Eliza's cottage is idyllically situated in Church Street a residential area of Church Stretton. The perfect location allowing you to be a few minutes walk from the High street or the slopes of the Longmynd, through Rectory Field providing many attractive walks from your doorstep. Ideal if you want to arrive by train or do not want to use the car all week.

Eliza's cottage dates back to 1885 when the rector of Church Stretton built the row of five cottages for his coachman and staff. The cottage has be refurbished retaining many of the original features and character.

The mid –terraced, two bedroom cottage offers first class facilities, tastefully furnished to ensure comfortable, homely and immaculate kept accommodation for your stay. The deceptively spacious accommodation is ideal for couples and families.

The Large kitchen/ dining room is fully fitted with light oak county style kitchen with an electric fan oven, gas hob, Microwave and dishwasher.

The circular Table and chairs provide plenty of space to seat for four people comfortably.

From the kitchen leads the utility with Fridge/Freezer and Washing machine. With plenty of storage space. From the utility is the downstairs toilet with wash basin.

The separate lounge has the original fire place and slate with wood burner for cosy winter evenings. Flat screen TV, DVD player etc. Provided for you are the OS maps and walking books, plus information on what to do and see, allowing you to plan the next days walking over the Long Mynd or sight seeing the many National trust properties with in easy reach.

The main bedroom provides a king sized bed with Edwardian Bedroom

furniture, glass mirrored built in wardrobes and looks out over Church Stretton to Helmeth Hill.

The second bedroom has two full sized single beds with light oak bedroom furniture and looks out over the garden and gets the evening sun.

The upstairs bathroom is fully fitted with Thermostatic mixer shower facilities over the bath.

Eliza's cottage has a small garden at the front. The larger garden at the rear is provided with table and chairs to enjoy a relaxing afternoon drink after a days walking or visiting the market town of Luldow, Shrewsbury or Bridgnorth or taking in the gardens at Powis castle which are well worth a visit at any time of year.

Full gas central heating is provided in all rooms and you have full control of the settings.

On road Parking is available at the front of the cottage.

Church Stretton is at heart of the Longmynd’s 5000 acres of Heather covered moorland owned by the National Trust, a designated area of Outstanding Natural beauty. Visitors find themselves relaxed and refreshed by its unspoilt beauty which provides walking from a gentle stroll to strenuous hikes for the serious rambler.

The small town of Church Stretton has something for everybody.

It is the ideal center for exploring Shropshire’s wealth of Historic towns, National trust & English Heritage properties etc

It is a friendly shopping town with a good variety of traditional shops to browse around giving old fashioned personal service with a small street market on Thursdays. Stretton Antiques market (4 floors) could occupy any afternoon.

Church Stretton offers a good selection of traditional shops, tea-rooms and restaurants. Berries tea room is a particular favorite with guests.

You can enjoy playing golf on one of the highest clubs in England on the side of the Long Mynd. The town park allows you to play tennis, mini golf and has a great children's play area and much more. If you are feeling really adventurous you can try Gliding and para-gliding with the Longmynd Gliding Club .

Within 30 minutes traveling we have the world famous Iron Bridge Gorge with 10 fascinating museums to visit. The Engenuity and Blist Hill museums are a favorite for children of all ages.

Bridgnorth is home of the Severn Valley Heritage Steam Railway, plus a funicular railway which links the high and low towns together.

Acton Scott Historic Working Farm (as seen on BBC2 Victorian Farm) . Stokesay Castle the 13th Century fortified manor house and Ludlow Castle are great for Children and adults with the guided tours bringing the castles alive.

The medieval county town of Shrewsbury home of Charles Dawin were you can enjoy a picnic in the quarry, a boat ride on the river and then go to the theatre or cinema in the evening or just enjoy some shopping with all the high street shops at hand as well and visit the towns museums.

The historic market towns of Ludlow, Much Wenlock with English Hertiage- Wenlock Priory, Clun and its castle and Bishops Castle are all very different where you can source the the local food and produce. Wenlock pottery is a great family day out were you can try your hand at throwing a pot and then enjoy a delicious meal afterwards at the pottery.

If you are a member of the National Trust or English Heritage you will be spoilt for choice with Cardingmill Valley in Church Stretton. Attingham park, Dudmaston, Berrington Hall and Powis Castle all within easy reach. Powis Castle has Stunning Gardens which are not to be missed any time of year.

Throughout the summer the local garden scheme runs with different gardens open to the public each weekend. Great for picking up unusual plants and ideas to take home.

Whatever you interest Eliza's cottage is the ideal location as the area has something for everybody within easy reach.

About Wendy Lewis

Adrian and Wendy Lewis have been offering quality self catering accommodation for over 20 years in Church Stretton. We brought Eliza's cottage as a family home with 3 small little girls. The cottage was a delight to refurbish as it still contained a lot of the original features underneath the seventies style. Such as the original doors, the lounge fireplace, kitchen floor and upstairs windows, etc.

After 4 years we had sadly out grown the house Due to the character of the cottage and the perfect location for walking from the door and what Church Stretton and the surrounding area has to offer. We thought Eliza's cottage would be ideal to let out for holiday accommodation.

We moved to Comley, just outside Church Stretton in 2002. So we are only a few minutes away if you have any problems.

We love meeting people from all different walks of life and have made many great friends over the years of offering self catering. Many of guests come back regularly year after year..

The many original features and Charter of the cottage and the lovely kitchen/ dining room are some of the many things I love about Eliza's cottage.

The location allows you to be a few hundred meters walk from the co-op supermarket (Very handy if you run out of milk!), market square or the Bucks head or a few hundred meters walk to rectory field opposite the church and then through Rectory Wood (the blue bells are a must to see in the spring) onto the slopes of the long Mynd.

Lovely cottage in a great location

We only booked two nights but would happily return for a longer stay. Close to the town centre - but away from the traffic etc. Ideal starting point for walking on the local hills or cycling round the area. Strongly recommended.

1) Balance of payment is to be made 28 days before the day of arrival.

2) In the event of cancellation, the deposit is not returnable, and within 42 days of commencement the full cost will be charged.
We will do our best to re-let on your behalf and suggest that you consider Holiday insurance cover.

3) The Proprietor is not responsible for and cannot accept liability for any injury sustained by any person or damage to or loss of any property brought onto the premises.

4) Bookings can be regarded as firm only when the full deposit has been received and written confirmation has been issued.

5) The hirer will take all-reasonable care of the property and its contents and will leave equipment, furnishings, utensils etc in a clean and tidy condition prior to the requested time of departure.

6) The hirer will be responsible for the cost of any breakages or damage incurred with the reimbursement made to Mrs. Lewis before departure.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
