Overview

About the property

7 bedroom, 5 bathroom, kitchen with aga, 4 reception rooms. Great views.

With views to the Black Mountain and the Carmarthen Fans, Cnewr is an ideal location from which to explore the hills, valleys and towns and villages of the Brecon Beacons Forest Fawr GeoPark and the National Park. A great base for activity breaks and get togethers with family and friends.

The property has four double bedrooms, one double or twin bedroom (let us know how you want it made up) and two twin bedrooms with two bathrooms with bath, over bath shower and loo, three shower rooms with loo and two separate loos.

There are lots of communal areas downstairs - a large sitting room with woodburner, a dining room, a games/tv room with a sofa bed, a snug with woodburner and tv and a large kitchen diner with an Aga.

The spacious kitchen has a three oven Aga, American fridge freezer, separate electric hob and oven, Nespresso machine, dishwasher in addition to all the usual kitchen equipment - and enough crockery, glassware and cutlery for everyone.

The cosy snug adjoins the kitchen - ideal for children to be close by. It has comfortable seating, a wood burner and tv/dvd player.

The large, comfortable sitting room sits everyone and has a supply of books and board games with a cd player/wireless speaker. The traditional flagstone floor is covered by a warm rug and the room is additionally heated by a woodburner.

The dining room sits 12-14 and is ideal for a formal dinner and you can then relax in the games room which has a pool table and TV with Wii u. Should you have more than 14 guests, there is a sofa bed to sleep two people in the games room.

There is a downstairs cloakroom with large walk in shower and loo.

Upstairs the bedrooms are set out across the property with plenty of bathrooms and shower rooms. All bedrooms have plenty of space to pack clothes away, bedside tables and lamps/reading lights. There is an upstairs utility room for guest laundry with washing machine and drying machine.

The properly has its own biomass boiler and a hydro scheme - meaning that the properly provides all its own hot water and electricity. The property has its own spring. We aim for a zero carbon footprint.

There is immediate access onto the 12,500 Estate from the house. You will be able to find small streams, a reservoir and lots of walking immediately adjacent to the house. You can easily get out mountain biking on the hill roads.

Cnewr Farmhouse forms part of a courtyard of Grade 2 listed farm buildings built approximately 200 years ago. It is a fully working farm so will have farm vehicles and livestock in close proximity to the house.

About Rachel Chapel

The current family started farming at Cnewr in 1856 when the Estate was rented to the McTurk family. The head of the family farmed in Scotland and seems to rarely have visited Cnewr, but two of his sons introduced Cheviot and Scottish Black-faced sheep to the area. The sheep walked from Crewe, which was then the nearest rail terminus and the leather shoes worn by the rams were kept at Cnewr until recently. The Black-faced sheep were not popular with the local butchers but the Cheviot sheep have had a marked influence upon the area. The younger McTurk brother returned to Scotland, but the elder stayed on and the present owners are his descendants.

Rachel Chapel purchased this farmhouse in 1856

A beautifully renovated, perfectly fitted out farmhouse. We loved the attention to detail and it created the perfect environment for quality time with good friends. We would highly recommend it and can't wait to visit again. Loved it!

Perfect, spacious, quiet

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to spend a couple of nights at Cnewr, with 10 other friends. The Farmhouse was clean and comfortable with linen to die for. The house is very spacious, and at times you are not aware of anyone being in the house with you at all. If you love walking, fresh air and stunning countryside, Cnewr is a must.

We were almost snowed in, sadly had to go home.

CHRISTMAS AT CNEWR

  • 5 of 5

Firstly, the communications with Rachel were second to none. I would receive a reply within an hour or so and she did all she could to honour my requests. The farmhouse was exactly as pictured. Lots of space for the 15 of us. The place has been recently renovated to a very high standard - beds and sheets VERY comfortable. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and wood for the woodburners plentiful. You will not be cold during your stay. Phone signal none existent but that didn't bother us. The wi-fi was limited at the time we visited but I believe may now have improved? Brecon (10 min drive) has everything you need - supermarkets, cafes, independents shops. We had to move one of the kitchen tables into the dining room for us all to eat together as the dinning table could seat about 10 people. Getting us all out for 9.30am was challenging but it is a big house to turn around for the next guests so understandable. I would not hesitate in recommending Cnewr Farmhouse for a gathering of family or friends. We even had snow!

Cnewr farmhouse is an amazing place for a large group of mixed ages.

  • 5 of 5

Our party was a family and friends get together celebrating a 60th and a 30th Birthday with 1 child and 2 babies. This farmhouse was extremely comfortable both for the number of reception areas to use with a sitting room and dining room large enough for all of us and for the large bedrooms with luxury bedding and pillows. The kitchen was great for communal cooking, fitting us all around the table with plenty of room for the cooks! The kitchen was extremely well equipped with plenty of crockery and cutlery for several meals at once and everything we needed to cook for all of us. The number of bathrooms was excellent and the laundry room amazing as my family came travelling from Canada, Argentina, Spain and France! We loved the location, the local walking and biking. The big hallway with enough space for loads of muddy boots and walking gear was great too We went to the Wales bike park which was amazing, and it was easy to get to the Gower Peninsula for the beach day! The farm kept the little ones amused who loved the cows, sheep and horses. The reservoir sunset was lovely.

We all thoroughly loved our time at Cnewr and would thoroughly recommend it!!
