Where to go and what to do!
Lubrin is located about 1 hour cross country from Almeria Airport or 2 hours motorway/cross country from Alicante or Murcia Airports. The village is very Spanish and nestles high in the Sierra Los Filabres some 2000feet above the well known beach resorts of Mojacar and Garrucha which are just 45 minutes away.

The more Spanish resorts of San Juan Torres and Aquilas (to the North) and Carboneras, Agua Marga and San Jose ( to the South) are about an hour away. These Spanish resorts, in Summer, are very much less crowded, especially mid-week, than Mojacar and Garrucha.
Places of Interest include Cuevas de Almanzora for its cave houses and Tabernas for its magnificent Desert National Park. At Tabernas is a Westen Theme park on the site of the Clint Eastwood Movies!

The Cabo de Gata National Park is one of the most beautiful and ecologically rich coastal strips in the western Mediterranean and is the first Natural land and sea park in Andalucia. The drive takes just over an hour and the route down the mountain, via Nijar, is very dramatic. The park offers walks on marked trails and tracks amongst native scrub and grasses, amidst the scent of wild lemon balm and the distinctive aromas of curry plant and herbs. You are able to follow inland trails and coastline.

The ancient Andalusian city of Almeria (1 hour away)lies sheltered at the base of a bay, proudly dominated by the amazing Alcazaba, a huge Moorish citadel with three walled enclosures dating from 995. From the citadel visitors have a good view of the city’s most impressive and important Christian monument, the Cathedral, dating from 1524, designed more like a fortress than a church because of the need to defend it from pirate attacks. The Cathedral contains numerous art treasures, including a tabernacle dating from the 18th century, designed by Ventura Rodriguez. With its interesting medieval architecture, Almeria’s old town is a delight to stroll through with its tranquil squares, archways and colonnades. The city also has a fascinating archaeological museum and unique cave dwellings in the hillside above the old gypsy quarter.

The Alhambra in Granada is a very popular place to visit by our guests. It takes just 2 hours to drive to Granada along the Almeria to Sevilla motorway with stunning views. The motorway skirts around Granada and the Alhambra car park is easily accessed. There is a shuttle bus that takes you from the Alhambra direct to the Plaza de Nueva where it’s a short walk to the Cathedral and Royal Chapel.

Lovely place in lovely location
Excellent communication before arrival with generous offer of help but finding the place proved difficult so I would have benefited from a description. Lovely place to stay, quite quiet but easy access to the pleasant village. Had a great time.

Fabulous
Owners very friendly, helpful and informative. Fabulous location, very pretty and peaceful. The cortijo was very comfortable, everything we needed for a stunning, relaxing peaceful holiday. Lots of gorgeous places to visit, walking is a must around the surrounding villages, hamlets. The owner had made 5 booklets with photos /instructions of surrounding walks absolutely brilliant! If your looking for a peaceful quiet retreat then this is for you. We will return, cant wait to go back to our little piece of heaven.

A beautiful and tranquil place to relax and get away from it all!
We have just returned from a very enjoyable week at Casita Caballo. The accommodation was comfortable and well equipped. The 'Welcome Pack' was much appreciated and comprehensive. The caretakers could not have been more helpful and went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The village and surrounding area were beautiful, especially the Spring flowers at this time of year. One note of caution; this property may not be suitable for people with walking difficulties due to the steepness of some of the roads and tracks around the village. However, we are a retired couple and we managed with no problem. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to return.

About the host

Host profile image
In 1998, after having a holiday home in the Costa Blanca, we visited Almeria to look for a more permanent home for retirement but away from the mass tourism. We stumbled on Lubrin and within the first hour, as we sat in Bar Molino with our wine and tapas variadas and we knew that we had found our Spanish pueblo. After lunch we walked through the narrow streets and observed the children playing “shop” with their cardboard counters and toys they no longer needed. Groups of neighbours were sitting outside the houses talking and fanning themselves to keep cool. It was evident that the family unit was strong and this fact is very important to the reproduction and maintenance of social order. We bought an old cortijo on a 1hectare finca within a 5 minute walk of the centre of Lubrin. For the next 6 years we rehabilitated the building and converted the terraces into a series of terraced gardens with Almond, Olive and Pomegranate trees set in lawns with borders of Oleander and Grapevines. At the bottom of the land is a well which is now dry but fed a water deposit which we converted to a plunge pool.

Why they chose this property

Lubrin pueblo is a typical Andalucian village tucked away high in the Sierra de Los Filabres. It’s charm lies in its narrow streets, its white village houses adorned with bright geraniums and bougainvillea, and its endless sunshine.

What makes this property unique

Not forgetting the charming villagers of Lubrin that provide for all the basic holiday necessities and includes 2 Supermarkets, 2 Bakers, 2 Butchers, Bank with ATM machine, Post Office, 4 Restaurants and numerous Tapas Bars.

Lubrin is conveniently located for exploring Almeria with its diverse and dramatic landscapes, isolated villages and romantic beaches and coves. Many guests take the day trip to Granada to marvel at the wonderful Alhambra.
