The detached property is in a quiet setting within the village and has a lovely pool and spacious terrace with BBQ, and is set above the quiet street and surrounded by borders and plants, which makes it self contained and very private and ideal for families. The pool itself has benefited from a complete rejuvenation (Nov 2017). The pool and terrace area closest to the building is south facing and therefore captures the sun all day, but the far end of the pool and terrace has some natural shade from the adjacent trees. There are ample newly re-covered sun loungers (spring 2017), patio furniture and new shade umbrellas (spring 2017). The pool is professionally maintained and cleaned twice a week, and our agents handle the laundry and cleaning and are available to guests during their stay. They will make a courtesy call within 48 hours of your stay.

Inside the property the entrance door opens onto a spacious open plan area of lounge, dining area and kitchen, with exposed wooden beams. The lounge gives sliding door access to the terrace and pool, and has a newly installed large air conditioning unit, and there are two new 3 seater leather sofas. For entertainment there is a TV (currently limited to the news and music channels) with PC in-line socket, DVD player with USB and a CD/radio player with USB which can play mp3 discs. The cabinets contain several family games and jigsaws/paints/drawing materials for children. Also there is newly installed Wi-Fi giving internet access. There is a selection of books available in the entrance way, where the ironing board, drying rail and cleaning facilities are kept.

The dining area has a new pine table and chairs to seat six people and high chairs are available for children from our agents. The kitchen has had a makeover and has been brightened with new worktops, new stainless steel appliances; electric oven, gas hob, extractor, sink and tap. There are fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and kettle. The kitchen now has a new dishwasher, and the washing machine has been brought inside alongside it. The brightened kitchen units give plenty of storage space, and there are ample crockery, utensils and cooking pans and dishes.

Of the three bedrooms, the larger master bedroom has en suite shower facilities and is to the rear of the property and so more shaded - it receives the sun later in the day. It has newly installed air con (Nov 2017). The second double bedroom gives sliding door access to the terrace and pool and has sliding wardrobe doors containing a safe. The third twin bedroom also overlooks the terrace and pool, and has sliding wardrobe doors. Please be aware that for 2018 we are considering converting one of the two double bedrooms into a twin, so there will likely be one double bedroom and two twins in 2018.

The main bathroom has a bath with shower over, and a lighted mirror above the sink unit with cupboard and drawers. There is also a magnifying mirror.

Whilst there are good countryside views from the pool terrace, these are even better from the roof terrace where one can watch the sun go down.

Externally there are garden areas all around the property and two driveways with parking for two or three cars. A folding drying rail is available stored in the entranceway. Hot water is supplied by an instantaneous gas boiler (newly upgraded summer 2017) and so is not subject to the restrictions/time delays of electric immersion heaters.

The village amenities are little more than a 5min walk away, and the beach only a 10 min walk. The beach itself is in a horseshoe cove gently sloping into the sea and is ideal and safe for children. Lifeguards are on duty and there are tapas bars at the beachside. The village has various bars and restaurants to cater for all tastes with a relaxed atmosphere, and English is understood and spoken by the majority of villagers. For those seeking more of a disco environment, this happens on the far side of the village in an actual cave where one can watch the sun go down with a glass of wine before the disco entertainment begins later. This is a popular attraction on the island.

There is a regular bus service during the summer months to take you to the capital Mao which is only ten to fifteen minutes away. From there buses travel to all parts of the island, including Cuitadella on the opposite side of the island which is only about an hour away. There is a bus stop just around the corner from the villa which is the first stop, so one is sure of getting a seat!

About Ian Millward

My wife and I are both honest retired professional people, nurse and teacher respectively. We both originate from the Skipton area but have resided in Huddersfield now for almost 30 years. I left teaching in 2004 and began buying and renovating properties, so that we now own several properties in the UK which provide us with a moderate income. My wife retired two years ago so that we could therefore spend more time on this beautiful island of Menorca, and this is our fifth year of visiting. We love the place!

In late summer 2013 we holidayed here in Cala en Porter staying in the Bahia Park complex. The day before we were due to return to England, I left my wife on the beach for a short while, sneaked off to the estate agents and arranged for us to view a 3 bed apartment in the Siesta Mar 2 complex, which was being sold cheaply. With my wife being suitably impressed with the idea of a holiday home, within 24 hours an offer was made and accepted, and so began our association with the island. This meant that we could visit several times a year with our children and grandchildren – ‘fantastico’! During our visits the apartment was slowly renovated, and its sale in 2016 enabled us to purchase this lovely detached villa with its greater privacy and own swimming pool. We became the proud owners in March 2016. Although for several months we had to weather a financial struggle, we are now very glad of the route that we took. And following renovations of the villa throughout 2016, we are very pleased to be able to offer it for use by our guests during the summer months.

