Set on a hill next to the well known Marathi beach, Villa Oikia is an awarded house for its perfect design and layout for holidays! Open the panoramic glass doors around the villa and integrate the indoor into the outdoor areas, having the same “summer” feeling from any spot of the villa. Relax across the veranda framed by the refreshing water body of the immaculate infinity pool, let your senses indulge in a breathtaking panorama of Souda bay and the majestic mountain range of “Lefka Ori” dotted with the picturesque villages. Enjoy tranquillity, comfort and luxuriousness in this exquisite and unique villa.


The two-storey 290 sq. m villa with superb architectural design is tastefully decorated with minimum style and it can accommodate 10 people in beds and up to 11 people if it is necessary.

Entering the villa on the ground floor there is a spacious open plan area consisting of the living room with two seat sofas, a fireplace, a 46” satellite HDTV, DVD player, sound music system and an indoor dining area. An impressive panoramic floor-to-ceiling window from the living room area leads you to the outdoor terrace, garden and pool. Additionally a grass covered backyard garden with hammock is located behind the living room. Next to the open plan living-dining area there is a fully equipped kitchen of top quality fixtures and appliances. Furthermore, a fully organised office room is also found on the same floor.

As you go through the hall way on the ground floor there are 3 bedrooms, laundry room with washing machine and a tumble dryer and the main bathroom with bath and shower. The bedrooms are one main bedroom with a king size double bed and en-suite bathroom with shower and other two with 2 single beds. The single beds can be converted to a double bed. All the bedrooms on the ground floor have sea view and direct access to the pool area.

A staircase leads you down to the lower floor where you can find an open plan area designed for children with a double bed and two single beds, en-suite bathroom with shower, a playroom area and a secondary kitchen. The area also contains a 40” HDTV, Xbox with games, board games, a collection of Playmobil games and a treadmill for exercise.

The landscaped outdoor area of the villa offers a variety of facilities and spots for relaxation.

More specifically our outdoor facilities include:


- 18 m long ( 72 sq. m in total) infinity swimming pool with hydro massage

- Fully equipped gas barbecue

- An outdoor dining table with views to the pool and the surrounding landscape

Also even the airport looks to be close on the map, we can guarantee that you will never hear any sound of planes from the villa area (planes are landing and taking off in a different direction, so they do not pass over or close to the villa).

- The hospitality of the owner, he will be on hand with helpful advice and information whenever it is needed. The owners have a wide knowledge of the island and will be only to willing to suggest places of interest and routes to get there.

A view you will never forget!

We enjoyed every moment in this wonderful house with one of the best views you can wish for. Very stylish furniture and decorations, comfortable beds, and fantastic views form all upstairs bedrooms, the kitchen and the eating/living room. The fireplace allows for a cosy evening in case it is getting chilly (it did - mid October :-). A well-equipped kitchen enables easy cooking or brewing your own coffee in the morning. But certainly the huge terrace with the long infinity pool, lovely wooden table seating 10 persons and comfy sofas is the real jewel of the place - truly unforgettable and even more impressive than the already nice pictures of the homepage!

The house offers lots of space for two families with kids. The downstairs room is perfectly suited to accommodate 4 younger kids, with plenty of games and books.

Now and then there was an odd smell downstairs (diesel, sewage). And some aspects of the house are a bit dated (floors, bathrooms, windows with cracks, broken bike) and would benefit from repair.

Georg, the owner of the house, gave us a warm welcome and explained the villa in person. He also owns an ice cream shop in Chania, with free servings for all guests: most delicious! Thanks again so much for letting us rent your beautiful villa! Kostas and Sophia who assist Georg in looking after the house were very helpful. They connected us to 'best car rentals', and renting two cars from this company was easy and reliable.

Great stay

Our stay at Villa Oikia was very nice. The house is in a beautiful setting with long range views and a fantastic outdoor area. It is close to the airport & close enough to Chania without the crowds. Overall the property is wonderful but does need some repairs

Get away from it all.

First impression was superb, lovely villa, well presented ( we were apparently the first guests this year). Mr George was very helpful and took us to get initial groceries and explained the local area. We found that after buying groceries for the week, the fridge and freezer didn't work, fortunately there was a back up downstairs but only after we had to throw lots away. A call was made and the fridge was "repaired" only to fail completely hours later. There was a strange diesel smell on entering the property but you got passed that quickly.

You definitely need a car as it's isolated from everything except the mini market and coffee shop at the top of the hill. The BBQ hadn't been cleaned and was unusable. Other than that, the kitchen has everything you could need, the beds are comfy the lounge is great the external area is spacious plenty of sun beds, great pool, great views, cleaners were fantastic.

Wonderful holiday!

We spent an absolute amazing week! The owner Mr George was really welcoming and all the people we met on Crete were also very kind.

The villa in fact is as amazing as it looks on the photos and there is really enough space for all, even for 13 people if you don't mind sleeping on sofas which are also comfortable. The pool can be illuminated by night. The view is stunning and there are almost no neighbors that can be disturbed or are disturbing.

You can't hear the airport but there are sometimes jet fighters from the nearby military base, so it can be noisy sometimes. There is also no complete privacy since you can be seen by a road, but there are hardly any people.

All in all, we can just recommend booking your vacation there!

Villa Oikia is located on Akrotiri peninsula, overlooking the Souda bay and just outside the small traditional village Sternes, around 14 km north east of Chania town.

The whole surrounding area is a totally quiet natural environment ideal for relaxing but also being very close to all kind of supplies shops, restaurants and services. In Sternes village you will be able to find all kind of small grocery shops but most of supplies can be found in Kounoupidiana (9 km away from the villa) which is the largest village of Akrotiri peninsula.

The closest well known area because of its famous beach is Marathi which is only 2 min drive away. Marathi is an organised sandy beach which is famous for the crystal blue and calm waters with some excellent traditional seafood taverns. It is actually one of the favourite beaches for locals who are driving many kilometres in order to visit there especially during weekends. Take the advantage of staying next to it and enjoy daily this one of the best beaches in the whole Crete. Another well known beach next to the villa which worth a visit is Loutraki (2.6 km away).

Regarding Akrotiri area, there are some remarkable historical monuments, monasteries, churches, caves, the famous tombs of Venizelos and many places with archaeological interests.

In addition, if you are looking for privileges that only a big city can offer, then Chania town is 13 km away and offers unique facilities and a wide variety of entertainment.

Staying in our villa offers you an opportunity of total relaxation in a quiet and secluded area with being in small distances to living areas at the same time.
