About Deborah

Castillo del Mar was a neglected taberna when we took it over, and after working with great local craftsmen & builders for almost five months, we refurbished and transformed it, added a pool, and it was complete to enjoy for holidays. My family and I have shared many wonderful times here and have many treasured memories of Castillo Del Mar and I hope you do too?

Deborah purchased this villa in 2006

Why Deborah chose Lanzarote

Castillo Del Mar is located in one of the few unspoiled fishing villages left on the Island of Lanzarote. If you want to experience the real Lanzarote and the true Canarian way of life, then choosing to stay here offers you just that. A simplistic lifestyle, where young and old come together in the evenings and in the daytime fishing and swimming in the cool Atlantic sea pools are an everyday way of life. The village is virtually unspoiled by tourism and is an ideal escape and somewhere to totally relax. From the local fishing boats to the local farmers who manage to cultivate the dry land and produce traditional Canarian potatoes. The unique sea swimming pools are an ideal way to cool off in the mid day sun as they stretch all along the shore line in the village. You can eat great tapas and drink local wines at (La Piscina) tapas bar by the sea pool and enjoy excellent food at the sea front restaurant 'Sol y Lunas'', especially the fresh fish! Palenki's Restaurant is another unique find, where locals gather and make their own music and evening entertainment, singing traditional Canarian songs. Enjoy staying in a traditional rustic fishing village and explore the rest of the Island at your leisure! If you decide not to hire a car, there is a bus service that runs through the village.

What makes this villa unique

Punta Mujeres is away from mass tourism, which means the prices are a fraction of other resorts on the Island. You can get a fresh coffee at the mini market for only one euro and a glass of wine at Paenki's Restaurant / tapas bar is only 1.50 euro. All the restaurants in the village offer fresh fish at reasonable prices compared to other resorts, which makes it great value and your holiday money goes a little further! Plenty tourist attractions are close to the village including the beautiful town of Haria 'Valley of Thousand Palms' only a short 5 minute car drive away in the mountains. Offering a great Saturday morning market selling local produce and crafts. Punta Mujeres offers you the unique experience of staying in a traditional Canarian village with all the necessary amenities within walking distance. There are three mini supermarkets all within walking distance. Not to mention all the beautiful walks that you can enjoy while staying in the village. One in particular takes you along the shore line and head land to the 'Jameous Del Agua' a very famous attraction on the Island. Watching the sun glistening on the sea as you sit by the ocean takes your breath away and makes Punta Mujeres a very special unspoiled jewel on the Island of Lanzarote.

February Escape

We really enjoyed our r&r in Lanzarote and the opportunity to get a quick hit of sunshine. We appreciated the extra

touches provided like the beach towels and the basket of goodies waiting for us on arrival. The apartment was everything that we anticipated - nice & spacious - and we felt that Deborah & Alain had a genuine desire to ensure that we enjoy our trip. Hopefully we may be back at some time in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the quality of the bed and clean bed linen. It's lovely to hear when guests appreciate how hard we work to have a high standard of cleanliness to arrive to in the villa. I suppose staying in the winter months is not always guaranteed to be pool weather, but many guests do use the pool all year round, as well as dipping in the sea!

Gorgeous apartment in tranquil surroundings

  • 5 of 5

I had the pleasure of staying in the 3 bed apartment with swimming pool, with a friend and my 2 year old little boy.

From the initial booking we received directions from the airport, places and restaurants to try, which was great as , Luna Y sol became our local. (definitely recommend lunch here)

When we arrived the apartment was spotless, very clean and fresh. There was a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived, which we thought was a great touch.

The pool area was also extremely clean, and we spent a lot of time by the pool and having dinner and drinks on the patio. So quiet and relaxing.

My little boy loved the pool and we were even supplied with a paddling pool just incase ,yet another great touch.

We had an amazing holiday, and will definitely be back. Thank you for all your help and will be recommending to friends and family . Xxx

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write your review for the 3 bedroom villa apartment. It sounds as though you all had a great stay and I'm delighted to hear you appreciate the cleanliness and little extra's that we leave for our guests, especially the private pool exclusive to the 3 bedroom villa. This used to be shared by the other studio apartments many years ago, but is now private to the villa, which works much better. Come back and visit us anytime!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Great to hear you thought the house is fantastic and just as described on the site and always good to hear you appreciated the cleanliness. The cleaning staff work really hard to keep the inside and outside immaculate. As you mention, if you want to get around the Island and see all the sights, a car is a good idea!

