About Sarah E

My family and I bought this property because we love Barbon, Kirkby Lonsdale and the surrounding areas and one day hope to live there! But in the meantime we wanted other people to enjoy it too. We are Cumbrian born and bred so feel free to ask any questions you might have about the area and we will try to help! Thanks - Sarah x

Why Sarah E chose England

Filled with charming original features yet fully modernised, Hilltop is in such a superb location. Barbon village is a real gem! The Barbon Inn and the Churchmouse Cafe & Deli are both fantastic establishments and there is so much to do without even getting in the car.

What makes this cottage unique

Beautifully presented (even if we do say so ourself) yet unstuffy, perfect for couples or families alike. Walkers, ramblers, cyclists, foodies and everyone in between will enjoy this cottage and the local area.

A wonderful house in a really special location. An ideal place to chill and enjoy the countryside. Every facility is catered for and you feel comfortable as soon as you arrive. Absolutely five star in every respect.

Good property, but Owners Direct information needs improvement

  • 5 of 5

Our first impression of the cottage was very good. It has been attractively renovated, has a fresh look and is nearly new. The lounge and beds are comfortable, and Barbon is a lovely village with good opportunity for walks.

Our problems were with the communication from Owners Direct. No information about access to the cottage was sent by email; it was not convenient to download an App; and access to the rental-specific information on the website was not possible: below "Click below to see everything you need to know about your Carnforth holiday" there was no link. Eventually, via the help line we got the owner's phone number. Sarah was very helpful in providing access and address details. Many thanks for the friendly communication.

Some small maintenance items are needed in the cottage:

- the shelf in the lower bathroom is wonky and needs to be secured with the bottom grub screws (we didn't have a small enough screwdriver to do this)

- at an outside temp of 2 deg C the cottage wasn't really warm enough without the wood fire alight. And for the first day it was very cold: it would help if the heating could be put on the day before arrival.

- the dustbin on the parking space had disappeared

- there is a problem with closing the kitchen window - maybe the hinge needs attention

- all the cutlery, plates and glasses needed washing before use.

- it would be helpful to show photos taken from both directions in the street, and to show the exact location on Google maps. We arrived at night, there is no street lighting, and it wasn't easy to find.

Overall, we enjoyed Hilltop Cottage, and would stay again in warmer weather.

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

Hilltop is a gorgeous cottage, very comfortable, with everything you could want at hand. Had a great night's sleep every night we were there, waking to beautiful views of Barbon & Casterton Fell. Ate at the Barbon Inn every night, just a couple of hundred yards from Hilltop - very cosy with log fire and friendly staff. They do a great steak with homemade chips!

Perfect experience of English village complete with walk to Pub

  • 5 of 5

It would be hard to improve on anything during our stay. Extremely comfortable home, in the village, yet very private with walled hedge. Walk to Pub, or to get to foot paths for very picturesque views of surrounding valleys and hills.

An immaculately presented character cottage in an absolutely beautiful location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a brilliant time in beautiful Barbon. Hilltop was a fantastic base for exploring one of the most beautiful areas of the country.

Had no idea what to expect from Barbon but we're thrilled to find it has everything any family needs for a great holiday. A great cafe/deli, a great pub, a playground for the kids and most of all a stunning backdrop of fells at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.... Heaven!
