Mallards is a feature detached two bedroom stone cottage set in an idyllic and peaceful location of Braunton. A former riverside barn and working blacksmiths in the mid 1940s – Mallards has since been converted and recently undergone a complete renovation to form a charming cottage of great character and comfort in one of the most picturesque corners of the village.

Backing on to the River Caen and overlooking the beautiful 13th century parish church, Mallards is just a short 5 minute, level-easy walk away from Braunton's village centre. This offers a wide range of amenities including local shops, supermarkets, library, medical centre, churches, tourist information, museums and a great selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants. The pictures​que Tarka trail (both a foot and cycle path) can also be accessed from the village which follows both the Taw and Torridge estuaries; and North Devon's 4 best surfing beaches (Saunton, Croyde, Puttsborough and Woolacombe) are all within a short drive away (9-20 minutes). Saunton Golf Club is also within easy reach of the property, as well as a number of riding schools.

The property is located on two levels and comfortably accommodates up to 5 persons in two bedrooms. The French Country Retreat is a charming, light and spacious bedroom, featuring a white wooden double bed, brushed cotton bedding, a flat screen TV, DVD player, ample built-in wardrobe space, chest of drawers and bedside tables. It also has the privacy of an en-suite bathroom, where you can enjoy a relaxing Jacuzzi air bath and have use of a WC, basin, under-sink storage, large illuminated mirror and towel rails. This bedroom also comes with an additional single bed and/or travel cot. Other features include a charming exposed brick fire place and large bay window - allowing sunlight to stream in.

The second bedroom, Driftwood Haven, is a light and welcoming twin/super-king size room, featuring beautiful driftwood interior and capturing relaxing rural views across the church yard and river Caen. This bedroom provides either a quality super-king size bed, or two comfortable single beds (depending on preference) and has a large driftwood style wardrobe, drawers and bedside tables for storage. This room also features bedside lamps, a rustic wooden mirror and a flat screen TV (complete with Freeview and DVD player). With Egyptian Cotton duvets and brushed cotton bedding - Driftwood Haven provides both quality and warmth for a great nights sleep.

This bedroom has use of a family shower room, right next door, featuring a power shower, WC, wash basin, airing cupboard, illuminated mirror and towel rails. All bed linen, bath towels and beach towels will also be provided for guests.

Downstairs, you will find a light a spacious living room to your right, and a large and bright dining room to your left. Both traditionally furnished, in a country cottage style, these rooms provide space for all the family.

The living room is a perfect area to sit and relax in. The large bay window is perfectly positioned for capturing sunlight – a great place to sit and read or enjoy watching the large flat screen TV. This room is equipped with a comfortable 3 piece leather suite (including a recliner chair and footstool), soft tweed beanbag, cushions and blankets and a warming gas fireplace for those chillier evenings. A large selection of books, DVDs and games are also provided for your use, as well as the use of NetFlix, IPod speakers and PlayStation 3. The dining room comes complete with a large country style dining table, seating 6, to enjoy many family meals around. Also well equipped with a portable retro DAB radio and board games.

Mallards beautifully renovated kitchen is modernised and well-equipped, whilst keeping its traditional character and charm and has picturesque views of both the River Caen and historic Parish Church. With an additional farmhouse table, seating 4, this is a great little space to enjoy breakfast with a view. Appliances include; an electric oven, grill, hob, extractor hood, microwave, kettle, 4-slice toaster, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, Tassimo coffee machine, heated towel rail and flat screen TV with inbuilt DVD player. A range of cookery books are also provided, giving this cosy kitchen a real 'home from home' feel. We also welcome our guests with a delicious Hamper upon arrival. This will include all your pantry basics to get you started, including: English and Herbal teas, coffee, sugar, milk, butter, jams, bread, cereal, fruit, spices & condiments, local eggs, homemade cake, biscuits and local ales from Braunton's very own brewery!

To the front of Mallards Cottage is a sunny private courtyard with a large wooden table and chairs to enjoy many nights of alfresco dining around. Also complete with a half drum BBQ and an additional bistro dining patio for 2 - the perfect area to enjoy those summer evenings in.

The patio gate is able to be securely locked with the provision of a key, so any boards/bikes can be left inside this area. We also have 2 beautiful mini-lops (Poppy & Pippin) who are residents in the area. They love people, so petting is very welcomed!

There is also private parking for 2 vehicles directly outside the property for our residents.

Come park alongside Mallards' beautiful 1970 bright orange Beetle and charming 1979 sunny yellow Camper - they'll bring a smile to all your faces!

Please note * All parts of Mallards Cottage are accessible for guests to use. You will have full use of the cottage, courtyard area and garden. Mallards Cottage is a large detached property which can be separated in to 2 self-contained units. We occupy the smaller section of the house when the rest of our property is rented out to guests. So any problems you may have during your stay, just pop next door and we can sort it all out for you :)

As a family, we used to always come down to Devon for our holidays. We were always so excited to be hitting the road and arriving at all the beautiful beaches North Devon has to offer. Once myself, and all my siblings finished educating ourselves, we all packed up and moved here. Braunton was the perfect move, so many things to do here (and it's only a village!) You won't be disappointed :D

* Mallards is located adjacent to the River Caen which runs through the heart of Braunton. The river level ranges from a quiet stream to a fast flowing deep river dependent upon rainfall. It is therefore important that guests with young children are aware and do not leave them unattended when in the garden area. * The property does have a fully enclosed securely lockable courtyard garden which provides a secure outdoor area away from the river. * A baby-sitting service is available should you need it. * I also own a small beauty salon / piercing studio a short 3 minute walk away from Mallards Cottage should you wish for any pampering whilst you are away on your holidays!

Mallards is a great place to stay

What a lovely find the Mallards is. A great cottage in a brilliant location for exploring North Devon and it’s great beaches and countryside. This was a trip down memory lane for us and the weekend was made all the mores special because we were so comfortable in the Mallards. The cottage is spectacularly clean, incredibly well equipped ( we cooked Easter Sunday roast with no trouble ) and Sarah’s attention to detail was just perfect. Sarah’s communication was just as you would want it and we will definitely book again. Thank you.

Ideal location within easy walking distance of all amenities in Braighton

Superb property, attention to the detail best we have ever experienced. Did not need to go to supermarket for ‘usual’ groceries on arrival as all provided so we could sit down and relax immediately. Every item to make our stay enjoyable provided including Netflix, great choice of books and DVDs. Beds very comfortable and all appliances easy to use as instructions provided! Also details of all local pubs and restaurants in manual as well as details of places to visit. Exceeded expectations and would definitely stay at Mallards again if and when visiting North Devon.

Friendly hosts, beautiful house, well-equipped kitchen, lots of games - everything you need!

Sarah, her family (and rabbits!) were incredibly welcoming and friendly. We loved the hamper of food to help us settle in and the very well equipped kitchen meant that we were able to cook our own meals too. We were travelling with a toddler and so spent a fair amount of time in the house, so it was really useful to have lots of entertainment options at home (TV, PS3, games, etc). I would highly recommend staying at the Mallards.

Quiet comfortable near to lots to do

Near to Braunton amenities but far enough out to be quiet and you can avoid the worst of the traffic. Would definitely consider a return visit.

The accommodation was beautifully presented with all the mod cons. The courtyard was lovely and in a peaceful but excellent location as walked into Braunton each evening for dinner . A thumbs up to the WiFi from our 18 year old!
