About the property

Two bed self catering cottage

Rose Cottage & Bluebell Cottage are at Pole Rue Farm in South Somerset. Both cottages are newly converted stables, beautifully presented and each sleep up to four guests. Pole Rue Farm is a non working farm with 5 acres, home to some lovely pet llamas & some chickens. This is the perfect holiday destination for families, friends and couples at any time of the year. Both cottages can be booked for an extended friend’s /family 'get together'.

During the winter months, enjoy the pleasure of a roaring fire in the log burner, and when the sun shines there is plenty of outside space to relax and unwind amongst the rolling Somerset countryside. Each cottage is presented to a high standard of comfort and style and has its own sunny patio & garden area with outdoor furniture for alfresco dining. There is also a large grass area for all to use which has a large picnic table & great for playing lawn games, relaxing and having a picnic.

Approached via a quiet small no-through country lane, Pole Rue Farm sits in a tranquil position, and is within walking distance (ten minutes) of the picturesque Somerset village Combe St Nicholas with its popular pub (The Green Dragon offering food, a good pint of ale and at times live music), general store and 'pop-up' cafe. There is also a farm shop within a mile for stocking up on local provisions (it also has a cafe/restaurant for refreshments). For a larger selection of shops, head to Chard or slightly further afield to Somerset's county town of Taunton (ten miles way by car) or Exeter's impressive cathedral city (thirty minutes).

The surrounding countryside is a haven for wildlife and offers plenty of opportunities for those who enjoy country walks, cycle rides along leafy lanes, and fishing. It is well placed for visiting a host of attractions in Somerset, Dorset and Devon including: the World Heritage Jurassic Coast with popular resorts such as Lyme Regis (only twenty five minutes away); the National Trust Properties of Barrington Court, Tintinhull Gardens and Montecute House to name just a few; Clark's Shopping Village for those needing some retail therapy; River Cottage Restaurant and Deli in Axminster (home to Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall; the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary; Fleet Air Arm Museum as well as Haynes Motor Museum for historic car lovers; Paignton Zoo and Monkey World in Dorset. Exmoor National Park with its stunning coast is also within driving distance for a day trip, as is Dartmoor with its pretty little villages just waiting to be discovered.

The choices are plentiful and diverse with something for all ages and energy levels, as well as a great choice of pubs and restaurants within the local area for eating out, and beautiful countryside on the doorstep to simply relax.

One well behaved dog is welcome strictly by arrangement.

About Nick & Leigh White

We moved to Pole Rue Farm in March 2014 after deciding it was time for a new challenge!

We lived with our family in Mere, Wiltshire for nearly 20 years where we ran a very popular holiday cottage, Chance Cottage. This is something we very much enjoyed & we're really pleased we found Pole Rue Farm situated on the edge of the thriving, picturesque village of Combe St Nicholas.

We completed building works, on the two cottages which we converted from a stable block by early summer 2016.

The first year has flown by with many bookings coming in & even some of our previous guests have booked their holidays here!

Nick & Leigh White purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Nick & Leigh White chose Chard

We loved the location & the property when we viewed it for the first time. We had found the perfect place for our new venture.

The pretty village of Combe St Nicholas is just 5 minutes walk. It has a shop with post office, a pub, The Green Dragon which serves a great pint & good food, There are also two churches & a primary school. We think it's a great holiday destination for family breaks or for couples with great walks & stunning views on our doorstep.

What makes this cottage unique

An excellent base to explore the surrounding counties of Somerset, Devon and Dorset. The property is well away from busy roads, set in beautiful countryside. There is plenty of space outside to relax or enjoy family lawn games & picnics. The cottages are perfect for couples and families with attractions for all ages & tastes to visit nearby. The cottages are within 30 minutes drive to the stunning Jurassic Coast.

Pole Rue Farm is a non working farm with 5 acres. Home to our lovely pet llamas & chickens.

We live in the farmhouse at Pole Rue Farm so are always around for any help or advice.

This is an extremely well presented cottage with very comfy furnishings and everything that you need for a self catering holiday. We had a wonderful holiday visiting all the surrounding areas, including seaside villages; country gardens and scenic walks. Nick and Leigh who own the cottages are perfect hosts and really lovely people. Looking forward to visiting again.

Perfect for mini break a la Bridget Jones!

  • 5 of 5

Came for 3 nights with partner to chill, read, slob, eat, drink, snuggle, sleep, watch DVDs, eat chocolate - couldn't have wished for more. Scrupulously clean, well decorated, cosy, comfy, warm, everything we needed, warm welcome from Leigh and Nick, also very convenient pub in village (Green Dragon) who serve great food. Couldn't fault it.
