West Knighton is a great base for many countryside walks, and a short drive to the Jurassic Coast and if needed many many family attractions.

West Knighton is a village and civil parish in south Dorset, England, situated 3 miles (4.8 km) southeast of the county town Dorchester. It has an 11th-century church and a village pub. In the 2011 census the civil parish had a population of 375.

The village name derives from the Old English cniht and tūn, meaning the village or farmstead of the young men or retainers. At Little Mayne Farm 0.5 miles (0.80 km) southwest of the village is the site of a deserted medieval village, which was recorded in the Domesday Book as Maine and in 1201 was known as Parva Maene.

West Knighton parish historically developed out of the amalgamation of four medieval settlements within the ancient hundred of Cullifordtree: the existing main village, the previously mentioned Parva Maene, another medieval settlement at Friarmayne to the south—also deserted and now within neighbouring Broadmayne civil parish[6]—and the fourth at Lewell to the north (now just a farmhouse).

A lovely cosy cottage which felt like a home from home. Also very convenient for the local pub which serves great food including breakfast. We will be back for sure!

Very cozy cottage well decorated - modern - but still retaining the quirkiness and character of the original. Good size garden with sunny aspect. Local pub 2 minute walk away !

A home from home.

  • 5 of 5

It is not often one feels at home as soon as the car is unloaded, but this is one such place.

A spacious home, with a separate dining room. A large and private garden with plenty of chairs to sit out on.

Very comfy bed and a good shower – a good start. Wi-Fi worked very well.

A regular bus service serves this small village and the New Inn has a dining room that the County of Dorset should be proud of.

We look forward to returning.

Beautiful cottage in a superb quiet village location.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the cottage and we were very impressed by the cleanliness and quality of the cottage. The bedrooms were of a particularly high standard. We would have no hesitation in booking this cottage again and recommend it to others. The quiet village location was ideal for us as we are light sleepers, but there was no noise at all. The location is perfect for easy reach for Dorchester and Weymouth. We had a very good stay, thank you.