Lovely villa in a lovely rustic village. Ideal for peace and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

The property is set in a very quite rustic fishing village and is an ideal haven for peace and quite as long as you don't get noisey guests in the apartment above.

Our last 3 days were slightly dampened due to a family who liked scraping chairs along the floor and slamming doors in the apartment above. Apart from that our stay was really good.

Parking can be a little difficult at times and you may need to park further away.

The free WiFi is handy but quiet slow.

The villa is well equipped with everything you need and the supermarket is just up the road. Local restaurants are all very good with El Lago coming out on top....

The owner has always been very accommodating and helpful.

Thank You for helping us enjoy our holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and I'm delighted you enjoyed staying in the 3 bedroom villa with the private pool. Pity you hadn't of mentioned about noisey guests above you earlier, as I would have contacted them about it. Sometimes people don't realise, especially children, that moving the chairs around carries noise. Also there is usually plenty off street parking right outside, but the first two weeks in September is the village Musical festival and people come from all over to visit the village and evidently park anywhere. I am glad, though, that you enjoyed the villa and the pool as well as the local restaurants.

Fantastic place to chill out and unwind

  • 5 of 5

Clean and well appointed 3 bedroom 3 bathroom.

Everything you need should you wish to use the kitchen. Washing machine and ironing facilities if your mood takes you. All bedrooms en suite with showers. Pool area good with sun loungers.

On road parking is a bit hit and miss but it's a quiet one way road.

Supermarkets and restaurants within 5 minutes walk. Sea front also 5 minutes away.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and I'm delighted you enjoyed the 3 bedroom villa, especially the private pool, and made the most of all the facilities and enjoyed the rustic village. Around six years ago the pool was shared with the other apartments but works better being exclusive to the villa. There is usually plenty off street parking spaces right outside the villa, however, you hit on the annual Music Fiesta in the village of Punta Mujeres, always the first two weeks in September. This is the busiest time of the year for the village with hundreds of visitors from all over the island descending! A super music, food and drink festival, but all the streets get full of visiting cars!

Punta Mujeres is one of the few unspoilt traditional fishing villages left on the Island of Lanzarote. The village offers you a change to be away from mass tourism and the madding crowds and situated next to the lovely village of Arrieta, in the district of Haria. Although a quiet village, restaurants, a tapas bar by the sea and three mini supermarkets are all within walking distance. The tranquil setting and pace of life will allow you to totally unwind and get away from it all.

There are several good restaurants in the village, 'Lunas y Sol' fresh fish restaurant right by the sea (daytime only), Palinki's traditional restaurant / tapas bar, (great for steaks), El Lago, fish restaurant, en route to Arrieta and a tapas bar in the centre of the village by the sea. (A must visit to experience the ambience of the locals and sample their homemade tapas and wines) As well as mini supermarkets, cafes and a delightful pizza parlour. The famous Jameous Del Agua is close to the village and it's possible to walk to it along the head land. Saturday morning markets are very popular in the delightful town of Haria which is a short drive away in the hills. Sample local organic produce and crafts as well as traditional music.

Natural sea swimming pools, unique to Punta Mujeres, run along the shore line throughout the village (safe for children) and very therapeutic. The nearest long sandy beach is around 2klm in the village of Arrieta with a tapas bar right on the beach and play areas for the children. The beautiful white sands blown over from the Sahara, have formed beautiful beaches situated near to the village of Orzola, (around a 10 minute drive north from the property). The hidden lagoon is among them, and if you want to experience total tranquillity, well worth a visit. A lava fall out formed a safe lagoon with warm still waters, ideal for snorkelling.

Visit the local Aloe Vera houses in Punta Mujeres, where you can sample and purchase the unique properties of the plant that grow on the Island.

Walkers & Cycle Paradise: This part of the Island is very popular for walkers and cyclists.

For the more adventurous, take a walk up in the hills to Haria then drop down to the west side of the Island to Famara with it's long stretches of beautiful sandy beaches with breath taking views.

One of the most popular tourist attractions, 'The Mirador Del Rio', is in the district of Haria, offering stunning views of the Island of La Graciosa. Or try a visit to the amazing Cactus Gardens in the village of Mala, again a short drive away from Punta Mujeres. Offering thousands of species of the most amazing flowering cactus.

Golf details: The nearest golf course is situated in Costa Teguise, around 15 minute drive away. A beautiful 18 hole course with immaculate greens, buggies available and a friendly restaurant.

There is plenty to see or just simply chill & enjoy the Canarian Sunshine.
