West Knighton is a great base for many countryside walks, and a short drive to the Jurassic Coast and if needed many many family attractions.

West Knighton is a village and civil parish in south Dorset, England, situated 3 miles (4.8 km) southeast of the county town Dorchester. It has an 11th-century church and a village pub. In the 2011 census the civil parish had a population of 375.

The village name derives from the Old English cniht and tūn, meaning the village or farmstead of the young men or retainers. At Little Mayne Farm 0.5 miles (0.80 km) southwest of the village is the site of a deserted medieval village, which was recorded in the Domesday Book as Maine and in 1201 was known as Parva Maene.

West Knighton parish historically developed out of the amalgamation of four medieval settlements within the ancient hundred of Cullifordtree: the existing main village, the previously mentioned Parva Maene, another medieval settlement at Friarmayne to the south—also deserted and now within neighbouring Broadmayne civil parish[6]—and the fourth at Lewell to the north (now just a farmhouse).

Nice cottage in a very quiet village

  • 3 of 5

Nice cottage with good furnishings. Very helpful and friendly staff at The New Inn who also came and sorted out the television for us. The only thing I would suggest is that there be some cleaning items so that people can leave it as you would like to find it.

Beautiful cottage

  • 4 of 5

The location of this property is great, it sits in a quiet little village. Includes parking off road.

It’s a beautiful cottage and well equipped, although have stayed in others with a few more items but plenty for our short stay.

Bed linen and plenty of white towels were nice and fresh with comfy beds.

We had lovely weather so the garden was a bonus for us with a 3 year old and a dog. It could have been a bit more secure as out dog did find some gaps which we had to block up but he is a typical terrier and wants to get out.

We couldn’t fault this little cottage and would definately recommend and even hope to return ourselves as plenty to explore with lots of public footpaths on the doorstep, but didn’t have time.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay albeit very short.

Comfortable and clean but lacked something

  • 4 of 5

Angel cottage was very comfortable and clean.Well located for sightseeing. we paid more than we would normally for a week in a cottage. has character on the outside but not the inside. weather couldn't have been any better. picked a good week.

we were disappointed with the interior of the cottage. very plain and no character on the inside. needs some pictures and nicnacs around the place. on the first night we were using the oven and when i went to get food out there was no oven glove. we did report it at the pub and the lady kindly gave us a bar towel and said she would get one. 6 days later no sign of one. the following items would have been good. a washing up bowl as we didn't need a dishwasher, teapot and tea cosy, oven glove, and a clock on the wall. we used the washing machine and found a very dirty towel inside. a clothes airer would have been helpful.

Warm welcoming relaxing

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous home. Having recently lost both my parents it was so good to get away and to such solitude. The cottage is so comfortable and welcoming and we wouldn't hesitate going back in the future.
