About John and Tracy

We are a recently retired teacher and company director. We bought the villa from new and have enjoyed spending holidays here with our friends and families.

John and Tracy purchased this villa in 2002

Why John and Tracy chose Viñuela

We fell in love with the area of Lake Vinuela because of the incredible views and ever changing scenery. We also enjoy visiting Seville, Granada and Cordoba - all of which are within easy driving distance. We feel fortunate that we can walk to the best restaurant in the area - Miguel's is an institution. Los Romanes is an authentic and friendly Andalucian village with traditional village shops and bars with a welcoming feel.

What makes this villa unique

All our visitors agree that the villa has the most incredible lake and mountain views - it is a view that you will never tire of.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wonderful holiday in a wonderful Villa

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic holiday staying at Casa Juan and a large part of our enjoyment was down to the villa itself. It was homely with everything you would need, in a fantastic location with spectacular views.

We enjoyed a few outings during our stay and it was a joy to get back to relax and unwind in our home away from home.

The villa was clean and very well kept with the owners on hand if anything was needed.

We enjoyed a day trip to Alhambra, Granada. It was an incredible place to visit, easy to drive to and easy to find.

We visited Miguel's restaurant just up the hill, the food and service were excellent.

We had a resident orange/red dragon fly who kept us company by the pool, very pleased to see it found a friend for the last day of our stay!

Lazy days in the peace and quiet of Casa Juan and some outings to Nerja, Granada and Malaga. All in all a wonderful holiday enjoyed by us and we will be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the lovely comments and I am so pleased you had a wonderful time. The Alhambra is truly spectacular and only 90 minutes drive away, so I am pleased you were able to see it. The dragon fly has been a frequent visitor over the years so we are pleased to know nothing has changed!

A lovely spacious villa with an amazing view!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 3 have just returned from a lovely stay at Casa Juan. The villa was lovely and spacious and the various terraces made the most of the incredible view. My son really enjoyed the pool, which is a good size. The house was very well equipped and the directions made it easy to find.

The owner was very helpful and easy to contact with any queries and the villa information file comprehensive. We enjoyed trips to the beach at Torre del Mar and great lunches with a view at Hotel Vinuela and Periana. There's a lovely restaurant (Miguel's) 2 minutes walk away, and we also enjoyed barbecues at home and stargazing!

Definitely recommended for a relaxing stay in the sunshine!

Beautiful villa with stunning views.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 4 have just returned from our relaxing villa holiday at Casa Juan. Probably the best villa holiday we have had. Beautiful clean and comfortable villa with everything we needed. Amazing views every morning with a cup of coffee. Pool was a very welcome cool off and a big hit with the kids. Ample outside space for everyone. Plenty shade and lots of sunny spots with comfortable sunbeds and sitting areas.

Great service from John, Tracy and Team. Everyone couldn't have been more helpful. We would definitely recommend this holiday property to friends and family.

Amazing scenery driving around the mountains. Chez Spice is lovely if you like a curry, very friendly staff. We visited Eroski, great for the shoppers amongst us. Very good choice for all kinds of food and drink. Costa Torrox was good for a visit. Go early to park its a busy place. Nerja was great. Lovely shops and great atmosphere at the Balcon de Europa.

Casa Juan

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 2 weeks over the half term. It was our first trip to that (Axarquia) part of Spain, and we wanted to get an idea of what the area was like. It was beautiful, and we particularly liked the lake. Casa Juan was an ideal base for touring round the area, with a good access road, and plenty of amenities nearby, (of which the restaurant Venta El Charco and the local fresh bread bakery were standouts within easy walking distance). As part of our trip was about finding somewhere to buy, it was interesting to be able to compare the villa to many of the properties for sale. In particular we decided that a good lake view was a must, and this villa is superbly located in that respect, and for an outdoor lifestyle in general. The people we met (the neighbours - both ex pat and Spanish locals), were very friendly and could not have been more helpful. Similarly the owners were very lovely people and were very responsive to any questions we had over the period, as well as giving us useful tips about what to see and do, or point us towards people who could be helpful to us.

The villa itself was furnished to a nice standard, and for us proved to be an excellent base from which to get to know the area. There was TV and internet which was a welcome distraction for the kids / teens in our party, but the adults were mostly enjoying meals and drinks from the terrace, and the weather was good enough to be almost permanently outside. Overall we had a great time, and a big Thank You to John and Tracy for making our trip so hassle free.

Mooi huisje met goede voorzieningen

  • 4 of 5

The villa is ideally located close to local bars & restaurants within a short drive around the lake. It is walking distance from the pretty whitewashed village of Los Romanes and only a 5 minute walk to one of the best restaurants in the area - Miguel's (Venta el Charcol)

This is an authentic taste of the real Spain in the land of olive groves, almond blossom and rolling countryside. Yet it is not isolated, being just a short walk from the pretty village of Los Romanes, with its bars and restaurants and village shops. Alternatively, there are some typically Spanish bars and restaurants in the small whitewashed mountain villages such as Comares, Periana and Alcaucin nearby to explore.

A short 20 min drive takes you to the coast, a major shopping centre, Velez-Malaga the attractive capital of the region, and the bustling Spanish seaside resort of Torre del Mar with its famous fish restaurants and wonderful beach “chiringuitos” offering the local delicacy the “espeto” (sardines on a skewer) for just 5 euros!.

Further afield, Granada (visit the wonderful Alhambra), Seville, Cordoba and Gibraltar and Cadiz are all within travelling distance by car. Malaga, the jewel of the Costa del Sol with its fabulous museums, shops and tapas bars is an easy drive.
