Lovely, well equipped property.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed as a family, to celebrate our parents 50th wedding anniversary.

We arrived the same time as the snow...... to find the paths had already been cleared for us.

There was tea, coffee, milk and even a packet of biscuits on arrival.

The house was very equipped and warm.

Perfect location to the local pub, and walk-able distance to Tideswell.

Given this we had an enjoyable stay, and will look at re-visiting during the warmer weather so we can make full use of the garden and BBQ.

Everything was well thought out, and the only thing we couldn't find was oven gloves!

Thank you

Great property which met our needs

  • 4 of 5

This is the 3rd year my sisters & I have booked a house in Derbyshire with our families for our "Christmas" do; the location suits us travelling from Staffordshire & Yorkshire for our weekend away. This property met our needs very well. Spotlessly clean, excellent living accommodation - 2 separate rooms plus well-appointed kitchen. Bedrooms a trifle small but clean & lovely bathrooms. Excellent location between the villages of Litton & Tideswell, & plenty of good walking from the front door. Sadly the Red Lion pub in Litton was closed for the week whilst we were there; we had looked forward to a post walk drink there!

I am giving 4 stars as the dishwasher wouldn't work. As we have children aged 6-13 with us, we don't eat out & our routine is to have cooked breakfasts on Sat & Sun, plus a big roast dinner on the Saturday night; this generates a lot of washing up for 11 people! The dishwasher wouldn't dissolve the tablets so all the crockery came out dirty. We ended up having to wash everything by hand (1st world problems I know) but it's a job we didn't need on our relaxing weekend away. This was reported to the owner on Saturday. Obviously I didn't expect her to be able to fix this immediately.

Very good that the property accepts dogs as we acquired a little puggle last year. She loved the garden which was completely fenced in so she couldn't escape.

All in all, I have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Great for a large family group

  • 4 of 5

We loved the social space of the kitchen/ dining/living area. The room was comfortable for 10 adults to cook, eat, chat and play board games all together. Well equipped kitchen for cooking large meals (could do with oven gloves) and plenty of bathrooms for a large party. A lovely stay.

Excellent accommodation in lovely area

  • 4 of 5

The property was extremely suitable for our family get-together with regard to bedrooms and having a separate sitting room to the kitchen/dining area/living area. There are walks from the property and the village pub and shop were very welcoming.

Lovely property, suitable for 11 as advertised

  • 5 of 5

11 of us stayed at this property for 2 nights for "Macmillan's Mighty Hike". The house was clean and tidy and had some great assets that make things easier for a large group: lots of bathrooms, a large dining table, plenty of sofas, 2 toasters, a massive oven and fridge - all good. The glass entrance is also a lovely feature.Only one small thing, we didn't have any washing up cloths / scubbers so had to pop to the shop. But an excellent venue and can also recommend "The Merchant's Yard" in Tideswell, lovely food and good atmosphere.

Location

Car: recommended

Litton is a picturesque chocolate box village, popular with walkers and has a highly regarded dog friendly pub serving food with additional outdoor seating on the green and a village shop. Litton is within walking distance of Tideswell, famed for its "Cathedral of the Peak" Tideswell is a charming village with many amenities including pubs, cafés, post office, second hand bookshop, butcher's greengrocer's and gift shops. There are miles and miles of country walks literally from your doorstep and good bus links to other towns and villages.

The Peak District is a beautiful region with miles and miles of country walking, climbing, cycling and all kinds of outdoor pursuits on your doorstep. Hire a bicycle at Blackwell Mill or Hassop Station and ride through the newly opened tunnels between Buxton and Bakewell on the Monsal trail, visit historic Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, wander through the local market towns of Bakewell and Buxton, swim in an outdoor heated swimming pool at Hathersage, experience a natural Cavern in Castleton, there are many things to see and do.

The Peak District is also a good base for exploring the Heart of England and North of England and for visiting Alton Towers. There are lots of country pubs in our region, many that also accept dogs and serve fabulous food. A perfect way to relax after enjoying the outdoors. Tideswell Food festival is in May, wakes time in June, July and August in our region, so you might be able to see Welldressings being made and join in the festivities at a local carnival.
