About Rebecca

Working mother of two children. Enchanted with the French cuisine, climate and lifestyle we have embraced the local culture and have lovingly renovated a beautiful farmhouse and barn complete with heated pool.

Rebecca purchased this farmhouse in 2005

Why Rebecca chose Allemans

This lovely property was bought very much to be a home from home for our family and guests. After complete renovation work Les Vigneries Hautes became a very special place to base a stay in the Dordogne. The house stands proud enjoying uninterrupted stunning views of the surrounding valley and countryside.

Ideally located from Bergerac and Bordeaux Airport's with numerous local historic attractions and pretty market towns on the River Dronne we have found we are perfectly placed to explore the region.

Every one who comes to visit seems to enjoy their stay and want to return the next year if invited!

What makes this farmhouse unique

Our traditional farmhouse affords excellent rural views. Its location provides relaxation and privacy yet within easy reach of local bars, restaurants, shops, markets, vineyards and leisure pursuits.

Perfect house for relaxing family holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week here - 2 families with young children ranging from 6 months to 9 years. It's a great house for just sitting by the pool and watching the children amuse themselves in and out of it. Trampoline and lots of games were an added bonus! And the pool terrace has the most lovely views over the countryside - lovely backdrop to an evening drink or dinner on the terrace. The kitchen is luxurious and very well equipped. Loads to see and do in the surrounding area too.

Idyllic rural retreat with heated pool and lovely views

  • 5 of 5

It was the first ever rental at Les hautes vigneries and clearly Rebecca had put a lot of effort making sure that her family home was ready for guests. The house is down a long drive from a very quiet road with minimal traffic. Surrounded by open farmland with ample shade and we petty much spent the fortnight around the pool with the kids. It is expected that anything to do with the pool (apart from the daily leaf sweep) is done by pascal the pool man and he will come if any probs but he comes twice a week to check it.

There is a lovely big cool room at the end downstairs which we hardly used as we spent most of the time in the kitchen or outside. Lots of games and DVDs for the kids. The local TV wasn't very extensive (we didn't go to watch TV though). Cooking outdoors or inside was easy and a well laid out kitchen. We took a plug in ice box which we used as the fridge was slightly tight for 7 of us and the cheap local wine! Perhaps not everyone will have that problem...

Two good doubles and a twin on first floor and a lovely big attic conversion up some spiral stairs with it's own bath and loo. It was warmer at night but doors and velux open to get a breeze. The 3 children aged 3 to 5 had no problems with the spiral stairs.

There was a good file of things to do but we didn't explore extensively as to be honest it was just so nice to stay at the house without boredom or cabin-fever setting in. A great escape after a busy time for us all. The area is a popular place for Brits and I can see why. When we did get out we ate well and found some good lakes/rivers with beaches and pretty towns all pretty close by.

Overall a really great 2 weeks and we would recommend the house and wish Rebecca and her family great success.

Lovely, peaceful farmhouse in stunning countryside

  • 5 of 5

This farmhouse is an absolute gem and feels more like your own home than a rental property. It's spacious and peaceful, with a beautiful garden and stunning views. The garden is huge, so older kids have plenty of space to play football and run around. I loved the patio area because while it is large and great for sunbathing, there is also plenty of natural shade for keeping out of the midday sun (perfect for if you are trying to keep little ones out of the sun). The pool is lovely and a good size, deep enough for adults and older children, with nice gentle steps at one end that younger children can use to get in gently. There's a very nice shower room by the pool, which is particularly useful for giving kids that last shower of the day. We spent most of our stay outside, as it would have been a crime not to, but the inside of the house is equally lovely, with plenty of room to have your own space.

I definitely recommend this farmhouse for a relaxing, peaceful holiday.

Amazing house in a stunning location.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely old farmouse carefully refurbished , with an amazing vaulted barn extension / lounge and well set up kitchen. Outside is an idyllic rural setting with rolling fields. At night the star gazing is unbelievable , everything is so still and quiet that we all slept well every single night. The local town is mile away and has a patisserie and excellent pub/restaurant which has the best burger you will ever taste topped with local melting foie gras . Great family holiday.......

