The loft bedroom has wonderful views and a large bathroom with luxurious walk -in shower. One of the bedrooms can be either 2 singles or a double bed. Pouzols Minervois is 5 minutes from the Canal du Midi and 40 mins drive to Carcassonne and Mediterranean beaches. About Juliet and Simon Ingman

Juliet and Simon are originally from the UK and moved to the beautiful Languedoc region in 2004. Juliet is a Master of Wine and wine educator and loves communicating her passion for the region and its wines. Simon renovates historic houses and also his small collection of classic cars and motor bikes. Together they make wine at their family vineyard Domaine La Tasque in the neighbouring village of Mailhac.

Juliet and Simon Ingman purchased this house in 2014

Why Juliet and Simon Ingman chose Pouzols-Minervois

We have lived in the Languedoc since 2004 and love the relaxed way of life here and the beautiful scenery. We finally settled in the village of Mailhac but have always liked Pouzols and know it well as our daughter went to school here. So when we heard that a house was available for sale in the oldest part of the village, we had to have a look. We have renovated several properties over the years, some of which have been in a sorry state of repair and required lots of imagination! This house just felt right, the minute we walked through the door. Although it needed updating, (there was no bathroom) it was easy to see how it could be restored to its former glory. Restoring it has been a pleasure and we love it when our guests appreciate it as much as we do!

What makes this house unique

The views from the house are very special, particularly on a clear day when you can see the Pyrenees. Sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine, watching the sun go down over the mountains is a joy.

This house has oodles of character. The walls are 2 feet thick and there are stone walls or stone detailing in the kitchen, first floor bedroom and the sitting room which. It is charming and a bit higgledy piggelty. Nothing is quite straight. If you like straight lines and a sleek, modern look then this house is probably not for you. However we have restored it with our guests comfort in mind so it has all mod cons.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We has a wonderful stay. The house was comfortable and well equipped. The views were magnificent and it was so peaceful, apart from the village clock, which chimed gently on the hour. The little village of Pouzols Minervois was beautiful and full of character. Juliet welcomed us on our arrival, but then left us to it and was completely unintrusive. We would recommend this property highly.

Very nice property in a lovely village, owners very helpful and informative. Having breakfast each morning looking out over the Vine Yards was simply beautiful. The views were fantastic.

Even better than we expected.

  • 5 of 5

We had high hopes having read the description of this property and the reality was even better. 13 rue du Fort has been very carefully and thoughtfully restored and even though small provides plenty of accommodation for up to 4 guests. Absolutely everything is provided for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the bathroom installations are modern and efficient. Finding ample supplies of tea, coffee and sugar, oil, vinegar and salt, dishwasher and washing machine detergents, toiletries in the bathrooms as well as the fruit and wine of their own production in the kitchen from the charming owners made moving in more like a homecoming rather than arriving at a rental property. Juliet and Simon make their guests feel really welcome.

The surrounding area provides plenty of interesting places to visit without having to drive long distances and could fill many weeks - we thoroughly enjoyed being in an area which we had passed through in earlier years without stopping off. It is well worth spending some time looking through the many tourist leaflets to be found in the house as well as taking note of the restaurant recommendations in the house information book. You can eat very well in this area without spending ridiculous sums.

One small word of warning - Pouzols is an old village with some streets impassable to vehicles ( including the part of rue du Fort outside the property) and many others with no room for passing. As a result it was a bit of a challenge finding somewhere to park to unload the car. The village car park is a short walk away and there was always plenty of space but it is a steep climb back up to the house. In spite of this we, a couple of 80+ year olds, found this a small price to pay for such a delightful holiday rental.

We highly recommend this splendid property for a peaceful and fulfilling holiday.

Lovely, quiet, friendly village - fabulous property

  • 5 of 5

Three of us stayed here for 10 days in April 2017 and absolutely loved it!

The gîte is authentic, yet with all mod cons and the views are stunning.

Do ask Juliet to show you her winery and vines, it is wonderful to hear her passion.

Pouzols-Minervois is a tiny village with friendly people – do visit the shop/restaurant (Grains D’ici) which is lovely.

We recommend this letting unreservedly.

Everything was fantastic

  • 5 of 5

It was such a privilege to stay in house dating back to medieval times, beautifully renovated to a very high standard and spectacular views from every room. the owners are lovely and provided everything to make our stay fabulous including a welcome gift of wine and gourmet delicacies. Short walk to the village shop/cafe for bread & croissants and within 10 minutes drive to major supermarches. Excellent location within easy driving distance to delightful villages along the Canal du Midi and also larger cities Carcassone & Beziers. Thank you for everything, definitely one of the top 5 places we have stayed in all over France

Gorgeous House; Extraordinary Experience

  • 5 of 5

Staying in this little house was an extraordinary experience -- combining the flavor of the 15th century with modern essentials. Simon and Juliet stripped down literally centuries of veneer to get to the original stone, installed modernized kitchen and baths, and renewed stone flooring. The effect and the ambience is just wonderful. That said, here's some key points:

1. Don't drive your car past the post office. You will get stuck! Once inside the village the roads are VERY narrow. Wait at post office.

2. The house was, Simon told me, part of a larger house which itself was part of the old fort's walls. Think of it as a tower keep. The entry area is a small room (all rooms are small -- except kitchen; it's a tower!), off of which is the kitchen and dining area (spacious, light, and modern - with a quirky table designed for short people) and a stone terrace: Views to die for! The entry room has a couple chairs but it is not a sitting room. The washer is located here (but in its own little closet). The kitchen is modern but European: small refrigerator but that is perfect. Kitchen accessories are excellent, and Juliet provided certain kitchen essentials: olive oil, FLOUR, sugar, salt, etc., nice touches. Oh yes, and she left a baguette, garden tomatoes, tapenade, and a bottle of wine! Eclectic accessory set (I'd reduce knives to chef, bread, and paring), and I did suggest adding whisk and meat mallet.

3. Stairs to the next level is circular, steep, narrow, uneven, and really fun. But, if you are much over 6', maybe not practical. Next level has a bathroom/WC with a wrap around shower. No storage for necessities; adequate for men. Comfortable bedroom. Up a step, sitting room with comfortable furniture (chair, two sofas).

4. Stairs to the final level is the most challenging (Juliet: "mind your head"). Opens to top bedroom, great view, comfortable bed, and modern bathroom -- full shower, storage, etc., (guess who monopolized that bath!).

5. This is a stone house: Wi-Fi works sporadically except on the first floor and the kitchen.

6. This is a "typical" French village in the picturesque sense. Great pastoral setting and great base for savoring the area.

7. Get Simon's guidance on the quirks of Southern France (i.e., when things are open and not).

8. Get their tour of their vineyard and wine making operation!! A highlight of the stay.

9. Extraordinary house and truly wonderful host and hostess.
