Luxury self catering cottages

Rates are based on The Hayloft. Please visit our website for The Parlour rates.

Peak times are based on 7 nights minimum but will consider last minute short breaks. Please ask us if we can accommodate you. Thank you.

Situated on a small holding our 2 cottages are in a quiet location but close to amenities and surrounded by wildlife. Both cottages are four star and fitted with all mod cons and feature wood burning stoves to snuggle up to for that authentic cottage experience. Our truly central location gives you easy access to Edinbugh, Glasgow, Loch Lomond, Lake District to name but a few places worthy of many visits, in particular New Lanark, 6 miles. We are perfect for romantic and family get aways. Each cottage has its own private South/west facing garden with furniture where you can witness the most stunning summer sunsets. Enjoy a barbecue or something cool to drink after a busy or relaxing day. During the winter, and when conditions allow, we even get the odd glimpse of the aurora borealis! Our quiet location means the only noise you should hear is the odd bird, sheep or maybe our pet cow, Jelly!

Shodshill Mill Farm

ML11 8NT

+44 7766 317302

We bought the farm in 2007 and lived in a static caravan for 14 months while we renovated our farm house. We then turned our attention to the derelict stables and miking parlour resulting in our self catering cottages. We hobby farm cattle and sheep but also keep goats, ducks and chickens. You can enjoy our delicious free range chicken eggs on arrival when the chickens are in the mood to lay. Our little flock of 23 is headed by our beautiful Faverelle cockerel, Major Tim Peck!

Why Barbara chose Lanark

Whether you are looking for a get away from it all or let's explore holiday, our cottages fall right into both of those catergories.

What makes this cottage unique

Having grown up in the country, and having lived in beautiful Edinburgh for 6 years, we decided it was time to head back to where our hearts' felt at home. A year of searching we fell upon Shodshill Mill Farm. Driving up to the very unloved derelict pile we knew instantly this would be home. The farm was once a thriving corn mill and the medieval remains of the mill are still evident.

Superb stay

  • 5 of 5

My two sons and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this very clean and beautifully maintained cottage this weekend.

The hosts were very warm and welcoming and the cottage couldn't have been better. It is situated deep in lush green Scottish countryside surrounded by green fields and clean air!

The cottage is well appointed, with everything in the kitchen that a family would need. It's scrupulously clean with comfy beds, huge cupboards and very cozy!

Thank you for a fab start to our U.K. Journey

Owner's Response: Hello! Thank you so very much for your lovely words! You were all an absolute pleasure to have as guests and I truly appreciate your unprompted review, fabulous! I hope the rest of your UK holiday is going to plan and that our rather damp British weather is behaving! Thank you very much again and I wish you all a safe journey home. With warmest regards Barbara

Absolutely fantastic cottage!!

  • 5 of 5

Superb cottage, beautiful both inside and out, exceptionally well equipped, and perfect location for Glasgow, Edinburgh, Lock Lomand and more.

The host (Barbara) was extremely friendly and welcoming, going that extra mile providing fresh eggs from her chickens and treats such as wine and chocolates. Will defiantly go again and strongly recommend this cottage as a perfect Scottish getaway location. 5 stars!!!!!*****

New Lanark (6 miles). This former cotton mill and once home to Philanthrapist Robert Owen's new town is now a World Heritage Site with a museum, restaurant, shops and country walks. Set on the banks of the river Clyde it is also boasts the spectacular Falls of Clyde water falls.

Edinburgh (30 miles). Scotland's magnificent capital city is one of my most favourite places in the world. Its Old Town is too a world heritage site. Along with its famous castle, winding streets once trod by the likes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, museums, galleries and endless eateries has something for everyone. It's the home of the Fringe Festival & Edinburgh Military Tattoo during August ending with a spectacular fireworks display.

Glasgow (30 miles) this city owns the word cosmopolitan. A sprawling yet very green city also boasts magnificent architecture, parks, museums and are again just a few things that this city has to offer. It did the UK proud in hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Falkirk Wheel (30 miles). A master piece of engineering
