The Bastide de Bonheur is a luxury villa at Crillon Le Brave in the heart of Provence with 5 bedrooms, 4 bath/shower rooms and 15m x 5m heated swimming pool in the 5000m2 garden which has views of Mont Ventoux.

The villa is situated in a peaceful residential area in grounds of 5000m2. There is parking for several cars in front of the house.

It has been built, equipped and furnished to an exceptionally high standard. There are tiled floors throughout, and walls plastered in soothing pastel colours typical of Provence that reflect the local ochre. There is dual function air-conditioning/heating throughout the main house, making it cool in summer and cosy in the cooler months. There is even a central, bag-less vacuum cleaner system!

The open plan living room has a traditional Provencal-style beam and plaster ceiling and a series of wood-shuttered, arched French windows opening onto the terrace, which runs the length of the house, offering views of the garden and pool.

The dining area is furnished with traditional, limed-oak Provencal-style furniture, including a dining table for 8-10. The lounge area has a dark leather 3-piece suite, large flat screen TV with home cinema system and DVD player with DVD library. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the villa.

The kitchen area is a cook’s dream! It is exceptionally well-equipped with a professional standard Lacanche cooking range with 5 gas burners, griddle, double-size electric fan oven, additional single electric oven, plate-warmer and deep fat fryer. There’s a traditional double porcelain sink, microwave, toaster, kettle, good sharp knives and plenty of other cooking equipment. The separate utility room houses a large American-style double fridge with ice-maker, large upright freezer, washing machine and tumble-dryer. Outside in the covered summer kitchen is a large gas barbecue.

The kitchen also opens onto the terrace where there is a large teak dining table seating 8-10 for alfresco dining in the shade of the vine covered pergola overlooking the pool and garden.

There are 4 bedrooms in the main house, and a 5th bedroom in the pool house. The master bedroom is on the ground floor and has French windows opening onto the terrace, ideal for a peaceful morning cuppa before the rest of the house awakens. It has a large double bed (160 x 200 cms), a dressing room with mahogany storage, and ensuite bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, walk-in shower, twin wash basins and WC.

There are 3 additional bedrooms on the first floor. Bedroom 2 has a large double bed (160x200cms) with wrought iron frame, and an ensuite shower with shower, wash-basin and WC. Bedroom 3 can be made up as a large double bed (160 x 200cms) or twin beds and has a Juliette balcony overlooking the garden and pool. Bedrooom 4 can be made up as a large double (160 x 190cms) or twin beds. Bedrooms 3 & 4 share a family bathroom with bath, walk-in shower, twin basins and separate WC.

The pool house bedroom has a double bed (140 x 190cms). It has large glass doors opening onto the pool terrace, and an ensuite shower with walk-in shower, wash basin and WC. It has an air conditioning unit.

The stunning pool is 15m x 5 m and 1.5m deep. It has an automatic cleaning system and electrically operated safety cover. Pool heating is available at a supplement of €250 per week, but this is rarely required in the summer months. As with all pools, young children should be supervised at all times when the pool is not covered.

It is surrounded by a shingle beach, and grassy areas, equipped with sun loungers and parasols. The garden closest to the house and pool is tastefully planted with palm trees, shrubs and lavender bushes which can be lit up at night to create a magical back drop to languid, moonlit dinners. There are views of Mont Ventoux from the garden and pool.

The lower part of the garden has been left roughly grassed making it the perfect place for impromptu ball games. There is a stream at the bottom of the garden with a steep bank sloping down into the water. The stream is unfenced so you’ll need to keep a close watch on young children if they’re playing in this area.

In the grounds at the front of the house, there are two enormous chestnut trees and parking for several cars. There is also storage for bikes and other equipment.

We are a British couple in our fifties who are keen cyclists. We fell in love with the Mont Ventoux area of Provence 15 years ago and have owned a holiday property here since 2007. We live and work in Sainte Foy Tarentaise in the French Alps where we manage a holiday property rental business.

We especially love the pool, which is long enough for a decent swim as well as being perfect for splashing about and cooling down. The house is built in traditional style to a very high standard, but has all the mod-cons you could wish for. And of course we couldn't resist the view of Mont Ventoux from the pool and garden. We plan to retire here eventually.

The villa is situated in a quiet residential area. There are two restaurants within walking distance: Le Petit Vassol and the Auberge Provencale. The villa is just 2kms from the shops, bars and restaurants of the picturesque hilltop village of Crillon Le Brave. Here you’ll find the Hotel Crillon Le Brave, a Relais & Chateau hotel with its Jérôme Blanchet acclaimed fine-dining restaurant and the Bistro 40k, the Petit Crillon Bistro, the Vieux Four restaurant, the Saint Romain restaurant with small supermarket attached. There is also the Fournil a Crillon bakery. There are additional shops, bars and restaurants at nearby Caromb (4 kms) and Bedoin (5kms).

This is a beautiful area of Provence with lots of pretty villages, lavender fields and vineyards. It’s perfect cycling country with something to suit everyone, from gentle meanders through the quiet lanes to climbing the mythic Giant of Provence, Mont Ventoux. It’s also excellent hiking country with some beautiful walks amongst the vineyards and forests.

There are weekly markets at most of the local villages, of which the Monday morning market at Bedoin is one of the largest. And of course, a visit to Provence would not be complete without a visit to some of local wineries to taste a wine or two.

A popular day out is to Avignon (36km) to visit the Palais des Papes and the Pont d’Avignon (the Pont St Benezet) made famous in the song known all over the world: "Sur le pont d'Avignon on y danse, on y danse...".

The nearest coastal resorts are Cassis and La Ciotat (150 kms) which both have pretty ports and beaches. A visit by boat to the famous “calanques” is not to be missed.

We are easily accessed by road, and indeed, we’d recommend you have a car to make the most of the area. Our nearest airports are Avignon (40 kms), Nimes (95 kms), Marseille (105 kms) and there is a TGV station at Avignon.
