About this property

Lovely house with large garden & private pool in heart of Minervois

Until Covid-19 hit and I my bookings were affected, I was one of the top holiday homes in the area of Carcassonne on HomeAway, regularly placing at number 1 or 2. I was also a 'Premier Partner'. However, all this hard work has been lost!
This is a beautiful stone built semi-detached house. Around 200 years old in the village of Azillanet. There's a large garden (400m2), private swimming pool (8m x 4m), stone terrace and dining area and a spectacular old fig tree with a swing. The garden is south facing, so catches the sun throughout the day. The property has been sympathetically restored and tastefully furnished, retaining its original burnished oak floors and beamed ceilings. 3 large bedrooms, (one with a ladder-staircase & under-eaves sleeping), a newly refurbished bathroom and a superb open landing area are upstairs. Air conditioning has just been installed in 2 of the bedrooms. Downstairs there's another bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and a generous living-dining space. Beautiful views of the village and countryside can be seen from the garden and all upstairs rooms.
The village boulangerie & cafe, 3 wine caves and two local restaurants are a few minutes stroll.

It's great to cycle through the vineyards surrounding the village. Walking and hiking trails also surround the village. Lake swimming (Lac Jouarres) is 10 min drive away, fantastic river swimming is within a 20 min drive (Agel). A supermarket, banks, cafes and other shops are only 5 minutes away in Olonzac. The fabulous Cathar village of Minerve is the next village, just over 3km away and the Unesco world heritage site of the Canal du Midi is about 5km away. The beaches of the Mediterranean are about a 35 minute drive and the old walled city of Carcassonne is a 25 minute drive. The nearest airports are Carcassonne and Beziers (40 minutes), Perpignan (1hr), Montpellier (1hr 15min) and Toulouse (1hr 45min).

A beautiful home in idillic surroundings
We had the most wonderful holiday in Suzanne’s property. Everything was exactly as described (the only thing we couldn’t find was the first aid kit). Suzanne was very easy to communicate with both before and during our stay. The house is set in tranquil surroundings and I am very much hoping to go again! Absolutely loved it.

Azillanet
Beautifully restored stone cottage with an excellent saltwater swimming pool, ideal for kids. Well equipped throughout and very comfortable. Air conditioning in the two main bedrooms, though not the top floor bedroom which was very hot for the children during our visit. Beautiful area with plentiful wineries to visit and history / culture in abundance at Minerve and Carcassonne. Do take precautions against insect bites, especially mosquitoes which were a regular menace during our stay!

Fabulous property in a tranquil setting
The property was perfect for our family of four. It's beautifully decorated and furnished, and had everything we needed. We only used the bedrooms on the first floor, where the air-con was a major bonus. Beds very comfy too. The saline pool was fantastic - very gentle on eyes, skin and swimwear. Azillanet is a lovely, typically sleepy French village. Sadly, when we visited in July, there were no open restaurants. That said, there are quite a few good eateries in the area and we can highly recommend the little van which visits every Tuesday evening and sells delicious wood-fired pizzas!

Family getaway in south france
Me, my wife and 4 kids decided to holiday in France this year as flying somewhere works out so expensive, so we decided to give France a chance. We had a long drive from Calais, but stayed over in la souterraine on the way which is around 6 hours from Calais and then a further 4 hours from azzilanet. The directions given by Suzanne were spot on and we found it with no problems at all. The villa was exactly as described. Azzilanet is a very quiet sleepy village, where not much happens, so if your looking for nightlife and busy bars, then this isnt the place for you. The pool was great with a shallow and deep end, the only disappointment was that you lose the sun around 6pm because of the trees overlooking the property. There are lots of flies, wasps and mosquitos when we were there, which was very annoying and stopped us sitting outside in the evening time. The villa itself is very hot with no air con, which was very uncomfortable in the evening and night times. There were fans in the villa that helped cool you down, but it was still unbearable at times with temp at night around the mid to late 20s. The villa has everything you need for it to be a home from home, the communication from Suzanne was excellent and she always answered promptly and nothing was ever a problem. The villa on the surface was clean, however there were quiet a few cobwebs in the living areas and hallways, which hadn't just occurred. The light in the downstairs hallway had a bulb missing, but wasnt that inconvenient as we left the light on in the downstairs bathroom. Oliver who cleans the pool was great and was on hand to help and assist with any issues with the pool. This is a semi detached property, but we hardly saw the neighbours in the 2 weeks we were there. The sun beds need to be upgraded and they are broken and tired looking. There is lots to do around the area, I would recommend... Minerve, olnazac market. Have a bite to eat in the evening beside the canal in trebes. Carcasomme castle is a reasonable priced day out as well as walking around the city. Australian park is a great day out for the kids. Narbonne plage is a great beach and a more tourist area. Narbonne city is also good to walk around with plenty of shops. We found France very expensive for food shopping and to eat out if you have a family of kids. The villa is a great base and a peaceful environment and we really enjoyed our stay in France and will defo be coming back.

This is a lovely house and pool in a gorgeous part of France.
This is a pleasant house with pool to cool off when the weather is hot. If you want a quiet rural french experience with good wine to buy, places of interest and coast nearby, then you should definitely consider staying here. The owner Suzanne was always quick to respond to questions and recommended places to visit.
