About the property

The Treehouse is a modern, luxury, 4-bedroom holiday home close to the beach

JULY DISCOUNTS: We've reduced the prices on our last two remaining weeks of the summer. These discounts apply to the first and third weeks of July 2018.

The Treehouse is a luxury house located in the heart of the idyllic village of St Mawgan, close to Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth beaches. This large 4-bedroom family home has recently been renovated. For your stay you can expect to find it finished to a high standard with modern decor and furnishings.

This impressive cedar-clad holiday home offers guests luxury and comfort. The house offers reverse living with the open plan living room, kitchen and diner plus hallway and cloakroom toilet occupying the first floor. This floor boasts large corner windows with fine views over an orchard, across the village to the surrounding hills. There is a log burner for use of guests with free logs supplied.

The modern kitchen is connected to a raised terrace area overlooking the garden via a set of patio doors. There is a flat screen television with connection to Internet TV apps and channels. Free superfast broadband is available throughout the house via WiFi and Ethernet ports.

Downstairs there are 4 bedrooms with space for eight people. There is a kingsize double room with en-suite shower room via a walk-through dressing area. There is a second double room with a double bed, another large room with twin beds and a small room with a single bed and pull-out trundle bed. The trundle can be moved to the master room if a third bed is needed in there! There is a large family bathroom with bath, shower and shaving socket.

The Treehouse is situated in half an acre of garden, filled with and surrounded by trees. This lovely garden has several grass terraces, as well as a large, flat decking area perfect for relaxing or evening barbecues. There is a child's playhouse in the garden, slide and rope swings. There is a rough fire-pit and log circle for families who love a bit of forest school as well as plenty of spots for den-building!

The property has a large drive with ample parking for up to three cars. The village pub and shop are just a short walk down the hill.

Mawgan Porth beach is 2.5 miles away and can be accessed via a public footpath that winds through woodland and follows the river to the beach. The beach at Watergate Bay is only 2.5 miles away - or 5 minutes by car. Both Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay are great surfing beaches.

Eden Project is about 25 minutes drive away. There are loads of top quality golf courses nearby. Keen walkers will enjoy the South West Coast Path.

A bus service passes through St Mawgan hourly following the main beaches to Newquay and Padstow. Padstow is 20 minutes drive away.

About Elliot Walker

We're a beach loving family who have made Cornwall our home.

Elliot is his own boss, working in digital marketing after a career in London working as a travel producer for Virgin.net. Eugenie worked as a Montessori teacher in London and now works at the local school as a teaching assistant.

Their two children, Mia and Chloe are both at the village school too.

We escaped London 13 years ago to make Cornwall our home. We ran a boutique surf B&B for 5 years before our children came along so we have a good understanding of what our guests are looking for when they come and stay in Cornwall.

We like to spend our time at our favourite beaches in Cornwall and are all members of Crantock Surf Lifesaving Club!

Elliot Walker purchased this house in 2008

Why Elliot Walker chose Mawgan-in-Pydar

Eugenie's great-grandfather fell in love with St Mawgan in 1904 and declared it the best village in Cornwall! However, it took a further three generations for his family to settle here. We fell in love with the village for the same reasons. There are walks in the woods, fantastic hikes to Mawgan Porth beach and Watergate Bay, playing Pooh sticks over the river by the post office and of course the great Cornish beers at the pub!

What makes this house unique

Our house has a story to tell. It was owned by a lay-nun and her family from the 1950's. In fact, the huge fir tree by the main deck was the family Christmas tree planted out in the early 50s!

The garden sits in half an acre of wooded area and needed two weeks of tree surgeons when we first moved in in 2008 to enable us to get into the garden and actually see how big the garden really was! The house and garden slowly emerged as we terraced and cleared the area to create a fun place for the kids to run around and have adventures in! Our kids love splashing around in the stream at the bottom of the garden on the other side of the stone wall.

Over this last year, the house has evolved from a pebble-dash bungalow into the cedar-clad home you see today. We designed the new house to make the most of the natural light flooding in from the garden and to bring the outside in.

There is a great village shop, post office and cafe (rolled into one) only 5 minutes walk past the Elizabethan convent and the pub. The cafe and shop sell fabulous Cornish cream teas as well as the obligatory pasties and all the bits and pieces needed for your stay. Over the river, or through the ford, there is a great playground and village green. From the house, you'll hear the sound of cheers and the thwack of cricket balls every Sunday afternoon throughout the Summer.

One of the things we love most about the house is the fact that we are very close to the centre of the village but due to our location the house feels secluded and restful. The perfect opportunity to relax and de-stress!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We all loved this wonderful house, children and adults alike. The huge open plan living room with wooden floors, wood burning stove and floor to ceiling picture windows looking into the valley, is a beautiful and tranquil place to sit and relax, cook and eat. The room also has sliding doors onto a wooden terrace with another table overlooking the garden.

The house is an upside down house with living area at the top, and bedrooms on the floor below, along with another much larger terrace for bar b q-ing or lounging. The bedrooms are simply and tastefully done and sleep 8 people. There's a good sized family bathroom and the master bedroom has an ensuite. The house is very well designed, with an excellent, large utility room for doing washing etc, or hanging up beach towels to dry, with another entrance to the house on this lower level.

