My wife and I live in the UK, in Camberley, Surrey. For twenty years now we have owned and rented out a number of beachside apartments in Central Fuengirola overlooking the Marina, and as Smiths for Spain, together with our property managing partners in Spain, we have also introduced many thousands of happy clients to a large number of other similar privately owned studio, one, and two bedroomed apartments in Central Fuengirola.

In addition, since 2002, together with our own Manager Jeff we have also introduced many clients to a smaller number of privately owned studio, one, and two bedroomed apartments in Benalmadena, Arroyo de la Miel where Jeff lives.

Excellent property! The only drawback was the very limited and poor access to Wifi. It was only available between 10.00 am to 6.00pm in the reception area.

What could be better than a happy stay in an easy to get to, lovely apartment with a state of the art swimming pool suitable for all ages, in a beautiful, secluded well tended garden with fantastic sea views, opposite the beach, and conveniently situated close to a myriad number of restaurants offering every conceivable cuisine, with every other amenity nearby, and fronted by a wide, flat 7 kilometre Promenade with its beachside restaurants, just perfect for those strolls and snacks in the sun. That is Fuengirola, the best kept secret on the Costa del Sol !!

OK apartment - BUT!!!

The apartment is ok, but there are a few things that we found were not to our expectations!

The apartment was not really clean. By first look yes, but below the beds, the cupboards in corners there was old dust! This apartment needs a real good allover cleaning! The owners also stored carpets etc behind the sofas! The door to the patio was not at all maintained. You almost had to use force to open it! Although there is a Flat screen TV - it's so old that the remote does not work!

The apartment has only sun from morning to 12 o'clock and is not only 15 min from Fuengirola center but 25-30 min.

When you want to rent out your apartment, you got to keep it clean, maintained and don't store old stuff behind sofas

Owner's Response: This lovely sea front apartment on the long, flat, wide Promenade with its private South facing balcony overlooking the beach is located in a prestige development. The apartment is a long established family ‘ second home ‘ to which we have had the privilege of introducing many happy clients, several of whom return year after year, for almost 20 years now , without ever having received a single adverse comment. We have therefore noted with disappointment and with some surprise your detailed housekeeping remarks, and you can rest assured that these matters will be attended to without delay. On a more positive note, we trust that you took every advantage of the delightful secluded gardens with the new easy access swimming pool and the beachside restaurants only a few metres away from your front door. We also hope that you discovered and sampled the countless other restaurants which are quite literally on your doorstep as well, together with the local supermarket which is only a few minutes’ walk away too. Fuengirola is often referred to by those in the know as the best kept secret on the Costa del Sol and for a myriad number of very good reasons. It is only 20 minutes by train from Malaga International Airport to the centre of Fuengirola which is the end of the line so you can’t get lost ! Fuengirola also has every amenity you could wish for, in abundance, and a warm welcome will always await you.

FUENGIROLA is often referred to as the best kept secret on the Costa del Sol and with very good reason, just read on !

FUENGIROLA BEACH & PLACES OF INTEREST JUST A WALK AWAY:

The wonderful soft sandy beach is directly opposite your apartment and just seconds away!

The Promenade, also directly opposite, is 7 kilometres (5 miles) long, wide and FLAT, just perfect for those memorable strolls in the sun. There are frequent part shaded resting places so that you can sit and admire the lovely sea & beach views.

In the evening the beaches are floodlit and everything appears quite magical! This is the perfect time to have a 'nightcap' in one of the many cafe/restaurants built literally on the beach.

Just a short walk along the Promenade you can take a trip on a glass bottomed boat looking for dolphins. Just up the road are the Fuengirola Zoo and the Giant Water Park (Parque Acuatico Mijas).

In the Marina, which is a short stroll along the Promenade, there is a "World of Watersports" available including Parasailing, Scuba Diving, Jet Skiing and much more.

Also very close by is the Miramar Shopping Centre which is a large modern covered shopping complex with cinemas (many films shown in English) and cafes.

There is a local market on a Tuesday and a 'flea market' (second-hand market) on Saturday, both within walking distance.

FUENGIROLA RESTAURANTS, CAFES & BARS:

2 minutes' walk to a large number of restaurants, cafes, bars, fast food outlets, supermarkets and shops. The restaurant area is known as 'Fish Alley' where you can get a 3 course meal from about 8 Euros or £7.

TRANSPORT & AMAZINGLY CHEAP TRANSFER:-

Fly to Malaga Airport - Fuengirola is just 15 miles / 24 km from the airport.

Train: The modern, well signposted, airport train station is now INSIDE Malaga airport / about £2 fare to FUENGIROLA train station / frequency every 20 minutes / about 25 minutes journey time (lovely scenic route) / your apartment is a VERY short taxi ride away. There is a taxi rank immediately outside the train station.

Taxi: approx £30-35 each way / about 20 minutes.

Car not necessary - a short walk to every amenity.

Car Parking: if required, there are lots of very local car parks available / details emailed on request.

THERE ARE LOTS OF LOCAL PLACES OF INTEREST:

Benalmadena: 8km - 10 minutes by car / 15 minutes by local bus or train.

Mijas: 10km - 10 minutes by car / 20 minutes by local bus.

Marbella & Puerto Banus: 20km - 20 minutes by car / 40 minutes by local bus.

Malaga: (including airport) 24km - 20 minutes by car / 30 minutes by local bus or train.

Mijas - easily accessible by local bus: Mijas is a pretty 9th century Andalucian village with craft shops, cafes and the well known donkey taxis. Mijas nestles on the mountainside with landscaped viewing platforms and seating for you to look over the spectacular coastline below.

Malaga - easily accessible by local bus or train: The city of Malaga boasts the world famous Picasso Museum. Other places of interest are the comprehensive shopping centre, the Cathedral, the Castle and the Port.

Benalmadena - easily accessible by local bus or train: Benalmadena has a "mini Disney World" with stage shows (Tivoli World).

Opposite Tivoli World is the exciting cable car ride (Teleferica) which will take you to the top of the mountain!

Benalmadena has a very impressive new Marina development offering boat trips, restaurants, colourful shops and boutiques.

If you fancy diving beneath the sea without getting wet there is the Sea Life Centre and if you would also like to see a dolphin show then the Selwo Marina is a must.

THERE ARE MANY 1-DAY CONDUCTED COACH TRIPS:-

Gibraltar - very popular for shoppers looking for tax free goods.

Nerja – a seaside town with famous caves.

Ronda – a picturesque ancient town set way up in the mountains.

For the more adventurous there are trips to places like Sevilla and Granada. And, just across the water to exotic Tangier in North Africa!
