About the property

Owd Peg's Cottage is located in the heart of Bowness, 5 mins walk to the lake.

Owd Peg's is a traditional lake district cottage with a quirky modern interior. It is situated in the heart of Bowness On Windermere, one of the most popular and bustling Lake District towns. The town of Bowness On Windermere has a large variety of restaurants, cafes, pubs, bars and shops to explore. A favourite amongst visitors "The World Of Beatrix Potter" attraction is 1 minute on foot from Owd Peg's. The cottage is a short 5 minute walk from Lake Windermere itself where you can jump on one of the boats to explore the popular nearby town of Ambleside or hire a boat to explore the lake on your own. The central location makes Owd Peg's the perfect base to explore all the Lake District has to offer. The town's oldest pub "Hole In T' Wall" is a 2 minute walk from the cottage, where guests can enjoy good pub food and Cumbrian real ales.

Owd peg's is spread over x 3 floors. The GF consists of an open plan kitchen, lounge dining space with the addition of a log burner in the lounge adding to the cosy feel of the cottage. There are 3 good sized double bedrooms, 2 with ensuite shower rooms. There is also a family bathroom with shower over bath situated on the GF.

Due to it's central location there is no off road parking, however there is a permit for one car at the Rayrigg Rd car park situated 2 mins from the cottage. There is a small courtyard to the rear of the property.

Cosy cottage, central location

  • 5 of 5

Owd Peg's Cottage is well-equipped, clean and comfortable and so close to everything - great pubs, bars, restaurants, the lake and the not-to-be-missed walk up to Brant Fell above the Bustle. And "bustle" it is! It was our first visit and we were surprised at how busy it is. There's so much to do (and so many pubs!!) that we loved being in the thick of it in such a lovely cottage.

Lovely property in a great location

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location, in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere and within walking distance to everything we needed. The house is lovely with spacious double bedrooms. The stairs to the loft conversion may be a bit tricky for people with reduced mobility. I would return in a heartbeat!

Great centrally located cottage full of character.

  • 4 of 5

Stayed here for a week over NYE. The cottage could not be better located in the center of Bowness with its numerous pubs and restaurants. A very welcome gift package was a lovely touch and Helen was a delight to deal with throughout the booking process.

Lovely cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a lovely week in Bowness. The cottage is ideally situated right in the middle of the village. A charming home from home with everything you need for a holiday in the lakes. Three good sized bedrooms with two being ensuite with good powerful showers. The central heating was perfect to keep the cottage cosy. The service from the owner was efficient, friendly and helpful. We holiday every year at this time in the lakes and would definitely return. Bowness offers some good restaurants and pubs with good pub food such as the Albert straight across the road .

Location Top Marks, Handy Parking Permit, Finishing touches could have been better.

  • 4 of 5

Fantastic location, in the middle of town, a little noisy at night but nothing disturbing. Parking permit is handy as it works for a lot of the local town car parks - we didn't have to pay once for parking in local towns. The accommodation is lovely, a little tired around the edges but lovely none the less. I have some negative points though, considering the price (which I'm guessing is so much because of the location) some extras could have been added to take it up a level. I have paid much less for a week away before to stunning cottages and have always had little extras like a basket of logs, quality soap in all bathrooms, a small welcome pack (local biscuits / milk), flowers on the table, even dog treats/food for the dog in a couple of places. Bulbs where missing in some lamps. Lipstick on one pillow case. The downstairs bathroom could do with double glazing - too cold to be usable. The heating controls were really confusing; you try to turn up the temp and it tells you it will get to that in 2 hours or more? The back door mat gets in the way - you can't open the door with it there and the bin gets in the way as well. Having no end to the tiny patio/garden, with steep steps (not good for an old dog) was a bit of a worry when letting the dog out as she was going down to the (neighbours) driveway to do her business and could have gone out to the road from there. Kitchen is very compact, OK for making a drink / toast / microwaving but don't plan on making a proper meal (your surrounded by restaurants / pubs/ chippies so OK) . Coffee filter needs renewing (no handle and does not filter) and fresh coffee should be in the fridge not left open in a cupboard.

In summary, lovely location, nice cottage but we felt it was over priced (Over £1k for a week in Oct half term). Little extras would give a more polished experience. We will return to the area but not the cottage.
