Overview

About the property

Quaint cottage, 2 bedrooms (sleeps 3), swimming pool, beautiful valley views

An old hayloft and stable have been sympathetically renovated to a very high standard to create this delightful two bedroom cottage or gite. The accommodation will be found over three floors.

The modern and well equipped kitchen has all you need for your stay including a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge with a freezer compartment, electric oven, gas hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine.

The cosy lounge has a flat screen TV and DVD showing English satellite channels with WiFi also available. The lounge also accommodates a table and chairs for dining.

The spacious main bedroom on the first floor has a king size bed and plenty of storage space for clothes.

Adjoining the main bedroom is a luxurious bathroom with a shower enclosure, full-sized bath, two hand basins, toilet and heated towel rail.

Stairs from the main bedroom lead up to an attic bedroom with a double bed. The bedroom shares the same bathroom as the main bedroom.

The floor layout of the Hayloft and the use of terracing  and steps in the garden mean that the cottage may not be suitable for very young children or the elderly or infirm.

Outside there is your own private garden space which includes sun loungers and an outside seating area with a gas barbecue for those al fresco meals. New for 2017, a swimming pool with a lounging area and stunning, panoramic views is available for your use. The pool is shared with the owners.

The rental price includes all hand and bath towels, bed linen, kitchen towels, heating, electricity and gas. central heating is available in all room for those cooler times if visiting out of the main season. Swimming and beach towels are not provided.

Wonderful spot!

  • 5 of 5

The Hayloft was a terrific find for us! The photos and descriptions given on HomeAway are completely accurate but cannot describe the peace and tranquility we found there. The cottage is decorated and equipped with great care and pride and lacks for nothing. A comfortable bed, lots of towels, a well furnished kitchen. And everything was remarkably clean!

We truly enjoyed the stunning views of the valley and the absence of noise except for the singing of the birds. We found many walks and interesting villages and towns to explore in the nearby area. We know there is much more to see and do and will definitely have to return.

Thanks for everything, Brian and Glynis.

peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Friendly owners, very helpful. Lovely countryside. Gite is tastefully furnished, surprisingly spacious, swimming pool much enjoyed. Garden has stunning views to eat your meals in. We explored the surrounding area, picturesque villages, and Conques was exceptionally interesting and atmospheric. We hope to come again.

Super gite in super location

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Brian and Glynis for creating such a delightful and welcoming gite including the spacious bathroom and extra comfy bed.

A beautiful pool gives views over the Lot valley with green wooded slopes as far as the eye can see. The shaded hammock, which catches the breeze, provides a cool place for reading or an afternoon snooze before the next swim.

Plenty of local walks for all levels abound with many pretty villages and towns to explore in this area.

Brian is a gracious host always ready to help without being intrusive.

Many thanks

Catherine and Mark Clark

Hayloft in Vieillevie

  • 5 of 5

Tremendous cottage, well equipped and very comfortable, excellent wi-fi and smart tv with sky box. Fantastic views out front due to it's elevated position above the village. The position and view from the swimming pool is also amazing. There is peace and tranquility in abundance here, we really enjoyed staying for a fortnight at the end of June 2017.

Lovely Location

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable accommodation, clean with all necessary items needed for a enjoyable holiday.

Brian and Glynis helpful yet discreet especially when using lovely pool.

The Hayloft was extremely appreciated for its coolness during the heat of June.

Would highly recommend for a relaxing holiday and sightseeing in the Lot Valley.

Finally, should we return to this area of France would definitely be in contact with the owners

Markets

It wouldn't be France if there wasnt a market on somewhere. Locally, there are excellent markets in Maurs (Thursday), Decazeville (Friday), Rodez and Figeac (Saturday) and Marcillac (Sunday). Further afield there are very good markets to be found in Villefranche-de-Rouergue (Thursday) and Sarlat-la-Caneda (Saturday).

Wining and Dining

Eating out is one of life's great pleasures. Vieillevie has an excellent restaurant. Slightly further afield there are very good establishments in Entraygues, Montsalvy, St. Cyprien-sur-Dourdou, Marcoles and Mourjou.

Sports and Leisure

Fishing, canoeing and paddle boarding are available on the river. Licenses for fishing are available from the village shop. Canoeing and paddle boarding are run from centres in Entraygues and another in Le Port, close to Vieillevie. A few miles downstream from Vieillevie a company offers boat cruises, with and without lunch, a pleasant way to while away a few hours and see the river from its best vantage point.

There are plenty of good walks within minutes of the Hayloft. The Monts de Cantal and the Aubrac provide excellent walking opportunities for those that may want something a little more challenging. Both areas also provide downhill and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter months. Out of the winter season a challenging Go-Ape style tree adventure can be found in the mountain resort of Super Lioran

There are two horse-riding centres a short drive away. Golf is also available in Aurillac and Rodez, both a 45 minute drive away.

Places of Interest

Le Fel - a mere 15 minutes drive up the valley is the small community of Le Fel. This village not only offers unparalleled views but also visits to a number of small-scale bio wine producers. Nearby is the Poterie du Don, a ceramics gallery and boutique presenting the works of renowned artists and potters from around the world.

Conques - only 20 minutes away by car is one of the premier Plus Beaux Villages de France, Conques is a must see for any visitor. It was an important stopping place for pilgrims en route to St. Jacques de Compostella and today it is a European Centre for Art and Medieval Civilisation.

Figeac - less than an hour by car will take you to this beautiful medieval trading town. Here you will find a jumble of narrow streets and alleys with ancient timber-framed houses fronting on to them. Figeac is also the birthplace of Champollion who first deciphered Egyptian hieroglyphics with its associations with the Rosetta Stone. A museum celebrates his life and work.

Rodez - only 45 minutes away by car is the large town of Rodez, the ancient county town of the département of Aveyron built around the cathedral Notre Dame, a Gothic master piece that dominates the town and its surroundings from the top of its 87 metre bell tower.

Other notable places of interest include Espalion, Estaing, Marcoles, Rocamadour, Cordes-sur-Ciel, St Cirq-Lapopie and Belcastel.

If historical sites and natural scenic beauty get too much then a visit to the Viaduc du Millau, less than two hours drive away, is a must. Millau viaduct holds the world record for the tallest bridge, culminating at 343 metres (higher than the Eiffel tower), 2460 metres long and touching the bottom of the Tarn valley in only 9 places.
