About the property

Gable Cottage is a pretty 250 year old two bedroom cottage in historic Wraggs Row situated on the ancient Roman Road, the Fosse Way. Its Architectural and historic significance have been recognised by English Heritage by giving it a grade 11 listing With exposed beams, low ceilings, flagstone floors, and gabled bedroom window, it is full of original character and charm but now has all the comforts and conveniences of modern day living, such as central heating, a modern kitchen with AGA and a new contemporary bathroom.

With 2 double bedrooms, Gable Cottage has luxurious accommodation for 4 people. An extra folding bed can be put up in the main bedroom for a 5th person if required. In the modern kitchen, the new AGA makes cooking a real pleasure, as well as radiating a cosy glow 24 hours a day, even in the depths of winter. Of course it is not really necessary for warmth, as the whole cottage is centrally heated yet its comforting warmth will make you feel at home Neither is the AGA strictly necessary for cooking, as the kitchen is fully equipped with a mini electric oven, microwave, and the benifits of a washing machine and a dishwasher. From the lounge a narrow staircase leads up to the two bedrooms on the first floor Don't be concerned if the walls seem to lean at strange angles and the floors seem to slope in every direction, its just the 18th century timbers gently settling in The main bedroom has a comfortable double bed and there is room for an extra single bed if needed. The other bedroom has luxurious twin beds that can be put together as a super-king double if requested in advance

The contemporary bathroom opens off the landing on the first floor with toilet, basin and shower over the bath

A private and sunny sheltered courtyard with garden opens off the kitchen and dining room perfect for summer barbecue.

There is generally parking outside the property for one car on the slip road directly off the main A361 but this at busy times can sometimes be taken There are other public car parks within walking distance The A361 offers easy routes to many Cotswold villages such as Bourton on the Water, Burford, the Slaughters, Northleach and Chipping Campden

About The Owner

We have lived in the Cotswold for nearly 30 years and have just retired to Devon. Our main interests have been showing ponies with our granddaughter winning many top awards and showing at the Horse of the Year show The ponies are now retired and live locally at Bampton

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2016

Why The Owner chose Stow-on-the-Wold

We fell in love with this charming cottage as soon as we saw it and it is perfect for visiting the many beautiful Cotswold villages. Also being with walking distance of Stow with all its individual shops, pubs, tea rooms and restaurants

We often visit our family who live locally and use this lovely cottage ourselves

What makes this cottage unique

The old worlde character, and the warm cosy welcome every time we walk in the door

Had a wonderful experience staying at Gable Cottage. We were provided with everything we needed. Comfort and relaxation. It was a great base for exploring the Cotswolds with our beloved dog. Restaurants and watering holes all within a minutes walk.

Warm and Welcoming Cotswold Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had such a comfortable and relaxing three day winter Cotswold getaway at Gable Cottage. It was perfectly located for exploring the many beautiful surrounding Cotswold villages and the cottage was warm and welcoming when we returned. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Christine and her neighbour were on hand to help us when we locked ourselves out (entirely our own fault!) Thank you for making our stay so comfortable. We loved it!

Gable Cottage is a warm, cosy property, at a convenient walking distance from Stow, and near to all the beautiful Cotswold villages. We were particularly impressed with the kitchen and the comfortable beds. The welcome wine and cake was a nice touch. We would heartily recommend it.
