With endless XC skiing options in the winter and backpacking/hiking/biking in the summer, it's hard to beat Leadville. We also love that the community continually celebrates its boom town history and is proud of its rugged charm. Leadville is genuine through and through. In the house, you'll find a big binder of maps and brochures to help you take full advantage of your vacation.

What makes this property unique

We wish we could take credit for the fantastic remodel of this home. The guy who did it didn't cut corners and overhauled the house from top to bottom. It's still charming and cozy, but with a great layout, current, comfortable furniture, and a very clean, updated bathroom, complete with bath bubbles provided. All systems and appliances are in great condition and the proximity to everything can't be beat.
