Overview

About the property

A luxurious family property close to lac Vassiviere beach resorts and ammenities

Nestled in the rural splendour of the Limousin country side. Artin Sec is situated on the top of a stunning valley and overlooked in the far distance by the Spire of Saint Martin Chateau. The views are Spectacular and the setting offers both privacy and tranquillity. The property is thought to date back to the early 1800’s and has been extensively renovated over the past 10 years to provide a luxurious but authentic holiday experience for our guests. We have retained many of it’s original features but added all the modern amenities that you would expect in 21st century living and made every effort to provide the detail and creature comforts our guests would expect from a premium holiday rental.

OUTSIDE and for the sun lovers amongst us we have over 250 MSq. of decked area extending the width of the South facing gardens which captures the sun for the best part of the day. The sizeable above ground pool is conveniently located next to the rear of the property and decks so you’re only a hop skip and a jump away from a refreshing dip.

If your preference is relaxing in the shade and away from the midday sun, we have a range of covered spaces to while away the day including our most recent addition, a fabulous thatched gazebo which is connected to the property via a decked boardwalk. Needless to say that sun downers on the gazebo are a common theme to our stays in this magnificent pied de terre. Sun loungers, Hammocks, Giant bean bags, deck chairs and a wealth of outdoor furniture is available for your comfort as well as a wood fired pizza oven and three charcoal BBQ's.

INSIDE you will find six beautifully appointed double bedrooms featuring traditional furniture and some modern additions for convenience. The main suite includes its own private bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath a wall mounted TV and king-size bed. Bathrooms and wet-rooms are all located a few steps away from either the main living spaces or the adjacent bedrooms. The property also has a large farmhouse kitchen which is appointed to a high standard and includes all the necessary utensils for the budding chefs among us. Secondary is the summer kitchen which also has a range of fitted cupboards, oven, fridge and small seating area. Living and dining areas are accommodated in three separate rooms, the largest measuring over 850 Sq Feet with two sofa's, 50inch flat screen TV, surround sound and a range of period floor standing furniture.

Whilst every effort has been made to provide an array of entertainment for the maturer members of the party, we have also focussed on the smaller members of the crew providing lots of outdoor and indoor fun. Having children ourselves we realise that occupying our children means a happy time all round so you will find plenty of ball games, toys, puzzles, books, an infants bouncy castle, swings, a paddling pool and a Nintendo Wii with a selection of favourites for all age groups.

AWAY The magnificent life guarded beach resorts of Lake Vassivierre are a mere 10 minute drive from this property and offer an abundance of outdoor activities with truly spectacular views to boot. The lake is a ‘must see’ and caters for all age groups and abilities, kayaking, boat rental, volley ball, incredible walks and cycle rides are all to be had as well as tree top adventures and remarkable hand crafted children’s adventure playgrounds. Food is also available from your regular french fries, pizza, salads and crepes through to a’la carte dining. For animal lovers a superb Donkey sanctuary is located a brisk walk away and offers Donkey trek adventures for an hour or up-to 1 day. A great hit with our kids!

The pretty lakeside village of Peyrat le Chateau is a 4 minute drive away for your morning croissants and provides a selection of restaurants and bars as well as a couple of small supermarkets, a pharmacy, butcher and the all-important bakery for fresh artisan bread and pastries.

We consider ourselves truly blessed to be able to share our holiday home with others. It has been a project 10 years in the making but what we have created we consider to be the perfect rural bolt hole for families and couples alike. Its a warm and friendly retreat surrounded by strikingly beautiful scenery. The place truly comes alive when our family and friends visit us and has in the past been the place of many great memories.

About The Owner

My wife and I fell in love with the un-spoilt rustic beauty of the Limousin in 2004 and embarked on a painstaking hunt for the perfect rural bolt hole. In 2006 we discovered Artin Sec nestled in a valley and overlooked in the distance by the spire of Saint Martin Chateau. Our offer was accepted and we have never looked back. During the following 10 years we have lovingly restored the 5500 SQ Foot Farmhouse and added some Luxury to boot. Our objective was to make our holidays here both peaceful and relaxing but with the added bonus of occupying our children so the whole family would never be short of an activity or two.

The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 2006

Why The Owner chose Peyrat-le-Château

Artin Sec offers privacy, luxury and convenience. It is located centrally to many great attractions but also offers a self contained holiday venue for those who seek a bolt hole from the tourist melee.

What makes this farmhouse unique

5500 Sq feet of living space, Luxuriously appointed, Private grounds, spectacular views, vast sun terraces, above ground pool, Wood fired Pizza oven, BBQ's , hammocks, giant bean bags, thatched gazebo, conveniently located for local amenities and the beach resorts of Lake Vassiviere.

Beautiful very well presented large property

  • 5 of 5

Artinsec is very close to Peyrat le Chateau, a small town with an excellent boulangerie, a Spar shop with a great meat counter and a couple of bars. A little further away are Eymoutiers, a market town with a large Casino supermarket and Bourganeuf, which is full of history. Just over an hour from Limoges, the property is large, beautiful and set in lovely countryside. The house was extremely well presented, very clean and comfortable: the owners clearly care a lot about the house and their guests. One feature is a very large and well equipped kitchen, with everything provided (even a paella pan!). Everything worked well throughout the house and in the gardens, including an above-the-ground pool and a wood burning oven. It was so comfortable and relaxing to be outside, lazing on the extensive decking that runs most of the length of the back of the building. Nearby Lake Vassiviere has a number of beaches, water sports and walking trails. We had a great time and look forward to returning next year!

Wonderfully relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

Three families, 6 adults and 6 children (7 to 16yrs), spent a week at Artinsec at the end of August and had a fabulous time.

