Overview

About the property

Traditional 3 bedroom cottage within 5 minutes of Rock, Polzeath & Daymer Bay

Willow Cottage is a charming; traditional, stone built cottage in the tiny village of Tredrizzick. It truly is a hidden gem, being tucked away in a quiet and peaceful location and yet within a few minutes drive of the beaches at Rock, Polzeath and Daymer Bay. It sleeps up to 6 comfortably in 3 bedrooms: one double, one twin and one with bunk beds. It has a good size, cosy sitting room with a wood burner, TV and wifi; a dining area leading off the recently refurbished kitchen and a lovely garden with outside seating and a brand new barbecue.

Up to two well behaved dogs may be accepted (but please check first) and there are extensive walks over farmland leading from a footpath just beyond the cottage. From here you can walk across the fields to Daymer Bay, passing St Enodoc's church on your way. The village square where you can park your car is at the bottom of the garden.

Rock is renowned as one of the major water sport centres in Cornwall offering sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, canoeing and rowing. Daymer Bay has recently been voted one of the best beaches in the world and with its beautiful golden sand, rock pools and calm waters is ideal for small children and also popular with windsurfers. At low tide you can walk along a vast expanse of sandy beach from Rock to Daymer Bay (dog friendly all year round) or if the tide is in you can walk along the cliff path through the sand dunes and the famous St Enedoc's golf course past the tiny 13th century church of St Enodoc where Sir John Betjeman is buried. Polzeath beach is acclaimed as one of the best surfing beaches in the country. It is bordered by rock pools and with its huge expanse of sand is very popular with beach enthusiasts of all ages.

There is a very good pub within walking distance of the cottage and there are excellent shops a two minute drive away in Rock. This is a very 'foodie' area and there is a great selection of cafes and restaurants offering everything from simple meals to fine dining in Rock and the surrounding area. There is a ferry which runs regularly between Rock and Padstow where Rick Stein has both his famous restaurant and a cheaper fish and chips one. The Camel Trail which is great for walking and biking starts and ends in Padstow.

Golf is available at St Enodoc, Roserrow (winner of the GolfMark Club of the Year 2015) and Trevose.

The Camel Valley Vineyard whose wines won 3 gold and 9 silver awards in 2015 is a 20 minute drive away at Nantstallon and offers tours and tastings as well as having a shop.

There are some beautiful gardens worth visiting in the area within an easy drive, including Pencarrow, The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

About Fiona Melville

I live in Wiltshire and my family and I have been visiting this part of Cornwall since the children were small nearly 30 years ago! It holds a very special place in our hearts and it has been a long held dream to own a property down here. As soon as I saw Willow Cottage it was love at first sight and I feel privileged to be its current owner as of March 2016. It had been in the previous owners' family for nearly 40 years and I am very aware that the love and care they lavished on it have helped to make it what it is today. It has been, and still is, a much loved second home and not just a holiday rental property.

Fiona Melville purchased this cottage in 2016

What a Fabulous Place !! A Fantastic Find and a wonderful week at lovely Willow Cottage !

  • 5 of 5

Having found the property details on the website, we arrived at the cottage and were not disappointed. It started prior to our booking with a query to the property's owner, Fiona, regarding us being able to bring our two large (but very friendly) Italian Spinone Dogs, Lucca & Enzo. Having been disappointed previously by other cottage owners about the non acceptance of two dogs, we found Fiona was very accommodating and gladly allowed them to stay with us. She was also able to give us a bit more information about the garden enclosure (which I must say was lovely, safe and fully secure), so no need to worry about them escaping.

We arrived in Tredrizzick to beautiful sunny weather (a bit cold, but we were prepared - it was February after all). The cottage is lovely. Well placed within the village, just a short trip into Rock. The downstairs has all you need, a well appointed cozy living room with log burner, a well equipped small kitchen and separate utility area, off the dining room. A large dining table to seat 6. Upstairs was equally well proportioned. A double bedroom, a twin room and a single room containing bunk beds. Ideal for a family set up. To arrive to all this really set our week off to a flying start. Rock and Padstow are within easy reach (20 mins walk down to the beach and ferry across to Padstow) or 5 mins by car. What a wonderful beach at Rock, and when the tide is out, you can also walk around to Daymer Bay.

I would also say that the cottage location is a great base for exploring further afield. We visited both North and South coasts, heading to Caerhays Bay, Fowey, Polzeath, Watergate Bay and had a magical day at Tintagel following in King Arthur's footsteps.

We ate well, with some great eateries right on the doorstep. For pub grub there is the welcoming Pityme Inn (5 mins walk from the cottage), with the Rock Inn and Mariners Inn (Nathan Outlaw) in Rock itself well worth a visit. There are obviously many other places in the area and that's half the fun, finding them for yourself.

All in all, we had a wonderful stay. The cottage was clean, warm and welcoming. The information provided by Fiona beforehand was very accurate, along with the useful tips to enhance our stay. The only downside was that I had to leave Willow Cottage and return home.

I finish by saying that I would highly recommend a stay here, it suits a family and dog owners alike. I cannot wait to have the time to return. Thanks Fiona.

Kevin & Emma Llewellyn.

Nice traditional cottage but feels a little small to be classed as a six berth!

  • 3 of 5

The cottage was generally OK, cosy and traditional lounge, but one of the bedroom's was a little too small compared to other cottages we have stayed in. We are a family of four, the kids are now teenagers and need a room each. One of the bedroom's is a small box room with a bunk bed so you cannot see the window or move around outside of lying on the bunk bed, suitable more for younger children. Other bedrooms were absolutely fine. The box room would be better with just a single bed in it. Cottage has a lovely garden and the location is great to be honest, small quiet village, good local pub. It's a few miles walk to Rock but we liked the location and the closeness to local beaches and resorts. Overall it was a nice cottage, but just a little tight on bedroom space for four people. I think this cottage would be small for six people!

Lovely and comfortable cottage

  • 5 of 5

We spent the Christmas and New Year's holidays at Willow cottage with our dogs and have had a fantastic time. The cottage was very clean and tidy; it is lovely, cosy and comfortable and the enclosed garden was ideal for the dogs. The dogs loved the daily walks at the beach in Rock and Daymer Bay. The owner was extremely helpful and really lovely, could not do enough for us, thank you very much.

A lovely cottage with everything you could need for a great stay.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is beautiful and very comfortably furnished with lots of useful information and equipment for every eventuality. We stayed for three nights to attend a family wedding during Storm Brian and were glad of a warm and snug cottage to retreat to out of the gale force winds! We appreciated the efficient heating and comfortable beds and also loved the paintings decorating the walls. I would highly recommend Willow Cottage to anyone.

Just gorgeous!

  • 5 of 5

Gorgeous cottage, we all had a marvellous holiday. The cottage is very well maintained and has everything there for you - a great kitchen , very comfortable sitting room and the beds were all comfortable. The garden is very pretty and the bbq is great. The position of the cottage makes it very easy to get around the local area and we spent lovely times walking at Daymer bay, surfing at Polzeath and having fun in boats at Rock. A dream holiday for us all (ages 45-11!!)
