About the property

Townhouse with pool in a very quiet location, with clear views of the mountains

Superbly located and stylishly decorated, this 200 year old house is just 6 minutes' walk from the main square, yet it offers the peace and tranquility of a house in the country, with superb, uninterrupted views of the Tramuntana mountains. The pool, terrace with a BBQ and the garden filled with orange and lemon trees catch the sunshine all day. There are three bedrooms, all with air-conditioning, two bathrooms with an additional shower and WC, a well equipped kitchen, spacious dining room and three seating areas. Free wifi is included.

The house is a 200 year old Mallorquin house, and is built on many levels. Like all such houses, there is a steep staircase and for this reason, as well as the furnishings and the swimming pool, we do not recommend the house as suitable for children under the age of 12.

Car Hire: The house has a dedicated parking space but the access road is very narrow and for this reason we recommend that you hire a small car, such as a Polo. But if you want or need a bigger car, you can park it on the road up to the cemetery, or in the cemetery car park, which is a four minute walk from the house.

About David Hare

I first visited Soller in 1986 and have been returning every year since then. In 2001 I bought property in the area which has been rented through Owners Direct. I am a television producer and have shot two series for Channel 4 in Soller and a third series for RTE; I have also made a documentary about the Soller Railway for the Travel Channel, commissioned by the railway company.

David Hare purchased this house in 2016

Why David Hare chose Sóller

There are many house to rent in Soller - so why choose Cas Panares? The answer is location, style and service. In terms of location, it is hard to beat: just 6 minute's walk from the main square and all the cafés, shops and restaurants. It also offers the peace and tranquility of a house in the country, a swimming pool, sunshine all day (very unusual in Soller), and wonderful, inspiring views of the Tramontana mountains from the terrace, and a garden filled with lemon and orange trees.

The house is very much our private house which we rent: it is not a typical "rental property": It is well furnished and stylishly decorated. As befits a house which is 200 years old, it has great character and a great atmosphere, but with all the modern conveniences: air conditioning, central heating, free wifi, a well equipped kitchen. There are two bathrooms, plus an additional shower and WC. Light and airy in the summer, when you can expect to eat every meal outside. In the winter it is warm and cosy, a great base for anyone wanting to walk and hike in the surrounding mountains.

What makes this house unique

Because Soller sits in a valley, very few houses are fortunate enough to get the sun all day. Happily, Cas Panares' unbeatable location means that it does that enjoy sunshine all day, and wonderful, uninterrupted views of the Tramontana mountains. It is also very unusual for houses so close to the town centre to have a swimming pool, and a garden filled with fragrant lemon and orange trees. It offers the best of both worlds: a town house in the country, and a country house, with a pool and garden, very close to the town centre.

Beautiful villa with everything you need. There is plenty of space and the pool is fantastic.

Great weather all week which allowed us to swim everyday. Villa much larger than appears on the advert and the location is great.

Lovely house - great location

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our family of four adults for a few days of rest and relaxation between Christmas and New Year. Full of character and thoughtfully furnished. We were very lucky with the weather, so were able to make the most of the sunny garden as well as the various cozy sitting areas in the evenings. Being such a short walk away from the town centre was wonderful, so we could mix eating in and eating out whenever we wanted without needing to use the car. The kitchen is so well equipped that it really felt like home.

We really appreciated all the homely touches in the house and the quirky mix of art/sculpture. All the rooms were so much bigger than they appear in the photos, particularly because of the high ceilings. We were concerned that the house might be cold and draughty in winter, but the radiators kept it lovely and warm - although the boiler (oil fired?) was rather smelly. We never needed to use the wood-burner although wood and lighters were supplied.

The only downside was the water pressure in the bathrooms. It was great to have three shower rooms for three bedrooms, but we had to have a rota to have showers, as only one could shower at once without taking water from the other. Fine when there were only four of us and family - but would have been more annoying with more people and/or people who know each other less well. If money needs to be spent anywhere in this house, the bathrooms need updating and power showers put in.

This was our third visit to Soller, and we absolutely love the whole area: the town, the wonderful walks, the port, and the climate! We will definitely be back, and Cas Panares may well be our new best-kept secret!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your 5 star review - these are always greatly appreciated and we take pleasure from the fact that other people enjoy our house as much as we do. It is very much a private house with character, rather than purely a rental property and our guests seem to like that. Constructive criticism is also welcomed and I will certainly fix the low water pressure in the bathrooms. I suspect that this was a problem with the pump as it has not been mentioned before by our guests who, like you, appreciate the fact that there are three shower rooms and WCs - quite unusual for a 200 year old house and certainly a challenge to fit retrospectively! Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back to Cas Panares.

Can Panares

  • 4 of 5

A relaxing villa, close to transport and the town centre. It was at the start of one of our favourite walks - up Al Fabia, along the ridge and down the Baranc.

We'd book again.

A slice of idyllic, Mallorcan heaven

  • 5 of 5

Wow. Cas Panares was one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed at. The photos look lovely but they seriously don't do the place justice. The surrounding views are just stunning and the farmhouse itself is gorgeous, stylish and very well equipped. We stayed for two weeks, there were 2 adults, 3 teenagers and an 8 year old. We had a most relaxing time. You can stroll into Soller town centre in under ten minutes, which is lovely. A great range of restaurants and shops. You can also get the public bus down to the Port, which is considerably cheaper than the tram!! We are seriously considering staying here again as it was such a beautiful home. I actually cried when we left!!

An excellent relaxing holiday in a very comfortable well appointed home, accurately described.

  • 5 of 5

Very spacious accommodation conveniently located minutes walk from the delightful town of Soller.

The area is extremely peaceful and ideal for relaxing. The owners have thoughtfully provided all you would need to fully self cater for six people.

We desperately needed rest and relaxation which we found here.

The pool was well maintained and of a generous size. I would thoroughly recommend this property without reservation.

A beautiful house and a wonderful holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was perfect!

The house is tranquil, beautifully furnished and really well-equipped.

On arrival the house and garden were spotless.

The location is perfect - quiet but within a short stroll of town.

We wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful holiday house and hope to be back soon.

Sóller is unique, a traditional Majorcan town near the coast with a distinctly French. It is surrounded by the Tramuntana mountains and dense woodland. The whole area is part of a Unesco World Heritage Site and Soller sits in a valley filled with fragrant orange and lemon trees: citrus fruit was the source of the town's fortunes.

Architecturally, it is an intriguing blend of Gaudi-inspired design, grand palaces and traditional fincas. The wood-panelled train travels through the mountains to Palma and is a journey absolutely worth taking for both the views and the experience of an extraordinary railway, opened in 1912.
