About the property

House & Cottage in Riberac, Dordogne, France - Sleeps 2-13

Set in 4 acres of its own grounds surrounded by fields and rolling hills in this beautiful peaceful part of the Dordogne, 5km from the popular market town of Riberac (with it's famous Friday market), Moulin Bertrand (Property 6513718) and The Bothy (Property 6513724) offer quality, well equipped holiday accommodation for 2 to 13 people, available combined at a discounted rate or available separately.

Each property is decorated to a high standard with antique style furniture and original features to retain character and a distinct French feel, but with all the comforts of home.

Both the Moulin and Bothy have separate entrances, private terrace, BBQ area and garden views, with spacious living accommodation and ample facilities for indoor and al fresco dining. There is a large swimming pool with shaded terrace and games area, all set in 4 acres of well maintained gardens surrounded by streams and the original mill race.

A restored Walnut Mill, Moulin Bertrand is a comfortable home from home, in part dating back to 1600, with all modern facilities without losing its traditional French character or history.

Le Moulin provides a holiday home with extensive accommodation. There is a spacious lounge with wood burning stove which spans the depth of the house, well equipped dining room and large kitchen with machinery on display from when the house was a working walnut mill (no longer operational). Upstairs, there are 4 bedrooms (2 double, 1 twin, 1 triple with bunk beds and single bed) and unusually 4 bathrooms, 3 of which are en-suite, all with views over the garden or mill race, and none overlooking or overlooked by The Bothy next door.

The house is decorated throughout with polished wooden floors and furnished sympathetically with locally sourced furniture and antiques.

There is a private terrace to the front overlooking the garden with the pool positioned to the rear of the property. There are plenty of trees to climb and wildlife to the stars at night, in this area with no light pollution, are amazing!

About Hayley Kinlan

We live in England and have been coming to Le Moulin since 2005 with our two boys, then aged 5 and 3. Restoring both properties has been a labour of love (and expense!) but we were determined to maintain their character and history. Once a working walnut mill then saw mill, there is evidence of this in the equipment and tools on display. Having finally finished the restoration work and found a fabulous local lady who oversees the properties for us to make sure everything is in place to ensure that you can enjoy the Moulin and Bothy as much as we have, we are now able to let others enjoy the Dordogne experience.

Why Hayley Kinlan chose Ribérac

We stumbled across Le Moulin and fell in love with it, without having ever been to the area before. Luckily we struck gold. The countryside is beautiful and varied with lots of walks, the local food fabulous, and we enjoy tranquil local surroundings where we really get away from everything and yet have plenty to do within a short drive if we want a day out. As our children have grown we've progressed through play parks, castles and puppet shows to canoeing, tree top experiences and bike rides. Of course the pool and local beaches never loose their attraction. There's so much history on our doorstep and fabulous things to do that although always relaxed, we're never bored.

What makes this house unique

Le Moulin and The Bothy provide a 'get away from it all' experience. The children put down their ipods and build dens, or explore the surrounding streams and the mill race. The area is great for cycling and we have a friend running a bike hire business who will deliver bikes to the Moulin for you. The biggest decision of the day is what to eat, and even a supermarket trip is a treat as all the food is so vibrant in colour and taste and whilst people will speak to you in French, most can understand English if you get stuck. It doesn't take long to forget the office! The beautiful surrounding countryside and wealth of wildlife bring an element of peace, only broken by the children playing in the pool or trying their hands at table tennis. Sam, who looks after the houses for us lives less than 5 minutes away, and speaks fluent French and English, so is on hand with help or advice if needed.

The two properties, Le Moulin and The Bothy can be rented together or separately, as they provide very private accommodation. Each has a fully equipped kitchen with all facilities. The Moulin has oil fired central heating in addition to its log burning stove. There are also dvd players, satellite TV and a variety of books and games available. We have a no smoking policy in both properties and no pets. Days can be spent either relaxing by the fully enclosed pool (shared by the two properties) or in the surrounding 4 acres of private gardens, surrounded by small streams and the original mill race to the front. Fishing is possible in the Mill race which is often populated with carp and even terrapins. The wider views are of the open fields which alternate growing seasons between crops and sunflowers.

Further Details:

The Dordogne region is a land of truffles and armagnac, sunflowers and foie-gras, warm, generous people and wine. It is a centre of prehistory in France with fascinating museums and cave paintings and numerous rivers, canals and lakes for canoeing, kayaking, rafting, swimming and fishing.

Blessed with high levels of sunshine throughout the year, yet enough rain to maintain the crops and keep the garden green, temperatures can be above 20 from early Spring and can reach up to 40 degrees in Summer when the pool and shaded terraces come into their own. Autumn provides lovely days although chilly at night when the log fires start to prove their worth and winter is magical, especially in the snow.

We aim for both Le Moulin and The Bothy to provide you with a comfortable, enjoyable holiday, all year round.
