Overview

Description

The Dog House

One bedroomed stable conversion, with an open plan sitting, dining and kitchen area. The sitting room has a log burner and views out towards Snowdonia National Park. This is a wonderful space to enjoy the peaceful sounds of this rural locality. The cottage has been recently renovated and comprises a traditional style farmhouse kitchen and uses a mixture of rustic materials. There is an adjoining door that means access can be gained into the next door cottage (The Duck House) if further accommodation is required; this would give further sleeping facilities for an additional 4 persons (making the property suitable for up to 8). The additional cottage also has a bathroom with a bath in it as opposed to a shower.

About the property

Country retreat

A pair of beautiful, idyllic one bedroom country retreats, with all the comfort and cosiness you could wish for whilst on holiday on Anglesey. Whatever the weather you will enjoy the comfort offered in either of these properties, and the fun and excitement of the surrounding area. The sitting rooms with their log burning stoves provide the setting for relaxing after a day out exploring the natural beauty of the Isle of Anglesey and the surrounding National Park.

We have sensitively renovated the properties over the last 4 years and have done much of the work ourselves taking into account every minute detail. Our hope is that we have created relaxing and calm spaces that enable you to fully unwind and enjoy time spent in this beautiful part of the world. The natural beauty of the area speaks for itself and if you enjoy the outdoors and love natural history this is definitely the place to visit - you will not be disappointed.

Both the Dog House and the Duck House have a sleeping capacity of 2 +2 people each, however we have an adjoining door (sensitively hidden between them and locked if each cottage is rented separately) that allows access to the adjoining cottage if required. This enables two families/couples or group of friends to enjoy both spaces together, or a larger family to be able to rent the complete space. The additional sleeping for 2 people in each of the cottages is a sofa bed so you would need to be organised and know each other well!

About Dr K D Bigham

“It suited our love for the outdoors and we could see it's potential - being able to share it with others.”

We love the outdoors and living on Anglesey with all the natural beauty it has to offer. I am a Clinical Psychologist working for the NHS with adults with a learning disability and my partner Ben currently works primarily from home for a railway company. We have hens (so lots of fresh eggs), 2 horses, 2 cats, 2 spaniels and a pet sheep! We also have 4 children between us and grandson who you may spot hoovering. We live in the main house on sight so are always at hand to offer support with anything you need or simply advice on the best spots to explore or best places to eat. We also understand that this is your holiday and will respect you privacy; the way we have configured the entrances mean that you enter your property in privacy and need not come into contact with us unless requested. We love the outdoors and living on Anglesey with all the natural beauty it has to offer. Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

This is a gorgeous property in a beautiful countryside setting that is just so peaceful. The beaches of Newborough, Aberffraw and Rhosneiger are close by and there is so much else to explore in Anglesey a bit further afield.

Friendly and generous hosts who have added all sorts of thoughtful touches to make this place so special - we really enjoyed our stay - thanks!

A pretty perfect cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the Dog House for a week. It's a gorgeous compact cottage - beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. Katie and Ben are lovely, warm, caring and relaxed hosts. There are some lovely touches - more than they needed to do - for example, the log burner, superb shower and the pretty corner shelf unit in the kitchen. In addition, the little welcome goodies of huge eggs, marmalade and Welsh cakes, make it feel all the more special. We would certainly return there. Thank you Katie and Ben for being such excellent hosts.

We are situated in a rural area of great natural beauty which is ideal for individuals who want to escape to the countryside. Our location is excellent for bird watching and will delight anyone interested in natural history. Malltraeth is where the renowned wildlife illustrator Charles Tunnicliffe lived and worked overlooking the Cefni Estuary. Here you can see shelduck, one of Tunnicliffe's favourite subjects, tufted duck, ringed plover and other waders including little egrets. From the Estuary you can walk along the Cob and onto the coastal path that takes you into the forest. Here you can see red squirrels, which are currently thriving on the Isle of Anglesey.

The Cefni River runs alongside the property where if you are lucky you may spot the elusive otter. We also have a large variety of inland birds that congregate nearby in the local RSPB reserve; a hidden gem just 2 miles along the bicycle track and footpath.

There are several local beaches that are ideal for swimming and surfing, or just relaxing and enjoying BBQs and picnics. There are many nearby villages where provisions can be bought as well as restaurants that offer a wide range of locally produced food. The best beaches are Aberffraw beach (5 miles), Newborough beach and forest (6 miles) and Rhosneigr (9 miles); both Aberffraw and Rhosneigr have nice pubs and/or restaurants. In addition there is a very good local restaurant called The Marram Grass, 4 miles away towards Newborough, which has recently received excellent reviews in the National newspapers.

From our home the full Snowdonia mountain range can be seen and the sunsets are just beautiful. Access to the Snowdonia National Park is very easy and you can be walking in the hills in just 30 minutes.

For those that feel hill walking is too energetic, there is a railway that will take you to the top of Snowdon where you can get some Bara Brith and a cup of tea! Other activities such as zip wiring, mountain biking, canoeing and kite surfing are all easily accessible.

There are a number of family activities locally including Anglesey Sea Zoo, Greenwood Forest Park, Foel Farm Park and Pili Palas to mention just a few.

Canoes and bicycles can be rented from us at the property for a small fee.
