Overview

About the property

Vaha or "oasis" reflects the villa's peaceful garden and aquatic setting

In the quiet residential area of Kalamar Bay, Villa Vaha is a charming, detached home set within mature gardens with a secluded spa pool and lots of spots to find sun or shade throughout the day. Above the pool is the spacious dining terrace, leading from the split level lounge, diner and kitchen. Above this are 2 double bedroom suites, sharing a generous sun balcony and on the top floor is another suite with a very private balcony. Pool, dining and main bedroom floors are also linked by external spiral stairs. Terraces, balconies and principal rooms have commanding bay views and are west facing, perfect for sundowners. Bedrooms and lounge are air-conditioned, with fast wi-fi throughout. The lounge has satellite TV and DVD if you tire of the massive library. Full set of dining furniture inside and out; fully equipped kitchen; sofas, chairs, ottoman area, sun loungers, towels...Nearest beach club under 5 minutes walk, nearby hotels with large pools (available for a few lira or a couple of drinks)and nearest restaurant yards away. The old town is about 5 minutes by car (25 on foot), bus stop around the corner. Kalkan has great little shops, a massive range of eateries (including many roof terrace diners), bars (catch up on Sky Sports) and even a couple of discos. Magaluf it is not - Kalkan is for the more discerning traveller! The vast Patara beach (complete with amazing ruins) is a 10miles/20 minute drive; 5 miles/12 minutes to the unique Kaputas beach, from which Kas is another 20 minutes assuming you don't stop to gawp at the vistas from this spectacular corniche. A destination in its own right, Kas is a jumping off point for boat trips to the sunken ruins of Kekova. Plenty of boat trips from Kalkan harbour too, next to the town beach. Lots of other day trips close by for adventure, culture and sampling local delicacies. The Dolmus can get you anywhere for next to nothing, whilst taxis are inexpensive if you don't fancy driving. Dalaman airport is about 90 minutes away.

About Martin Ward

I am English and my partner, Nathalie is French. We live in Southsea, Portsmouth and have been visiting Turkey for 20 years - we think it's fabulous and safe. We really like Kalkan because it is just a bit off the beaten track so visitors are not just here for sun and booze (although they are plentiful). The setting is splendid and the people are lovely. Tourists are valued as well as valuable. The villa is managed by our local agent Alper, who speaks excellent English and is dedicated to providing an excellent customer journey.

Martin Ward purchased this villa in 2015

Why Martin Ward chose Kalkan

Over countless trips to Kalkan we thought about buying and had considered Patara Prince resort and the Eagles Nest in Kisla, across the bay. In September 2015 we stumbled across this property, home for an English couple for 12 years. We fell in love with the whole ambience of the place; it has a particular charm and felt as much like "home" as "holiday". Frankly, it is not a short walk into Kalkan centre but it does have everything you need close by whilst the hubbub of the old town is a few minutes drive away. It's an oasis...

What makes this villa unique

It's our dream villa: surrounded by several well-defined outdoor spaces to relax (a mature garden, 3 large balconies, a traditional Ottoman den and a quirky pool with views). It is also a villa with a certain Turkish character, located in the old part of Kalamar bay. The nearby beach clubs and available pools, the small cafés and restaurants offer a variety of services. We fell in love with Kalkan years ago, but now tend to stay around a quieter and airier Kalamar bay.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in the middle of the night not really knowing what to expect. The pictures were great on the website but would that be as it really was ? We needn't have worried. It is an amazing villa. Decorated to a very high standard but also very traditional. It is very close to the local and best beach club and to the local restaurants. Kalkan town is just a five minuet drive away. It's a really lovely villa highly we highly recommend it.

Fantastic, and relaxing home from home.

  • 5 of 5

Tranquil location and home from home. Really comfortable beds, and nothing was to much trouble from the owners / representative. Really clean and had everything we needed. The small touches, decor and homeliness was appreciated in villa vaha. We were brought bread every morning by the bread man which was really welcomed.