We wanted for nothing, everything is provided from paella pans to the washing machine - home from home with extra luxury and French charm. It is right in the middle of rural France, which is what appealed to us, and the views are spectacular from dawn to dusk.

We spent our days lazing on the deck, playing rounder's and Kubb and of course taking a dip in the pool. Evenings were spent sitting around the numerous tables available both inside and out, eating and drinking and playing games. We made use of the BBQ's and the children had great fun making pizza's to bake in the pizza oven followed by fire on a more chilly night.

Out and about we visited Lake Vassiviere and enjoyed pizza as the sun set, there are plenty of activities we would have liked to have done at the lake a week just wasn't enough to fit in everything we wanted to do. Arben d'arben (Go Ape) was fantastic - as many previous reviewers have said, so much better than UK equivalents and very reasonably priced. Peyrat de Chateau is a short ride away and some of us visited the Resistance Museum in the village, small but interesting and incredibly moving. The bakers and SPAR in Peyrat de Chateau are great and the local black pudding from the butchers counter in the SPAR was delicious. We also visited a local waterfall on our travels, able to see Artinsec from the one road that can be seen in the distance, and frequented the supermarche a couple of times to top up the wine stores!

The house has been renovated and refurbished with care and has been developed into a perfect holiday home to cater for all. It was lovely to meet Martin and Clare as we arrived, they really have an attention to detail; the house was immaculate and everything well thought through. I would not hesitate to recommend Artinsec as a holiday location with friends or extended family and despite vowing to never return twice to a holiday destination I would definitely consider a return trip.

Lovely house for a big group

  • 5 of 5

We had two weeks in lovely Artinsec in August, we were a party of 12, 3 families with 6 children between 18 months and 4 years old.

The house was ideal for us, plenty of space inside and out, stairgates and the a gate access to the pool made our lives a little easier! The outside space was ideal as again it was gated so the kids could play on the decking safely. We heard the wild boars and saw a few deers!

The village of Peyrat de Chateau is 3 miles or so away, it has a nice bakery and a deli as well as a couple of cafe bars and a nice pizza place for an evening meal. It really is a picturesque village.

The butcher at the Spar in Peyrat is really good. We had a couple of BBQs and even lit the pizza oven one day to make pizzas for the kids (not a massive hit to be honest!) and a big piece of sirloin steak (from the Spar!) for the adults (huge hit!)

We had a few days out at Lake Vassiviere which were great, nice sandy beaches, great parks right on the waterfront and nice beach side dining. We went on the pedalos one day which went down well, the road train onto the lake vassiviere island was good, there wasn't much on the island (a cafe and a couple of shops) and the kids got fed up, but its worth a visit, even if you get the train straight back. There's a lot around lake vassiviere for older kids which we didn't try, but the floats activity looked great!

Back to the house, it really has everything you need and more. There is loads of space. It is in a very rural location, but this was part of the charm.

We had an amazing time and hope to return soon.

Holiday August 2017

  • 4 of 5

Even with eight adults and seven children (10 and under) the house was more than adequate to give us all plenty of room, plenty of bathrooms and a good amount of eating areas. Not only was The house very well equipped in all respects, plenty of China, cutlery, and glasses, with two large fridges and a good washing machine. Itwas very clean and the house has been beautifully restored and is far more impressive in real life than it appears in the photos. The area was beautiful and the lake wonderful for the children. Our only minor criticism would be that there was no microwave and with a baby that would have been useful. The pool is slightly smaller than it looks in pics but proved big enough for us.. it has been a very relaxing holiday the views from the house are magnificent and we would definitely think about returning.

Week at Artinsec July 22nd 2017

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week at this gite from 22-29th July 2017 and had a great time. The gite is huge, with 2 kitchens and three dining areas. The weather was cloudy frequently (which is quite unusual for France in July in our experience), however it didn't dampen our spirits! From the large decked area we saw a family of wild bore, deer and foxes on several occasions in the very next field. We would recommend at least one day at the nearby Lac Vassiviere. We did paddle boarding, water skiing and were towed along at great speed on a large inflatable, all in one afternoon without any advance booking! The charges were all reasonable too (6 euro for half hour paddle boarding, 15 euro for 10 minutes water skiing and 25 euros for 3 people on the giant inflatable for 10 minutes, which was more than enough!). Tennis courts are available to book there for 6 euro per hour, but there's also one that's free and equally as good on your way into Peyrat from the gite (on the right hand side once you've turned left after the donkey sanctuary). It's hidden quite well behind some tall hedge.

The Wednesday morning market at Bourganeuf was good. Particularly if you're after cheese (at least four stalls), fresh fruit and veg (largest peaches we've ever seen and really juicy too), and sugared/dried fruits (looking forward to trying these now we're back home).

The nearest small town is 5 minutes away (Peyrat le Chateau), which has a well stocked SPAR with petrol station. On Tuesday evenings from 5pm Marco's pizza van stops on the square/car park in the centre of town, opposite the tourist information and boulangerie. He offers a choice of around 20 different pizzas, all thin crust and 12 inch, from around 9-15 euros, plus cold drinks. We took ours up to the picnic tables by the fishing lake in town and did some fishing while we ate and drank on a nice sunny evening. The lake contains carp, tench, roach, pike, zander and trout. We managed to catch a 3-4lb carp, 2 small tench and several roach, but no large pike or trout alas! (although we did see several large fish breaking the water while we were there).

For those who like to dine out Chez Julie in Nedde (around 25 minutes away) is worth considering. We went there for lunch one day. The menu is decided on the day so be prepared for little choice! However, if you like most foods then you'll get a nice, inexpensive meal (13.5 euros for 3 course lunch plus cheese and coffee) in an informal, family friendly atmosphere.
