About the property

4 beds, 2 en-suites and master bathroom, sleeps 8/10. Dogs and children welcome

A newly refurbished (with love) barn in a beautiful semi-rural setting in the 'village of Throop'. The Barn was built in the late 1700's/ early 1800's as a malthouse, an outbuilding for the neighbouring Stour View, a late Georgian House built in 1790.

The malthouse was used to make ships biscuits in the latter 1800's and as a shooting range for a local rifle club in the mid 20th century. It was converted into three residential dwellings in the early 1990's.

It has the added bonus of its proximity to Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and the New Forest and is a short drive from the miles of award winning sandy Bournemouth beaches. There is also Castle Point, a very popular shopping centre that is 2 mins drive away and has many of the major shops plus restaurants and coffee shops. However if you require peace and quiet, the most you will hear in this cottage is the happy neigh of the horse in the field opposite (my children have named him Alfie). There is a lovely walk from the front door and fishing can also be arranged. I welcome your dogs (we have 2) and your children, if there is anything I haven't provided (our children are older and we've forgotten) then just shout. I've based this cottage on our many happy stays elsewhere and hope that I've re-created that for you. The Old Barn consists of 4 bedrooms, 2 doubles with en-suites and 2 singles with a master bathroom.

Downstairs there is a large kitchen with range cooker, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, island, sofa, refectory table and a digital radio. There is also a downstairs toilet. The large lounge has ample seating, a woodburner, T.V, DVD player, B&O bluetooth speaker and Amazon Fire Stick. There's also the 'Boot Room' to hang your wet coats and to dry boots where you'll find the tumble dryer. Please don't hesitate to enquire with any request that might make you stay easier.

Parking is available immediately in front of the house and there is also a space to the rear. I can also offer the use of the garage for storage of bikes etc, please enquire.

There is a popular pub a 15 min walk away.

Why Claire Hughes chose Bournemouth

I fell in love with The Old Barn and plan to retire there! It has the best of everything, a rural setting on the edge of 2 towns and The New Forest, its incredibly picturesque, quiet and homely.

What makes this barn unique

The juxta position of it's location, feeling like you're in the heart of the country yet on the edge of 3 towns, New Forest and beaches. We've provided everything you and you children could need, travel cot, moses basket, steriliser, bottle warmer, high chair and if you've brought your pooch, there's dog bowls, dog towels and treats!

Lovely looking, cosy barn house.

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely 3 night stay here. We would definitely come back in the summer time as there is a lovely beach near by. We loved the cosy nights in sitting by the log burner.

Perfect getaway for family and friends

  • 5 of 5

Charming cottage with plenty of space for the eight of us (two families), yet had a warm cosy feel to it too. Nice big kitchen for cooking and eating together and enough seating in the lounge for the evenings too.

The ensuites in the two main bedrooms were nice to have and the children were happy in their rooms as well.

The Christmas trees and welcome bubbly also helped ensure we had a lovely festive break!

Lovely old barn

  • 5 of 5

A group of 6adults, 2 children and 2 dogs, meeting for a reunion.

The old barn was just perfect. Lovely rooms, the kitchen is very sociable and we spent most of our time in there cooking and chatting! The men could disappear off to the front room for a bit of tv watching, whilst the women caught up.

Thank you for a lovely stay :-)

A wonderful property, beautifully decorated and well equipped.

  • 5 of 5

I booked a weekend break here for my parents 50th Wedding Anniversary. There were 7 of us and 2 dogs and there was plenty of space for all of us. The barn is gorgeous throughout and has everything you will need away from home. I would definitely come back and pack lighter next time! The barn's location meant that we could visit Bournemouth's beach and gardens, had an afternoon walking in the country with the dogs and we also managed a trip to the local shopping complex, something for everyone. I would like to come back in the winter so we could use the wood burner!

Lovely property

  • 5 of 5

The Old Barn is a lovely property where we have just enjoyed a happy three-generation week away. It is clean, well-equipped and ideally placed for ready access to local attractions, with shops handily close. I would recommend it highly. it is worth noting there is no garden if you have very small children who need somewhere safe to run around, although there is plenty of indoor space at this attractive property. I would certainly book it again/recommend it. The owner was also very helpful in dealing with a couple of queries I had before booking.

Great place for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

We rented The Old Barn to celebrate my husband's birthday. At the start of the week we had the more mature immediate family and for the second half the younger group, including 3 children. It was an ideal location and central to many attractions. Whilst the twin rooms are more suitable for children as they lack access to ensuite or a shower they are perfectly acceptable as there is a lovely large bath in the main bathroom. The kitchen is wonderful space for preparing food and eating family meals at the large table and the lounge provides comfortable seating for everybody whilst being large enough to allow the young children to run around. This is a real asset as there is limited outside space in which they can play. The house has been beautifully designed and is an ideal family holiday home.