We were a family of 5 with two 16 year olds and a 7 year old. The facilities were good, and plenty of room for all of us. The location was fantastic right near Kalamar beach club which we frequented regularly. The local hotels were hospitable and allowed us to swim in their pools for no fee.

Villa vaha was close to all amenities but in a quiet location. The books in the villa were amazing and would definitely like to go back without the kids.

The old town was very easily reached and a boat trip is a must from old town harbour. We opted for a petrol Manual car but if we were to go again think we would need a diesel automatic to cope with the hilliness of the area.

Everybody around both in restaurants, hotels etc were are really pleasant and hospitable.

A true home away!

  • 5 of 5

First I would like to thank Martin, the Landlord of this beautiful home, his agent Alper and the swimming pool caretaker Mehmet.

They truly delivered an exceptional quality of service.

Martin provided us in advance with all the information of the local area and maps required to navigate us to the location of the house.

Alper was always a phone call away from anything we needed and always responded immediately even in the late hours.

Mehmet cleaned the pool daily every morning and was thoughtful enough to leave us with fresh bread every morning for our breakfast.

The house is well located however a car is necessary with less than 5 min drive to the centre. Kalkan is a peaceful town with lots of great shops and restaurants to check out, especially as you walk down to the harbour. I would really recommend the boat tours and quad biking! You can find a few tour companies about, they all offer similar packages.

The house is very clean, fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Several balconys to enjoy the amazing views! The house is full of nice features so as not to spoil anything it's best to discover them on your own.

The swimming pool although not big was just right for us.

We were on our honeymoon but because the house was so lovely we really felt like we should have asked our family to fly over and join us! We've already recommended it to them actually.

The crazy thing is we wanted to write this review within the first few days we arrived there. Its really difficult to write without over selling it but the truth is it really was that good! We are definatly thinking of revisiting someday. You can really get away there and relax.

We wish Martin all the best and hope everyone who visits his home has great experience like we did.

Jafar 😁

Lovely villa with real Turkish feel

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from 8 nights at this villa. It was pobably the best holiday accommodation we have ever stayed in. Everything about the villa was perfect with lots of touches to make it homely.

Will definitely stay here again.

Gorgeous villa with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

Everything was exactly as stated in the listing. The owners have clearly thought about the needs of their visitors. The owner also arranged a welcome pack which was much appreciated as we arrived late at night. The kitchen is well equipped with crockery, pans, utensils and glasses it also has a great big fridge which was very useful. The property is beautiful, clean and well maintained, the pool guy also turned up daily. The views from the balconies are stunning and there's plenty of room to laze around on each level. The large outdoor table is a great place to have a meal and take in the views. There's also an inside dining table should you need it. The bedrooms are spacious and airy, they had air con but we didn't need to use it. There is seating around the plunge pool which is just the perfect chill out area. The wifi even worked well. There is a really good restaurant literally around the corner from the villa and plenty more in the nearby town. There's a hotel at the bottom of the road with plenty of sun loungers and access to the sea. As long as you buy a drink they are happy for you to use their facilities. The food is good there too. We went on a boat trip from the harbour on the Sea Bella Junior. It's a family run business with the mother providing all the food which was amazing and really good value.

I will definitely be looking to return to this area again and would 100% look to book this villa.

A beautifully furnished house with panoramic views

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in Turkey via Dalaman and hired a car for the 1.5 hour drive to the villa. The owner had provided excellent instructions and we arrived to find a beautifully furnished villa set on a slope.

The property has 3 separate terraces each with a wonderful view of the bay. Everything you will need for your stay is in the villa and the nearby town has some excellent restaurants or if you want to stay at the villa and enjoy the view from the terrace you can order a takeaway.

The town has a pretty harbour with lots of boat trips on offer including diving if you wish. We really enjoyed our day trip on the gulet which also provided a brilliant Turkish lunch and afternoon Turkish tea.The weather for our week was around 28 degrees every day and if you want to cool down, the beach is not too far away or you can jump in the plunge pool.

We had a great time in Kalkan and will hopefully return sometime soon.