Coast/Beach:

Lake beaches are at St Aulaye (20 mins), Aubeterre sur Dronne (15 mins) and La Jemaye (25 mins) which has a large lake with sandy beach, safe swimming area with diving platform, watersports, café and children's play area. The coast at Royan is around a 2 hour drive.

Travel:

Flying into the area, you have a choice of four airports; the closest being Bergerac (50-60 mins), followed by Bordeaux (1 hr 30 mins), then Brive in the Dordogne Valley (1 hr 30 mins) and then Limoges (1 hr 40 mins). Driving time from Calais takes around 8 hours. If you're traveling by train the railway station at Angouléme is about 45 mins away and you can pick up a hire car across the road from the station.

Distances:

We are situated 10 minutes north of the market town of Ribérac, which holds a great, busy, farmers market on Friday mornings where you can buy locally grown produce, fish, meat and cheese. Aubeterre (15 mins) has a market on Sundays, whilst Chalais (30 mins) hosts a market on Mondays.

The property is situated in open countryside 10 minutes from Riberac, 30 minutes from Périgueux.

Bakery, pub/restaurant and local/regional produce store (jams, honey, syrups etc) all 2.4 km. Local town of Verteillac, 8 km with bakery, three cafés, four restaurants, butcher and grocery store.

All amenities in Riberac, a charming market town with café bars, restaurants, all shops and lovely market on Friday mornings. Two supermarkets.

There are small beaches on the river Dronne at Saint-Aulaye and Aubeterre where you can swim safely. Aubeterre is one of the show villages of France and has a farmers' market on Sundays where greens, veg, fruit and cheese can be purchased and the local butcher and baker are open until mid-day.

Chalais, about 30 minutes away over the border in the Charente, Chalais features the nearest visitable château which dominates the town. Vineyards are located here when wine can be tasted and then purchased. The market here is on Mondays, closing at mid-day.

Brantôme, 30 minutes, a lovely town with excellent restaurants. Canoeing available.

Le Grand lac Jemaye, 15 minutes from the property with sandy beach area, children's play-area, cafés and canoeing.

Périgueux (30 minutes). The département town of the Dordogne is situated on the river Isle. The old quarter is full of boutiques for a spot of retail therapy and it goes without saying cafés and restaurants. There are Roman ruins and several museums. The Cathédrale Saint-Front is very impressive, especially when viewed from the other side of the river. This was rebuilt in 1852 by the architect Abadie, who used the design as the basis for the more famous Sacré Coeur basilica in Paris. The church of Saint-Étienne-de-la-Cité dating from the 12th century is also worthy of your time.

Bergerac (approx. 1 hour). Though everybody has heard of Cyrano the hero of Edmond Rostand's play was inspired by the 17th century philosopher Cyrano de Bergerac whose name had nothing to do with the town. Bergerac is the tobacco capital of France as well as being the centre for the Bergerac 'brand' of very drinkable wines. The old town is very interesting with the riverside port originating from the time Bergerac was a link between the coast and the interior regions of the Auvergne and Limousin.

Saint-Émilion (approx. 1 hour). Very picturesque, giving its name to one of the most famous of the French wine areas. Naturally the main focus is on the wine trade and tours of the Châteaux and wine tasting can be arranged at the local tourist office. There is also another église monolithique to compare with the one at Aubeterre.

Cognac (approx. 1½ hours). Situated on the river Charente and owing its name to a prominent Roman, Cognac is a historic town which evolved and gave its name to one of the world's most famous eau-de-vie. Tours of the distilleries, where you can enter into the spirit of things, can be arranged at the local tourist office. Boat trips can be taken upstream to Angoulême.

Further Details:

Verteillac and Ribérac have a good tourist information office, chemist, tennis courts, rugby, open air swimming pool, and a small cinema, together with bars and restaurants. Open air music festivals/cinemas, night markets and fetes are also held regularly during the summer months. Local towns and villages offer a wide range of facilities including canoeing, horse riding, mini golf and walking. Bicycles can be hired at Ribérac.
