About the property

A country house in beautiful loction with comforts to four star hotel standard.

You will love Inverlunan Country Retreat because of the wonderful location at the heart of Lunan Bay on the estuary of the Lunan Water. The house has plenty of space for eight visitors, with two double bedrooms, and two twin rooms. Each bedroom has an en-suite facility. One double bedroom is on the ground floor, and may be suitable for the elderly or less agile visitor. The other double bedroom has a king-sized bed, and a fantastic view of the Lunan Water and the ancient Red Castle in sillouhette. The twin bedrooms are equally comfortable for couples or for single adults, or for children. There is a large open-plan kitchen/dining room, a separate living room with access to a paved sun porch, plus two sizable conservatories, one of which is for relaxation or an eating area for meals, and the other is used as a light, bright, warm kitchen utility extension. There is a dishwasher, a washing machine, ample refrigeration facility including a chest freezer and two other refrigerators. There is a garden area with low enclosing wall, suitable for children and or dogs. The house is located immediately beside the grass-covered sand-dunes and is so close to the sea that the breaking waves can be easily heard; and the high-tide mark is literally a stone's-throw away. There is LPG gas supplied for cooking and central heating. There is ample parking immediately beside the front door. The property is reached by a well-drained, and well-built track about 150 meters length from the tarmac. The property has extensive grounds outside of the enclosed garden area (for wider playing areas), and all of the property's surrounding land, beach, woods, riverside. and dunes are available for responsible visitor access and walking. In easy walking distance is a popular cafe / restaurant that caters for visitors to Lunan Bay, and shopping can be obtained at supermarkets and smaller shops in Montrose and Arbroath. Generally all necessary professional and utility services are available in the locality.

About Andrew Gauldie

I am Andrew, 59 years, married to Edi, 52 years. We own and run a full-time holiday letting business at Lunan Bay and also in Montrose. I have formerly had a career as a veterinarian with specific interests in livestock animal health, and food safety, in UK and in developing countries. I have lived and worked in 17 countries in Africa, the Middle East, the Far East, and Eastern Europe. Edi is formerly a food inspector. We aim to continue to develop our several holiday properties for families, retreat groups, and special-interest groups. Our further aim is to be successful through providing the stunning location and houses, comfortable facilities, and a personal service that makes visitors feel they are having (and have had) a great holiday break, or a relaxing and rejuvenating retreat. We aim to cater for wide interests and needs, and we are prepared to work together with you to achieve your personal or group aims and requirements.

The location of the Inverlunan Country Retreat, immediately next to the fantastic Lunan bay beach and the Lunan water (the little river), is quite stunning. Lunan bay is well known and famous in Scotland as a beauty spot, and the beach itself has previously won awards for the best-kept beach in Scotland. There is something for everyone; fresh water, sea water, sand, pebbles, ancient castle, woods, dunes, flowers, wild animals, birds, fish, (and even occasionally dolphins are reported). Many activities are possible, locally, including golf, surfing, fishing, parascending, etcetera; and Lunan is a great base for touring the region or the East and North East parts of Scotland.

What makes this house unique

Lunan Bay and the surrounding area and the wider region have attractions and possible activities all year round, even though the climate in summer is, of course, kinder and more gentle than in winter. Summer and Autumn can produce the most beautiful weather and warmth, while the light and cloud-cover can provide an ever-changing show. Aurora borealis (the northern lights) have often been observed here, especially in winter. Many people enjoy winter walks and the changing light and sea-water levels. No one can walk on Lunan beach (at any time of the day night, or in any season) and fail to feel relaxed. The owners wish you to have a great family holiday, or group retreat. We will work with you from the booking time forwards; and we will be adaptable to the extent that we can manage. We are constantly maintaining and improving the property, and take great pleasure when we are able to know that our visitors are content and have all at hand that they need and reasonably want. If you plan to bring your own equipment or sports gear, cycles, etcetera, that is fine, and if you require storage we will do our best to help with this. We want visitors to come back again and to fall in love with Lunan bay and the wider area. Many previous visitors have done so! The location, in many ways, is unique. While it is rural and in a totally wonderful spot, detached as it is from the busy world, Lunan bay is not difficult to reach and is in easy vehicular reach of many great day-outings, sports facilities, historic sites and settings, and even shops and cinemas. Come and enjoy a wonderful relaxing break!

Gorgeous, spacious house and garden

The property was very spacious with well maintained facilities. It is about 1 minutes walk from the glorious Lunan Bay beach. The upstairs rooms had stunning views.

A few more cooking utensils would have been appreciated, but that is a very minor point and would only affect people who like cooking their own meals.

Great Accommodation in fabulous family Location!

Large house ideal which easily acccommodated 6 adults & 2 children. The 4 ensuite bedrooms and overall space meant we were very comfortable. Two minute walk over the dunes to Lunan Beach, walking through the forest to Inverlunan Water & across to the Castle - all perfect! We shall definitely return. Big thanks to hosts Andrew & Edi.

Owner's Response: Hosts Edi and Andrew enjoyed welcoming Carol and her family group. It was wonderful to see the visitors all enjoying their stay, including their youngster who was having an exciting time, what with the house being so close to the Lunan bay beach. I believe some of the adults played golf at some of the super golf courses in close reach of the property. We certainly look forward to welcoming this family again; they were great to meet and they left the premises clean and in very good order..thanks, Carol.

Between the dates of (the nights of) 01st October and 30th April, inclusive, a fuel charge of £0.50 per head per night (visitors) is charged. This is to offset gas and electricity which is used heavily during this period.

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
