Overview

About the property

Simply one of the best all year round properties in the town

The Lighthouse is a unique architect-designed property on four floors overlooking St Ives harbour and the surrounding coastline.

As soon as you set foot in the property, you will feel you have entered another world entirely. Furnished in 1950's style, with colourful artwork and rugs in each room, and the ever-changing views from each floor, The Lighthouse offers its guests something different from the average holiday home.

Our house sleeps four people, in two bright bedrooms, each with a double bed, basin and plenty of storage, with views out to sea, and to the bay.

A curving blue spiral staircase leads to the Retro kitchen, with its authentic American Diner set and Smeg fridge, a generous modern shower room, utility room with second loo, and the fabulous living room which opens onto the spacious balcony.

Watch the boats bobbing in the harbour, and the seals and marine birds circling around Crab Rock just below. You may even see a pod of dolphins passing through the bay.

The Lighthouse stands conveniently between Porthminster Beach, with its famous Cafe and safe bathing waters, and the town itself. The many shops, galleries, and restaurants are all within an easy, level five minute walk. Beautiful, small Porthgwidden Beach and the excellent surfing Porthmeor Beach are equally accessible, and there are superb Cafes on both beaches.

The Property's unique and central position on the seafront makes it a popular all year round destination.

Parking in a near-by private space can be arranged by the owners if you contact them directly at a cost of £49/week.

Free Wifi is available, and mobile reception is good.

Children over 12 are welcome.

Sorry, we can't accept pets due to the layout of the Lighthouse.

About Michael Millward

We have lived in St Ives for over six years, though Mike used to visit Cornwall as a child. Some things never change, and the lovely beaches and town remain as beautiful as ever.

Living by the sea is always interesting and exhilarating, and though we still love to travel, coming home never fails to excite us.

Michael Millward purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Michael Millward chose St Ives

We chose the Lighthouse due to its location and layout. It stands proud on Crab Rock, four floors high, each floor offering something a bit different, yet each floor boasting amazing views across the harbour, and towards Godrevy Lighthouse and the coastline beyond. We wanted to find somewhere extra special in town, and hope our guests (and also our family and friends) enjoy their stay as much as we've enjoyed creating our home from home.

The retro style and bright colours reflect the beautiful natural colours of the seascape outside, and we chose the authentic 50s furniture to complement the curved shapes of the rooms on each floor.

Finding The Lighthouse and turning it into a labour of love has been a really satisfying and enjoyable process for us both.

What makes this cottage unique

With its curved, blue spiral staircase and circular rooms, The Lighthouse is unique both in its modern architecture, and in its striking position on Crab Rock.

Despite its central position, once you're in the house, you somehow feel you're away from it all, as the waves lap directly beneath the windows, and the vastness of the sea and the skies extend to Godrevy Lighthouse and the horizon beyond.

The spectacular, ever-changing views from every room at the front of the house are a constant source of enjoyment.

The Lighthouse has a spacious balcony where guests can enjoy the stunning sunrise every morning. This is the perfect spot for bird-watching, or simply gazing out to sea. The colourful fishing boats, returning to the harbour after a day's work, are often followed by a flock of seabirds, and a couple of seals. Dolphins can sometimes be spotted in the distance, and body or stand-up boarders, sailors and the occasional brave swimmer are often to be seen just beyond Crab Rock.

If you can wrench yourself away from the view, the town is on your doorstep, and the beaches are all within a few minutes' walk. You can even forget about your car, and use the local train or bus (both stations are a stone's throw from the property) so that you can explore some of the spectacular Cornish villages and attractions.

Notes:
St Ives is a beautiful seaside resort which offers visitors plenty of activities: sea kayaking, paddle boards, surfing, body boarding for the active, and museums, galleries and shops for everyone. There are excellent restaurants and smaller cafes within easy walking distance of the Lighthouse. Don't forget to explore the surrounding areas, with St Michael's Mount, Land's End, the Minack Theatre, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project, Mousehole and Lelant Mining Village all within 45 minutes' drive. Open top buses operate in the warmer months, and the local train allows those without a car to access most of Cornwall. If you prefer to watch the world go by in St Ives, do so on one of the many stunning beaches, or in a Cafe along the harbour front or on Fore Street. Step outside and explore. Then shut the door behind you on your return, and you will feel in a world of your own.

Our stay at the Lighthouse.

  • 5 of 5

We loved the quirkiness of the Lighthouse with it's spiral staircase and the views were spectacular. The welcome pack was a lovely touch and much appreciated. We have been going to St Ives for the past five years ever since our eldest son moved there we love it as a second home, we have stayed in many cottages in St Ives but the Lighthouse has to be one of the best and we would recommend it to anyone. A big thank you to Carol and Mike for being amazing hosts.

A little Gem

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in The Lighthouse over Christmas, it was fabulous. On arrival we were treated to a generous welcome pack including 4 delicious Cornish scones with jam and clotted cream, just what we needed after a long journey from the Midlands. The accommodation is in a stunning location of St Ives with views from every floor. We were Lucy enough to see seals on a daily basis from the balcony and bedroom window and watched dolphins twice within our week swimming in the bay.The house has a very warm and inviting feel to it , it is beautifully kept and is equipped with everything you need for your stay, You are a very short walk away from shops, galleries, pubs and plenty of restaurants offering great food. The beaches are superb, when the tide is out you can even clamber down the rocks and onto the beach from the Lighthouse, our children loved doing this. A wonderful week had by all.

Quirky, well-kitted out with stunning views

  • 4 of 5

Great location though a hair-raising pedestrian packed narrow street to negotiate through by car to drop off your gear. Don't be confused by the name. It's not a lighthouse, rather a house full of light with a narrow open metal spiral staircase over 4 flights. You can't move barefoot from 1 floor to the next - worth remembering if a visit to bathroom needed in the night!

These negatives didn't spoil the holiday and I thoroughly recommend staying here - just useful info to know however if you're portly and unfit like me! Carrying your gear up to the top bedroom is character-building and wipes out enough calories for your first clotted cream tea.

Wunderschöne Ferienwohnung direkt am Strand

  • 5 of 5