We were 3 adult and 3 children ( age 10 and 12) and a small well behaved dog (by special permission from the owners). The children adored helping make a fire in the fire pit at the bottom of the garden in the evenings after brilliant days on nearby beaches of Constantine Bay, Watergate Bay, Holywell Bay and Mawgan Porth.

We had amazing weather for our stay, but we all said that even if had been raining we would have still loved being in the house.

The house is in a very pretty village of St Mawgan, near the church and stream. There is a village shop and post office with cash machine, and we had a nice meal in the Falcon Inn one night.

The house is perfectly placed for day trips to Eden project or St Ives. We went to Tintagel and Padstow, but the weather was so good we went to one of the nearby stunning beaches every day.

Congratulations to Eugenie and Elliot for creating such a wonderful home for a Cornish holiday. We would highly recommend it and would love to come back again.

Fantastic holiday home

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely week at the Treehouse (despite some patchy weather). We are huge fans of St Mawgan and very much enjoyed our first stay at this property. The living space is bright and airy, the gardens are lovely and the views from the top floor are easy on the eye. Big ticks all round.

Fantastic house, fantastic location, fantastic owners

  • 5 of 5

This gorgeous modern, well-equipped house was spectacular - from the views across the valley, the way the house is furnished, and the details - good wifi, sky TV, phone charging station etc. to the location - they have now finished the A39 road across the top of Bodmin moor so access is made much easier. It is in a lovely little village, not far from Padstow and the great beaches of Watergate Bay and Morgan Porth, and there are excellent restaurants around - Scott & Babs' is a great experience, Jamie Oliver's Fifteen is just down the road, and there's Pastow of course (we were disappointed by Rick Stein's - book well in advance if you want to give it a try). And the owners, we only dealt with Eugenie, were so helpful and generous that that was an unlooked for pleasure. We couldn't fault this great house and can't recommend it highly enough. If you were surfers (we aren't) it would be seventh heaven, with great surfing beaches just down the road. Superb.

A very special place

  • 5 of 5

This house is as lovely as it looks. We were there with four (big) teenagers and the space is not only ample but really easy to co-exist in. No-one falls over each other and yet you are all together. It is somehow very calming and the views are beautiful.

Practicalities: there is a good area at the entrance with lots of space for the stuff you need to dump - bags or boots etc. There's a separate utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer. And while the house was perfectly equipped for our party and felt "grown up", it was clear that it would have been a very easy stay for families with young children too - the garden, particularly, is a small person's dream!

There is internet tv so we enjoyed the odd movie together.

And St Mawgan is delightful. There's a great pub just minutes' walk away, and a really good village shop, with a tea room attached - sounds very old fashioned but it's not! Good food and great coffee!

Mawgan Porth beach 40 mins walk. Infrequent bus service from St Mawgan to beaches but Newquay airport in walking distance and regular buses from there if you don't want to drive.

Eugenie is enormously helpful and always on hand should any problems or queries arise.

Really, a very lovely place to stay.

Great house , gardens , well equipped. The area for brilliant quiet beaches is second to none . We had 4 adults and 4 children, and we didn't feel on top of each other. The local pub has great home made food , and the staff are super friendly, great for kids . Mawgan Porth beach and the all the coves north are real gems . All have good surf and rock pools something for everyone. We had a fantastic holiday, I'm sure we'll be back !!!!

Stunning house and location

  • 5 of 5

We (6 adults and 2 children) stayed at The Treehouse over New Year and had a fabulous time. The house is stunning with amazing views over open countryside and is literally a 5 minute stroll to the local pub The Falcon. The house is well equipped and has the benefit of a log burner, which created a beautiful ambience in the evenings. The house is very spacious and never felt over crowded. Elliot and his wife were very efficient and accommodating, allowing us to take our small dog with us, which helped to make the weekend even better. It is possible to walk to the beach which takes around 40mins, but it is only a short drive to numerous stunning beaches. We had an amazing weekend and would definitely recommend The Treehouse to others. It definitely has the wow factor. !!

Just a short walk or drive to the Cornish coast and the beaches of Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth. These beaches are great for surfing and have surfing lessons through professional surf schools. the surf beaches of Newquay such as Fistral Bay and Crantock are just a 20 minute drive away.

There is some great walking to be enjoyed along the South West Coast Path. There are also some lovely footpaths to explore in and around St Mawgan, through the Lanherne Valley and beyond.

The towns of Newquay and Padstow are just a short drive away. Here there are plenty of fabulous shops, pubs and restaurants. For quality dining experiences, try Rick Stein's in Padstow, Jamie Oliver's Fifteen at Watergate Bay and many others along the coast.

With its proximity to the airport and its position in Cornwall, St Mawgan makes it a great base for exploring other areas of Cornwall too. Cornish highlights include the Eden Project, Minack Theatre and St michael's Mount; plus the lovely tourist towns of St Ives, Falmouth and Padstow.
