Overview

About the property

6 bedroom, 5 bathroom house located in sailing country just above Loe beach

This comfortable, stylish house sleeps 12 in 4 double and 2 twin bedrooms with ample room for relaxing and entertaining. Built in 1897 and used as the parish vicarage until 2010, the house and garden have undergone a major programme of renovation to bring it up to the standards required for year round comfortable living. We have created a very large kitchen and dining room, with an Everhot electric range, from three smaller rooms. this room, like the three other downstairs living rooms, has a wood burning stove. There are five new bathrooms supplied by two large hot water tanks. The tanks have never yet run cold, even when we had a very full house for our son's wedding.

We added a conservatory on the east side of the house in order to better enjoy the views of Pill Creek. We think you would be hard pressed to tell this conservatory was not original to the Victorian house.

The main rooms of the Old Vicarage all face south and the windows are large. When the sun shines - and since we moved into the house it feels as if the shone has shone almost every day - sunglasses worn inside the house don't seem inappropriate.

We often use this house for entertaining so it is very generously equipped with china, cutlery, glasses and corkscrews. The Everhot range cooker will be left ready for action and is not difficult to use but comes supplied with a manual in case of need. There is also a microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer. A downstairs shower room is convenient for hosing down after a day on the water.

Our days in Feock are usually spent outdoors but for indoor days we have a television with BT Vision and are lucky enough to enjoy superfast broadband at the house. There is a selection of boardgames available as well as a table tennis table. The large areas of flat lawn are ideal for badminton and boules. Nets and racquets are left in the porch.

Our dog enjoys her time in Feock but we would caution against bringing anything other than very well behaved dogs to the house. The newly planted hedges on the boundary are not dog-proof, nor is the ha-ha which separates the garden from our farmer neighbour's livestock.

We provide bed linen and towels for the house but ask you to bring your own beach towels please.

Our housekeeper will make everything ready for you and is available in case of a real emergency.

About Robin and Mary Allan

We bought the Vicarage from the Diocese of Truro whilst we were still living overseas. To us it is the perfect country house. The air is fresh, the surrounding countryside is beautiful and the sea is on our doorstep. When the happy day comes that we are able to retire from work we intend to spend most of our time at the Old Vicarage. In the meantime we would like other people to enjoy all that the house has to offer.

Robin and Mary Allan purchased this house in 2012

Why Robin and Mary Allan chose Feock

This is the perfect house to enjoy delightful family holidays messing about in boats, crabbing, fishing, picnicking, cycling and walking. Loe Beach, with its beach cafe and water sports centre is a few hundred yards from the house. Dinghies, sea kayaks, paddle boards and small motor boats are available to hire. Take a boat to an inaccessible beach for a picnic. The renowned Pandora Inn is a short distance by water. You can tie up at the pontoon and stay for lunch or an early supper but be sure to check the tides or you may be there for longer you intended.

The National Trust property, Trellisick is on the edge of Feock. The famously mild Cornish climate means that there is always something of interest to see in the garden. The walks from Trellisick to its pretty beach and along the creek are lovely at all times of the year.

There are many other fabulous gardens in the area, both National Trust and private.

The King Harry chain link ferry runs from Feock to the Roseland peninsula. The sandy beach of Porthcurnick makes for a great outing. The excellent Hidden Hut cafe is just above the beach. From time to time they host very popular Feast Nights. St Mawes has many excellent restaurants for a special evening out.

Despite being idyllically rural Feock is not remote. It is less than 5 miles from Truro with its mainline station. Truro is a pleasant County Town with many independent shops and restaurants as well as the usual supermarkets and department stores.

Falmouth, 10 miles west of Feock is another interesting town. The influx of students to this already bustling port has encouraged a flourishing of interesting bars, music venues and restaurants.

We leave information on local attractions in the house to help you enjoy your holiday in this lovely part of the country.

Mark and Hayley coped extremely well with a bunch of old folk. Loved it so much have re booked for next year. ( sorry Mark, under different name in case we're barred).

Owner's Response: Looking forward to seeing you next year. Mary, Robin, Hayley and Mark PS I think if you were younger folk you would call the condition of the house 'Box Fresh'!

Beautiful building which is furnished to a high standard: a home not a holiday let.

A superb property, ideal location, want to go back.

  • 5 of 5

We were welcomed with a cream tea by Hayley and Mark who also showed us round the property on arrival. The property is large, very well equipped, excellent location with views over a creek, a river and a church. Our grandchildren enjoyed the spacious gardens. All the family are looking forward to a return visit. May I suggest you include the Play Station games console on the amenities list.

Everything I hoped it would be for a family holiday to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary

  • 5 of 5

The Old Vicarage was the perfect location to celebrate our golden wedding with all the family. Son and daughter with spouses and 3 granddaughters aged 4, 11 and 14.

Haley and Mark were there as promised to introduce us to the house. Everything was spotless, and a lovely cream tea very welcome.

The weather could have been better, but that is not controllable by us. However, the girls were able to go surfing, kyacking ( on Pill creek), and really appreciated having their own space in the house - we adults did too!

Thank you to Mary and Robin for giving us the opportunity to stay in your beautiful house. We gathered skeletonise magnolia grandiflora leaves that we found in the garden, which the older 2 girls will help me spray, and do other "arty" things with when they come to stay with us later in the month.

Falmouth Maritime museum and The Eden Project were a real hit with the youngest, along with her parents.(We had visited both before)

We were all very sad it had to come to an end today.

A big thank you for making it possible.

A real gem

  • 5 of 5

We spent a fantastic week in Cornwall - The Old Vicarage has been the perfect base for various day trips, but also a fantastic place to just relax. The property is located in a very picturesque hamlet and is surrounded by the most beautiful landscape. Truro is a 15min drive and great for shopping and groceries, many attractions i.e. Lizard peninsula, Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Ives and Penzance are within easy reach. We were lucky with the weather and could make use of the garden, we used the space next to conservatory for a couple of BBQs.

We were a party of 5 couples, 1 small child and a dog and struggled to find a property which catered for all our needs, particularly for a sufficient number of bathrooms. The Old Vicarage was just perfect, most of the 5 bathrooms were either en-suite or next door to one of the spacious bedrooms and could be turned into an en-suite one. All bedrooms offered great views over the surrounding area.

The house is beautifully decorated and well kitted out, it has plenty of space so you can withdraw for peace and quiet.

If one could find any fault at all...the stove takes some time to adjust to a temperature change and the internet connection can be a bit fickle.

Thanks again to caretaker Hayley and Mark for a warm welcome and a prompt attention to a minor problem.

We will be back.

Beautiful house in an idyllic spot on the Fal

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week staying at the Old Vicarage celebrating a big family get together. Communication with Mary in the weeks leading up to our stay was first class, as was the welcome we received from Hayley and Mark at the start of our stay. Nothing was too much trouble and we really do appreciate all the help and assistance in making our stay so enjoyable, the whole family will remember it for years to come. The Vicarage is a wonderful place to spend some time, beautifully renovated and well equipped with everything you need. The location is great because you are only a short walk away from Loe Beach where you can hire sail boats and kayaks to explore the estuary. also Pills Creek is just a few minutes from the house which is a fantastic swimming spot at high tide. Plenty to do from the house and little need for the car! Highly recommended and would love to come back again some time in the future. Great for a big family gathering!
