Overview

About the property

2 Double Beds, Wood Burner, Pet Friendly, Stunning Views. Recently upgraded.

7 Wye Rapids Cottage is in a beautiful location along a quiet lane overlooking the River Wye and enjoys spectacular views of the renowned wooded valley that is Symonds Yat.

This property is also our little home from home and we want you to feel as comfortable as we do. Aside from the stunning elevated position the property has a lovely wood burning stove with a generous stock of wood, lovely comfortable beds and a whole range of home comforts. We don't want it to feel like just another holiday let.

As it's on the end of the row the good sized rear courtyard can be accessed easily without going through the cottage - perfect if you have bikes, canoes or just a muddy dog!!

The property enjoys a truly stunning elevated position with fantastic views of the river, surrounded by beautiful tracks for walking (with or without dogs!) or cycling. It's a nature lovers / bird-watcher's paradise, not to mention those that enjoy river activities such as canoeing, kayaking etc.

In addition, there are some great local pubs in total 5 within a lovely 30 minute walk (the nearest just 10 minutes walk). They are all very friendly and welcoming with a great selection of food and drink...and they love dogs!

You can cross the river via a hand-operated ferry, run by the staff of the Saracen's Head pub opposite the property - located 5 minutes walk from the cottage.

Since acquiring the property in 2016 with have renewed / upgraded most of it including a new kitchen and a new bathroom at the end of 2017. We will work hard to maintain and improve the standard throughout.

Why Kerry & Adrian Summerton chose Ross-on-Wye

We have been visitors to the Wye Valley for many years now, and when the opportunity arose in December 2015 to acquire 7 Wye Rapids in this premier location we just had to make it happen.

What makes this cottage unique

Wood burning stove and a free log store in the rear courtyard. As our cottage is on the end is has gated side access (great for bikes, canoes or muddy boots / dogs!). We've recently upgraded the broadband to high speed fibre optic and provide lots of home comforts for you and your dog!.

Beautiful Setting

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is set in a stunning setting. It’s cosy, clean and has all that you need for your stay. So many walks to take with the dog and lots of dog friendly places to eat.

Great information from the owners to make the most of your visit.

Would definitely come back! Enzo our dog loved it :-)

A real home from home

  • 5 of 5

Highly recommended. Lovely cottage with all the comforts you need. For us, finding a cottage which is genuinely dog friendly including a dog-safe garden, is especially important and this one is perfect. Having stayed here on several occasions, we have seen the improvements/updates that the owners have invested in, showing how much they care about the standard of the property and the guests' experience there. The location is fantastic - walks along the river and through beautiful woodlands are available straight from the door.

An added bonus is that Sainsbury's deliver to the address, so no need to go out for shopping or bring a lot of food, etc. with you.

A wonderful Wye Valley break!

  • 5 of 5

A lovely property that the owners had clearly put a lot of time and thought into ensuring was a well maintained, welcoming, and comfortable place to stay. It enabled us to immediately have a really relaxing and enjoyable time in the Wye Valley. The inside was very convenient with all facilities perfectly in place and ready to use. It also had a great homely feel where we could relax in front of the roaring log burner. From the property, we enjoyed the fantastic views, lovely walks, marvellous pubs with real ale, interesting local towns (Ross, Monmouth), and a great canoe trip down the River Wye. Overall, a great property and location - thank you!

Nice cottage but not great for us

  • 3 of 5

The location is lovely and the Cottage is very nice but not ideal for a young family in the winter. There was no hot water and the shower was a dribble. There was no control over the heating settings which were set very low considering how cold it was outside. The owners did immediately respond to our request to have the heating temperature higher by changing it remotely but we had no idea what temperature it would be at which time. I found the whole 'big brother' cheap skate heating control a step too far for a holiday Cottage and have never encountered this before!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review, naturally were very sorry for the problems you encountered and have already taken them on board. We had no idea there was no hot water - this is a first and we have since discovered the previous guests had switched off the power to the immersion heater which is on a timer! We’ve also never had a problem with the shower; we’ve subsequently checked and it’s fine so I can only assume you didn’t pull the chord to switch it on as with most electric showers. As for the heaters, we have just upgraded them to more powerful ones but we clearly got the settings wrong and have now adjusted this in line with your feedback. We also hadn’t appreciated the remote “child lock” which has now been removed allowing guests to adjust to suit their preference. Whilst I accept we got this wrong, I do not accept that we have been cheapskates as we provide a number of things free that others charge for and have upgraded almost every aspect of the cottage as evidenced in many of our other reviews. As for “Big Brother”, personally Im not a fan but it is nice to be able to switch the heaters off on the rare occasions the property is empty! I also wish when you raised your concerns about the heating (which as you say was dealt with immediately) you had mentioned the water and the shower as these were simple misunderstandings that could have been immediately rectified.

The cottage is in the heart of the Wye Valley - stunning views of the river, woodlands and the gorge are literally on your doorstep. It is therefore perfect for walkers / hikers, cyclists, dog owners, canoeists / kayaakers / those who like to fish (barbel / salmon) or people who just want to escape to the country. We're also blessed with some really great pubs in short walking distance - friendly, welcoming (including to dogs!) and serving great food. We're just 10 to 15 minutes drive from the lovely towns of Ross and Monmouth if you want to shop.