Why Ian Millward chose Cala en Porter

This is a delightful villa which is full of character, and although it was in a poor run down state at the time of purchase (but of course the price reflected this) we are extremely pleased with it and consider ourselves very fortunate to be the owners. This is especially so now that we have carried out many improvements/additions both before and after the 2016 summer season. In the spring of 2016 we added a new washing machine, TV, DVD player, CD/radio player and coffee maker, and installed wi-fi to give our guests internet access. Also many of the antiquated fittings in poor condition such as brass lights were replaced. The major improvements were made during the autumn/winter when the kitchen was modernised with new worktops and new stainless steel appliances; oven, extractor, hob, sink and taps. A new dishwasher was added to complete the kitchen. In the lounge the tired seating was replaced with two new comfy leather 3 seater sofas, and an air conditioning unit was installed for more comfort during the heat of mid-summer. Finally, the ancient wooden dining table and chairs were replaced with new pine furniture to compliment the ceiling beams.

We are very grateful to our summer guests because any rental funds that remain after taxes and agent fees etc enable us to make further improvements to the property. For example, in 2017 we plan to add more air conditioning to at least one bedroom, and the swimming pool will receive essential maintenance.

From myself, you can be certain of prompt replies to any queries that you may have before a visit (about the villa, village or island) and also whilst staying at the villa. Fantastic Villa, great location, Fabulous owners.

What a fabulous holiday and made so by the villa we stayed in and the owners communication throughout. The owners were very up front about some things needing attention, but they are merely cosmetic, which they are going to deal with shortly. That said, it does not take anything away from the quality of the villa, it's great, quiet location, the fabulous views, (especially sunsets) and the layout of the villa made it very cosy with everything you need. The pool is a decent size and you can get some good lengths in! Lots of helpful information in the guest pack too about the villa and the area. Although we have been to Calan Porter before, we learnt a few new things about the area. We very much hope we can get back out there next year! Well done Ian and Val and thank you so much for everything!

Excellent Villa

A lovely Villa in a great location. Comfortable clean and well presented on our arrival. The villa had everything you would need for your stay. There was lots of information regarding the villa and Cala en Porter ( a good read ). Great pool and outside area which gets the sun all day. Casa Valiante is close to the village with shops supermarkets bars and restaurants only a good 5 mins walk. Ian always kept in touch and answered any questions promptly.

Thank you Ian and Val we had a FAB holiday . We will be back.

Fantastic villa with pool in perfect location!

Our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 boys aged 7 and 10) have just returned from our 2 week holiday staying at Casa Valiante. From the very first contact with Ian everything has been trouble free. This was our boys first holiday abroad so we wanted everything to be perfect and Ian was very helpful in answering our many questions with prompt responses. Right up to and including our stay, Ian was in contact with us, checking everything was ok and wishing us safe journeys - this gave it a lovely personal touch. Thank you Ian.

As for the villa, you couldn't wish for anything more. It is decorated and furnished to a high standard and is located in a very quiet street. It had everything you could need. There was a very good, detailed brochure in the villa which contained everything you needed to know with the regards the villa and the surrounding area. We particularly appreciated the information sent to us prior to our arrival as we were arriving too early to be able to enter the villa straight away. With Ian's expert directions we headed straight to the beach. The pool was perfect, a great size and depth. Our boys certainly put it too good use. We saw the agents a couple of times during our stay and the pool was cleaned regularly. We found them very helpful and answering our questions during our stay. The village centre is an easy 5 min walk away where there is ample selection of restaurants and 3 good supermarkets to choose from. We had a mixture of eating out and eating in the villa. There was a bbq which we used regularly - it was lovely to make use of the pool especially using it at night time with the lights on. There was children's play area in the village square which our boys enjoyed. It had an amazing atmosphere at night with lots of families milling about and our boys soon made friends with other children, kicking a football about. There is a market on Mondays and Thursday evenings which all added to the atmosphere.

The beach was about a 10 min walk down the hill but well worth it. Not too over crowded with beautiful crystal clear water and very shallow. Lots of opportunity to snorkel and see the fish. There are pedaloes with slides to hire which are great fun.

This has been an amazing holiday and we couldn't of wished for anything more. A perfect villa, in a perfect location with a very kind and helpful owner. We would love to return again to Casa Valiante as we all had such a wonderful time.

Lovely villa in an ideal location with owners that care about their guests!

My sister and I stayed at Casa Valiante at the beginning of June. Everything from booking the villa to detail about the area was meticulously communicated by the owner Ian. Ian is very open about what they have achieved with the refurbishment of their recently purchased property and what they still wish to achieve. The villa is located in a very quiet residential area, a 5 minute walk (depending on your fitness, as it is quite a steep road!) to the centre and a good 10 minute walk downhill to the beautiful cove. The villa is clean both inside and outside with everything you need for a comfortable stay, the pool was cleaned at least twice (that we are aware of) during our 1 week stay and there was access to the agents should we have needed anything sorted during our stay, we didn't! The villa is spacious with superfast wifi that works outside as well which is a big bonus, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this villa for both families and couples and my sister and I would definitely return.
