Charming. Cosy Cottage in a lovely location near the sea

  • 5 of 5

We have had day visits in the summer but this was our first stay in a cottage in winter over Christmas. The cottage was lovely, comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. With it being Christmas, there were lights above the fireplace and a small Christmas tree which was lovely.

It was close to the sea and and the centre of the village. There were pubs open where you could have food and drinks and also Dotty's Tearoom for some drinks and delicious bakes.

There are a lot of walks in the area. Walking by the sea was great and there's a nice walk, not too steep, up the Cliff where you can look down onto and into Staithes and out to sea. On the days we were there the weather was fabulous, sunny, blue skies with a slight wind, temperatures were around 10/11 degrees, exceptional for that time of year.

We met Simon who was lovely and welcoming and told us to ring if we had any questions or problems.

We had a lovely Christmas in the cottage and would definitely return to Slipway Cottage if we were to visit again.

Great little cottage in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my wife and we absolutely loved it. The cottage is a cosy little thing but has everything you need and is perfect for a couple. The location is hard to beat. 20 seconds from the centre of Staithes which is one of the prettiest villages I have ever been to.

Highly recommended.

Cosy cottage, fantastic location

  • 5 of 5

Slipway Cottage is in a fantastic location just a few steps from the harbour in Staithes. The location is just perfect. As an avid photographer I loved being able to step out the door and instantly find myself in one of the most picturesque places on the Yorkshire coast.

The cottage is best-described as 'cosy', but there's plenty of room for 4 people. Our teenage daughter loved the fact that the wi-fi was so good.

Be aware that there's no parking in Staithes itself; you have to park up the hill and walk up and down the very steep hill between the harbour and the parking area. Its good exercise!

Staithes Beach

Staithes was once a major local fishing port, like Robin Hood's Bay and many other fishing ports along the Yorkshire Coast, . Although the little fishing boats and lobster pots along the harbour, point to a continuing trade with the sea.

There are several slipways around Staithes but the one that catches your eye is an old cobbled affair, leading directly into the Roxby Beck. The beck fills with water at high tide and along it's length there are small fishing boats attached to their moorings by long, thick ropes. All adding to the quaintness of the place. Here is where you find Slipway Cottage

The cottage is a 1890's and is of a high standard and has everything for a relaxing stay.
