About the property

An Idyllic 16th Century Country Farmhouse Set In Rolling Dorset Countryside

A lovely Grade II listed farmhouse set in 17 acres of rolling countryside near the pretty town of Beaminster. Sleeps 13, with sitting room, dining room, kids playroom, Aga in the kitchen, chickens and ducks in the yard, and a tree house, zip wire and trampoline, plus opportunity for circus skills. 15 mins from the Jurassic coast and beaches, walking distance from the village and award winning restaurants.

The kitchen is large, with original flagstone floor, seats 8 easily with room for more tables, and has a 4 door Aga, and masses of cupboard space, this leads to a cosy kids playroom, stacked with toys and a TV(DVDs only). Hall is flagstoned and has a loo with washing and drying machines, leading to the dining room. This is flagstoned with a wood burner, large fireplace, baby grand piano and dining table seats 12-14 people with room for further table. This follows onto another hall, entrance to garden and patio area, another loo and the sitting room, which has Tv/Sky/Wifi large fireplace, woodburner and original features. There are 2 sets of stairs in the house to the first floor, carpeted, where there is a kids bathroom (smaller) with shower, bath and loo, a very big bathroom (bath, separate shower, and loo) 3 double rooms, one single room and one room with twin beds and a dressing room. Up some wooden steep-ish steps is the attic area, where a large playroom, with double futon leads into a pretty double bedroom. Wantsley is a comfortable lived-in family farmhouse, not a chic hotel or rent-only house. We live here most of the year, except for August, Christmas and occasionally Easter.

About Charlotte Booth

I'm a jazz/cabaret singer, ex-actress and Aerialist instructor, and something of a coffee nut, so there is always very good coffee to be had here! I am married to a photographer and have two small slightly noisy, but adorable boys. We have converted an old barn into an aerial silks studio and photographic studio so we now run circus and photography camps from home. We love to travel with packs on our backs to distant lands with adventure in mind, but love nothing more than walking through the beautiful Dorset countryside we're so lucky to live in. Theatre, books and swimming are what make me tick, when time from running a busy family allows that is. We have a pretty relaxed and laissez faire attitude as befits life in the countryside.

Why Charlotte Booth chose Broadwindsor

This is just one of many similar reviews we have had:

'Charlie and Tim's farmhouse is an amazing place for a big family holiday. Everyone in our party was thrilled by the sheer amount of space, both inside and outside the house. The hosts are very generous in sharing the contents of their fabulous home and there's plenty to do in both good and bad weather. The lawn is perfect for cricket and football, the rope swings and zip wire kept the kids amused and we enjoyed feeding the chickens and tracking down their eggs (rarely in the nesting box). Inside there are lots of toys and games as well as relaxing space for adults. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped with a warming aga (useful for a British summer), there's multiple bathrooms (with very soft towels) and the beds are very comfy. Despite the rather rainy weather we had a lovely few days here. Bridport, West Bay and Lyme Regis are all nearby and Beaminster is very pretty. I would thoroughly recommend this house for a memorable family holiday'

What makes this farmhouse unique

It really is a chance for children to run wild and do all those things you often only read about in novels. For adults, you have the remarkable freedom to walk for hours in uninterrupted countryside without seeing anyone other then sheep, rabbits and birds (and the occasional deer) and if it rains, you can still lose the children in the house and manage to have a quiet corner to read a book or play the piano. It quite simply has a terrific vibe about the house. Its a happy place to be.

The Farmhouse was everything promised and more. A beautiful setting in acres of garden and pasture, woods and streams. The farm itself was extremely comfortable and tastefully furnished with emphasis given to every aspect of real family life - great kitchen and Aga, comfortable sitting and recreation areas, great bedrooms and bathrooms - immaculate yet immediately felt like home from home. Charlie, Tim and the boys made us extremely welcome with a very informative handover and a wonderful information pack with instructions on every aspect of the house and activities, restaurants, markets, shops and amenities in the area. Positioned perfectly for the beaches at West Bay and Chesil as well as all the amenities of Bridport, or a walk across the fields that surround the house. During our stay the house was full of kids and adults and offered every entertainment and distraction in both rain and sun. There was never a dull moment. Brilliant for families or friends looking for either adventure or a quiet and relaxing escape. We will be back again and again.

Incredible homely farmhouse with all you wish for!

  • 5 of 5

From the moment of booking- Charlie and Tim were both welcoming and informative in all that this incredible house has to offer! I booked this house with my family (5 adults and 4 children) and could not have wished for a better place to stay! The space inside and out was fantastic. So much so that I constantly got lost for the first 2 days!!! The four children aged between 6 months and 7 years had a total blast here- particularly finding chicken eggs, putting the ducks to bed, playing on numerous homemade swings and zip wires, bouncing on the trampoline and exploring the playroom and music room! There is enough room to hide away and watch tv by yourself in the additional lounge and enough fab toys to entertain all. The aga took a bit of getting used to but now we are home , we are fed up with the gas hob. The bedrooms are all spacious and well equipped , not to forget the lovely big bathroom! The lovely thing about this house has to be the relaxed feel and homely touch, something you rarely experience in a large rental property! We found wonderful beaches at west bay, Hive beach and Lyme Regis! Only things to add would be curtains in the big bathroom and master room (bathroom) as felt others could see in ) and a loo in the upstairs bedroom. I have to say that I woke up on the last morning of our stay and looked out of the bedroom window onto the stunning back garden and shed a tear- sad to be leaving such peace and quiet and luxury! Thank you for making our holiday fab!

Great house for a big group in a lovely setting. Very much a lived in house, towels etc need upgrade

  • 3 of 5

Fantastic big house with loads of space for 10 people. Owners extremely friendly and helpful. Great grounds. Very much a lived in house with very well stocked kitchen but could do with more and better glasses and upgrade in crockery, especially mugs, many of which are chipped. Towels have seen far better days and really need improving. Sofas in living room could definitely do with an upgrade. Walk to pub is quite challenging 25 minute cross country (not advisable after dark) but worth it for good food once you're there.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your constructive feedback. Yes I think you're right a couple of our towels could indeed be fluffier, will address. We should probably just leave 14 good mugs and put our everyday much loved ones away, we just thought the more the merrier when it comes to cups and crockery, but point taken. The sofas are so comfy and in decent nick we can't bear to let them go, agreed it's not a hotel quality sofa, but then we're not a hotel :). Wantsley Farm is very much a comfortable lived in family farm house, not a Babington House chic hotel.

Magical idyllic country house

  • 5 of 5

A gorgeous house, every bit of our stay was absolute luxury, from the spotless and beautifully decorated bedrooms to the fabulous main bathroom! A huge kitchen with a lovely Aga and fresh chicken eggs every morning from the hens in the garden! Just the most beautiful location, rolling hills all around, and a huge and wonderful garden. Absolutely a five star getaway - I would recommend this to anyone!

Dogs are not allowed upstairs, and must be OK with free range chickens and ducks. There is a holiday cottage on the property a little way from the house, which sleeps 4 people and might be rented out, those guests have access to the outer garden and fields of Wantsley, we would ask you to respect their privacy, and they yours.
