About this property

Spacious and luxurious barn with stunning views

Penny Barn was recently converted from a shippon, or cow barn, on the former Duchy of Cornwall dairy farm of Botternell.
Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and only 5 minutes from the World Heritage Site at Minions on Bodmin Moor, there are stunning views from the house up to Twelve Mens Moor above, down across the beautiful Lynher Valley below, and on a clear day right across to distant Dartmoor.
Outside there are several seating and dining areas from which you can enjoy the views, or have a relaxed meal or barbecue.
Upstairs in the house there's a master bedroom with kingsize bed and en suite shower room, plus a double and a twin room, both of which share the large family bath/shower room.
Downstairs there's a large kitchen where everyone can gather to eat round the refectory table, an even larger sitting room with comfortable sofas around the woodburner and a large flat-screen TV. There's also a cosy and sunny "snug", with a second TV, and a luxury double sofabed if required. And finally, the games room with table football, darts and various garden games.
From the house there are a variety of fantastic walks, either up on the wild moor above, or down in the beautiful river valley below. Within a few minutes drive you'll find the old mining engine houses at the World Heritage Site of Minions, the Hurlers standing stones, Sterts open air theatre, beautiful Golitha Falls, and a variety of trout and even salmon fishing on the Lynher or Tamar rivers, and at Siblyback Lake.
Further afield, within 30-40 minutes you can reach the surf beaches of North Cornwall, or the quiet fishing coves of South Cornwall, the Eden Project, various National Trust properties such as Lanhydrock and Cotehele, or the history and culture of Plymouth.
All in all, Penny Barn makes an ideal base from which to explore everything that both North and South Cornwall have to offer.

Stunning location
A fabulous location, far reaching views and very peaceful. 3 good sized bedrooms and plenty of living accommodation for the family. Good sized kitchen. My preference would be to clear out some of the cupboards, lots of left over cleaning materials and food which got in the way and left little space to store our own. Otherwise a great spot if you want to explore the North and south coast. As long as you can brave the cornish lanes! Thank you for sharing your home.

We had a brilliant holiday staying at Penny Barn. Very spacious and homely barn. Lots of local walks, country pubs and 30 min drive to either North or South coast.
