About Angela Bell

I am a retired University lecturer who like Folk music, Badminton and walking

Why Angela Bell chose Langton Matravers

This property was completely rebuilt in 2015 but has plenty of character combined with a fully-equipped modern kitchen and huge bedrooms and bathrooms.

I moved to Purbeck 20 years ago because I have a particular interest in Thomas Hardy, the novelist and poet, and this is 'Hardy Country'. For many years, I was on the Thomas Hardy Society Management Committee and gave lecture tours of Thomas Hardy locations in Dorset.

What makes this house unique

There is a lovely view from the rear of the property onto the hills beyond. The private cul-de-sac is mainly traffic free, running parallel to the busier main street through the village centre and thus secluded and quiet. There are many walks from the front door to the hills or coast, plus local sandy beaches to enjoy.

Fantastic house in an amazing location

  • 5 of 5

The host was welcoming from the start and had left us all the essentials to get us started. the home was fantastic and spacious and finished to a very high standard. it was perfect for us to relax in and enjoy and we would definitely stay here again.

The location was perfect with stunning walks and views as well as a very short drive to Swanage and Corfe Castle.

Both our families had an amazing weekend away in this wonderful place and I would recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely lovely. Everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay.

The facilities are brand new, the log fire really warms the house and everything is really comfortable. Just what you need for a walking weekend in the countryside! There is a pub just on the corner of the road and the coastline is a 20mins walk away. Angela was very helpful throughout. we would stay again.

Spacious and comfortable with everything you need!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous break away in this beautiful property! We could not get over how, even though there were eight of us staying, we all felt as though we had our own space. Angela was efficient and helpful, and we loved the little extras she left for us! I cannot recommend this property highly enough, and as an added bonus, the pub down the road is within easy strolling distance and very good indeed. We will definitely be returning for future stays!

Car: recommended

DIRECTIONS: FROM WAREHAM drive on the A351 to Corfe Castle and once through Corfe take the B3069 right up to and through Kingston, along the ridge road to Langton Matravers. At the village after the primary school on the left, take the next right (Durnford Drove) and then immediate left into East Drove. Woodbury is half way down on the right. FROM THE SANDBANKS CAR FERRY take the Ferry Road through Studland village and then follow signs to Swanage. Along the seafront turn right onto Victoria Avenue, then High Street, then after a mile the left turn onto B3069 into Langton Matravers. After the church turn left into Durnford Drove, then immediate left into East Drove. Woodbury is half way down on the right.

In the heart of the Purbeck countryside; it is a 5 minute drive to the National Trust's Corfe Castle, Studland and Swanage beaches. You can easily walk to SW Coast Path. It is a quiet cul-de-sac but it is only two minutes from the local pub, shop & bus stop. It is a lovely walk to the famous Square & Compass Pub in the neighbouring Worth Matravers and the World Heritage Jurassic Coast and Visitors' Centre in Kimmeridge. There are numerous very good local restaurants including The Pig on the Beach (in Studland) and Shell Bay Restaurant which sits by the Studland Ferry and looks out over Poole Harbour and Rick Stein over the ferry in Sandbanks. There is also the open air Restaurant near the Pier in Swanage, Gee White's, which has a panoramic view of Swanage Bay. There are many pubs and cafes in Swanage and Corfe Castle.

Local attractions include the steam train that runs between Swanage and Corfe Castle.

As well as the sandy beaches at Swanage and Studland where you can go kayaking and paddle boarding, there is a newly opened water park near Corfe. A pirate ship, the Moonfleet, offers trips and training in Swanage bay. Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Weymouth, Abbotsbury (Swannery and Subtropical Gardens), Golden Cap, Lyme Regis, Monkey World near Wool and the attractions of Poole and Bournemouth are all a day trip away, as well as - at a push - the New Forest National Park. The Purbeck area itself, the setting for Enid Blyton's Famous Five novels, has a multitude of great walks and on and off road cycle rides, National Trust areas, beautiful beaches, forests, hill and down views, heathland and, of course, the World Heritage Jurassic Coast with The Southwest Coast Path running along its entirety.
